Played Sat 10/9 and it pays to get out early. We were a twosome second group out behind another twosome. Never saw the group behind us except when we were putting out on 14 and they were getting to the 12th tee. Played in a little less than 3.5 hours.

Greens were good, except for the twosome in front of us not repairing their ball marks. They were rolling fairly fast and true. Fairways were soggy is places, a little shaggy but the ball sat up nicely. Tee boxes were definitely shaggy but it was easy to find a spot that was a little thinner.

Paid full rack rate but it was worth it taking into consideration the greens and pace of play. Will be back again soon.

Summerly is one of my favorite places to play so I was a bit surprised at the negative reviews it had been getting recently. I emailed the GM the day before my round and asked him about conditions. His reply was that they just had a 3 day mini tour tournament there and that conditions were good. When we checked in, we were told the greens had been double rolled and were in great shape running about a 10. The first thing you notice is that the grass is dormant, not a big deal. It's just that time of year. The positive is that well struck tee shots will roll forever. Greens were very nice which is most important to me. Bunkers were thin as were the fairways and rough, again, dormant conditions. If you are looking for lush conditions, Summerly is not it right now. However, I would strongly disagree that it is in terrible condition.

Played at 7am Sunday 2/7. Rustic is in terrific shape. The greens are running smoothly and although they look "thick" to the eye, they are running very fast. If you are above the hole, forget about it. Fairways are also in great shape and are providing plenty of roll on well struck drives. Although a tough course due to the greens/aprons, the fairways are generally pretty generous and there are not too many holes with forced carry, with the exception of #14, which is a bear! I think Rustic is one of the nicer public courses in the LA area and look forward to playing there again soon.

Played Sunday 1/24. Booked a 540am tee time online. Thought it was strange as it doesn't really get light enough to tee off until 630am. Read online that they had "lights" on the first 3 holes to give some visibility. When we asked the starter, he told us that the "lights" should be "on". They weren't. However, we were still asked to tee off at 540am. We held up my buddies phone with a light so we could see. Played the entire first hole in the dark. On the second hole, we waited for 30 minutes until sunrise. Once the sun came up, we could see that there were HUGE puddles or little LAKES on almost every fairway! My playing partner lost 3 balls due driving in the middle of the fairway, into the standing water. 6 of the 7 fairways on the front were flooded and 4 of 7 on the back. I can understand flooding due to our recent rains, however, why wouldn't the starter mention it?

Played Sunday morning 11/1/09. We were the second group out, playing behind a Summerly employee and friends. It seems silly that a 3 some walking (us) would have to wait on every single hole...tee box and fairway, for the entire round! The only separation that occured was when they skipped the green on 7 but we caught them on the 8th green. They turned what should have been a very enjoyable and fast round, into a slow, plodding, aggravating experience, for everyone behind them. However, it does not reflect negatively on the course itself. Greens were immaculate and fast, fairways were tight and also a lot of run. Tee boxes were also well groomed. Will go back but will be the first group out next time!

Have not played Whittier in some time, used to be on the regular rotation. However, was always difficult to get a weekend morning tee time and played very slow. Walked on as a single 10/28. First 4 holes were splendid and fast but hit the proverbial wall, a 3 some, which I joined, a 4 some, 4 some and 5 some. The problem was they were your typical Korean golfers, which means, slow. I can say that because I am also Korean! Tee boxes were sanded a little while ago with all the tee markers moved up. Fairways were the same, thin, plenty of roll and the greens were average. All in all, a fun place to gain confidence.
