Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played today, nice cool morning. Was hesitant from reading the last the review but drive by the course everyday and did not look as bad so gave it shot. Glad I did. Place is in good shape. Greens top the list. Rolling smooth at medium speed. Fairways spotty but plenty of green patches and cushion to hit off some dormant grass. Rough same of the fairways but more dormant. Tee boxes mostly level. Sand traps firm. Found a discounted rate on their website. Was worth it to me.
Played Angeles National last week. Greens rolled smooth and fast yet very firm. Fairways and rough were brown, dormant and thin. My tee shots were off and paid the price. Not a forgiving course to say the least. Miss a fairway and your ball is in the surrounding desert like brush terrain...don't bother trying to find it. Interesting yet flat layout. I paid $70 and thought that was too much given the poor conditions of the fairways and rough. Probably worth $70 in the Spring. Pace of Play was good at 4hrs.
Fun day to be out on Westlake yesterday. Beautiful weather. Greens are completely healed from last months aeration and rolling smooth. It’s a great course for working on your irons. Hole 6 is bear long par 5 although so you’ll need the driver for that. Flat layout easy to walk. Pace of play was 3 ½ hours. Nice proshop and driving range. They could use a better practice chipping area although. It is too close to the 8th green. Felt like someone could have thinned a wedge into me. I’ll be back for more.

Got an e-mail from Sandpiper yesterday to play w/cart for $90 – what a steal. All you have to do is book a tee time on their website using the promotion code: “socalgolfspecial”. This is a beautiful course. Views are incredible of the ocean on holes 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13 ,14. Greens are FAST and FIRM. The whole course was in great shape. The drive up from the TO was not bad. It took just under an hour. I’ll be back for the next special.
I recently moved down from Sacramento. I've been driving by this course everyday from the 101 freeway. Never thought to play it because it looked so executive-non-challenging. Gave it a try this weekend. Must say I was impressed. Good shape. Played in under 4 hours. Tight fairways to hit. Lots of water to carry. Surprising difficult greens to putt. I thought the folks in the proshop were courteous. Looks like the greens will be punched next week. When they heal I will be back.
