I take a summer vacation in the area every summer and finally brought the sacred sticks. Played here on Monday, Aug. 6th, it was much cooler than the last couple days, it can get quite hot in this area. I think this is a close to Texas hill country golf as it gets (except with much cooler nights). I LOVE THIS COURSE!! Great design and layout. Not that expensive either. I did my research for area courses and was greatly rewarded. I suggest trying to play a early round so you can sample some of the best Cali wine in the country, UH, ITS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!!!!!, and down the street, etc., etc. Anyway, getting carried away here, back to the course. If your round is later in the day it will get windy, so bring your knockdown shots. This course will use every club and shot in the bag. Great variety of hole lengths and doglegs. Buy a yardage book if its your first time, you'll need it. This course can be a little tricky, some semi-blind landing areas if your long. Overall worth every penny. Also a unique and beautiful clubhouse and restaurant which serves GREAT food......Put this course on your central coast GC rota.

I take a vacation in the area every summer and FINALLY brought the sacred sticks. It was overcast and foggy so no killer views of the bay and the rock, bit still had a GREAT time. Very fun course, and in very decent shape considering how many rounds get played here. Will make this a regular course on the central coast rota. I even spied a very cool jacket in the Pro shop, its summer and I didnt need it. After getting home I decided that I did want it and would purchase it on the way out of town. I brought the jacket up to the register to purchase it and it had no pricetag. The starter thought he pulled the correct info up on the register and quoted me the price. Upon further review, he realized he made a mistake and quoted me a new much higher price. Without asking, he gave me a hefty discount for the mixup, THANKS. Just because of THAT I will be back, yet alone because of the great track...

I played there about 6 months ago, after having not played there in a quite awhile. I regarded this course as one of the absolute best I have ever played at the time. Such a great variety of holes with each a unique personality. Challenging yes, fun, a big yes and the variety of shots and clubs used, wow. But I must say I was SOOO dissapointed in the fact houses had been slapped up since the last time I played. I understand the reason, and the profit involved, but I feel that the layout has ruined the course. In look, in noise factor, and the way some holes played because of the wind has been changed from its original unprotected design. I feel a great layout has been tarnished. Couldnt the builders have not built homes so close to tee boxes? I really dont like to hear phone conversations while Im teeing it up. So Sad, I play ONE more time for a final review.......

This is now my home course, but I cant practice here, that is a big bummer for me. I live up in the hills and have only ranges that are uphill designs or are :30 min' away. This is a challenging, mature track though, and you better have a accurate long game or you will be doing your best impersonation of Seve. I just started playing here regularly and a employee called me by name, how refreshing I'm a human and not a walking paid green fee. This course has a downhome feel that I have only experienced a few times in my life, I think its because of the rural area. Eveyone is laid back and NICE.... Now to find a good practice area with a range.

I recently moved to the area and was in search of a "Home" course, and I had only played this course once before, years back. I was very pleasantly suprised as to what I rediscovered. It seems a little longer, did they lengthen this course a little? Greens were in pretty good shape, but you better know the grain. Course maintenance is a must, and some local knowledge sure helps, some swirly breezes can really effect your club selection. There are some very good risk reward holes, overall a very good mix of unique holes. The service is great, as is the restaurant and bar. I do see some backup on busier days as I drive by frequently, but I play on Mon./Tues. and have had no problems worth mentioning. Considering what I read in other EARLIER reviews I would advise giving this course another chance. It can be very challenging and overall is a good value for such a mature track.

Once there, I noticed only ONE guy in the pro shop helping everybody. He was stressed to say the least, and I couldnt believe no one was around to assist him, considering it was Saturday and beautiful outside. We were a twosome, and he had trouble splitting the fees, dog's and drink correctly. There were no buns for the dog's. We had to wait for him to go get some AFTER he alone helped desk customers. I guess they also use the honor system on purchasing dog's because a young foursome came in and helped themselves while we were waiting. When we finally got to the first tee, we got pushed back because of the food fiasco. No names were called as to who was up first or given in the pro shop. The front nine was a dissapointment. The greens were hard and fast, but, MANY ballmarks.... I dont think anyone cares about fixing ballmarks here, the players or marshall's. I must say the back nine was in very good shape, as it is more protected from the elements compared to the very exposed front nine. The foursome that was ahead of us bullied there way past a teen twosome that were walking, so we teamed up. Everything was stacked up so I didnt understand that mentality. Overall a mixed bag of good n bad and thus I wont be back for awhile, I'll spend my $ over at Castke Creek for local
golf.
