Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Every time I play here I wonder why I don't play it more. Well worth the drive, great course in great condition, even during the hot summer months. Played on August 4th and the service was great.
Only area of concern was the speed of the greens (likely grown out to combat the heat) and the lack of sand in the bunkers. Hopefully they'll fix that soon. And if you can stay out of the traps, you won't have to deal with that.
Already trying to plan another trip to Primm to play.

Played on August 4th at 10 a.m. which is twilight during the summer for $35. Great layout if you can stand the heat. There was an issue with pace of play and the course responded immediately by letting us reroute and sending someone to deal with the slow group.
I could play this course a lot, the only negatives being the somewhat slow speed of the greens (I'm guessing the heat has a lot to do with that) and the lack of sand in the bunkers. It seems like that should be easy to fix.
The bottom line is if you have the chance to play this course, do it. If you're choosing between Desert and Lakes, it's mostly personal preference, but the desert course is the harder course, the Lakes is more traditional (and prettier unless you like that rugged look).

This is a great golf course. It's an old school layout with no 2 holes alike, a much underrated factor if you ask me. It has a good mix of long and short par 4s and 5s and the par 3s are tough. The course is maintained well and the pace of play is great. It's not the most difficult course in the city, but it is a very fun course to play.
Got a good golfnow locals rate and came out to play early (6:30) on a Thursday. Saw only 1 other group during the round and really enjoyed the course. The course is set up well for quick play with generous landing areas and spaces for bail-outs and common misses. That also means the course is not too difficult; however, if the wind kicks up, like it did for us, it can mean a 3-5 club adjustment. The course condition was fantastic; lush fairways and rough and good looking greens. All in all, a very user-friendly experience and fun to play, but don't come expecting a tough course.
Nice, very comfortable layout, but only a few great holes; condition was fantastic; although the course is fairly close to the freeway, only 2 holes feel like you're close to anything other than the beautiful course; not an overwhelming design, very playable. I enjoyed it and will be back, but for me it's a good course, just not a great one.
What do you say about RSJ--all you need to know is that it's an American Golf course. I got there early and was the first off. Made the turn in playing alone in about 90 minutes. Joined another walking single and got stuck behind a two-some in a cart and played the last 9 in just about 2 hours. The fairways and rough are somewhat indistinguishable and look like a patchwork of green. The hot weather has not yet hit, but there were quite a few burned areas and the crew was working hard to save other areas. This resulted in several overly wet lies. Sand traps were consistent and OK. A few greens were still sanded for aerification recovery, but I usually think the greens save the rest of the course. This time, however, the greens were painfully slow. Overall, it's a get what you pay for course if you play early on weekdays and a get less than you pay for course at any other time.
One last thing I should mention--the greens were in excellent condition and were extremely difficult. Again, a great course.
First time playing here (January 24) and I was surprised at the number of mixed reviews I had heard and read about the course. I thought the course was great. From the backs its listed at 6,600 yards, but it plays much longer because of well placed hazards and doglegs. I can't think of any two holes that even seemed similar. The front 9 is brutal (made harder by the fact that we and our clubs were soaking wet) and the back 9 plays quite a bit easier. A challenging, fun course in very good condition (although due to the rain there was a fair amount of casual water; I have to believe that is unusual). My 4-some agreed on the 18th that all of us wanted the round to keep going and several commented that they liked the course as much as or better than Pelican Hill. Biggest drawback of the course is the lack of a driving range (they do have nets to hit into).
Played MLK day for weekday rates!! The course was certainly not stellar, but it was adequate. It's not lush, but the high point is the greens, which were smooth and fair. Walked the course in about 4 hours. Unlike the Players' course, the Classic has a nice traditional look and feel, but no trademark or exceptional holes. However, this is one of the few cheap rounds of golf left in Orange County and I have no problems with the fairly vanilla layout all things considered.
Played Super Twilight on August 7. The front side has a great fairly classic layout and has some well laid out holes with plenty of space for wayward shots (if you miss on the right side). The back side is a ledge/valley layout, the first 4 holes are on top of a ridge and the last 5 play back through the gulley. Although some of the shots are visually intimidating, the back is considerably easier than the front as long as you can drive it straight (length not important). Course conditions were OK. Several fairways had damage from being too soft (severe lawn mower tracks) and the greens were VERY hard. More than that, be prepared to underclub into the greens because incoming shots will skip and don't grab the greens. Getting up and down is a challenge and unlike most SoCal courses, plan to land pitches short of the green/in the rough because everything will release a long way. All in all, an average course with average conditions for an average price, but I wouldn't pay full price.
First time playing and I really enjoyed the course. Course played tough from the back tees, but good shots were rewarded. Back 9 is hard to play the first time through. A few blind shots and carries that are difficult to gauge (no carry yardages given). Twilight time price was fair and we finished easily with one of the first twilight times (played in late June). GPS system is basic, but helpful.
Classic Troon service. This was my second trip here and the key piece of advice that I can give is make sure to check on the condition of the course before you visit. I played today and the course was in great condition, second only to the incredible service we received. I played last August and the course was sopping wet and dying. Besides a few gimmick holes, the track is nice and very enjoyable to play. If the wind picks up, some of the uphill holes can play long.
