I just played this course w/ one of their "e-mail specials" for 65 bucks.(found out about it when I stumbled across a new website called fastputt.com and they got a great discount area that I never even knew existed. great deals to be found there. extremely informative. so i signed up and bam Anyways, Talega was pretty good. A great value at 65- and I must say that I wish I lived closer. The fairways, rough, sand traps, were all in good condition. Some greens were pretty tough but I know better now. My poor father-in-law couldn't hit over the wall of giant trees off the white tees on the 15th hole...(3 times) -180 yd.blind forced carry....I felt bad for him. Anyways, other than that-and the part of no GPS til Fall? Yardage was a slight pain but in the end we had a great day. I would play here anytime!

Played 5/13/06....I must say that their customer service is getting better.....it was quite good......as far as speed of play...forgettaboudit!!! I know it's a Saturday and all but 5 2/3 hours is sick!! (The marshall gets a "D" minus for that) Usually play here isn't too bad....I guess the trick is to play only during the week....Anyways, the tee boxes, fairways were very nice......i actually love the greens here (even though a lot of people I play with don't like them as much because of all the 3 putts!!!) There is a lot of up and down elevation here-especially on the downhill sloping fairways.....calculate your yardage AND THEN take a club LESS than you think.....which makes your approach shot really tricky.....You must be below the hole on a lot of holes....if you are not, you will often pay the price of being in some nasty rough or downhill lie trying to chip back onto a sloping green with some insane cup placement.......and then chip over and back and 3 putt cursing the course!! ....heh......i love it!!! (except this course should have strict rules to whom can play the blue tees here.....ONLY 15 HANDICAPS OR LESS PLEASE!!! All others need to play the whites.....Trust me, it is plenty hard enough from there too!!)

Played 5/17/06....First of all....I must congratulate the greenskeeper there!! The course is in its best shape in years!! Finally, they have taken the proper steps in caring for this course....I was very pleased with the maintenance from tee to green.....(over the last 18 months this nice course was like dog sh*t conditions) Anyways, with the red-dot book- this course was a great value -40 bucks!! If you have never played here it can be compared to the Trilogy @ Glen Ivey course....not quite as nice of a layout but hardly any houses......conditions are as nice but I must say that Eagle Glen's greens are better now!!! Trilogy has a problem with keeping there greens nice which is a shame....Anyways, Eagle Glen has finally re-gained it's potential as a great "Troon" golfing experience. (It's about time)

Played 5/22/06...I was pleasantly surprised at the nice conditions here. I haven't played here in a year but I must say that for 21 bucks w/ red-dot book it was an unbeatable bargain. The fairways were pretty nice.....at times even lush.....greens were large and smooth.....not extremely hard but fair.....we even went over to the butterfield side to play an extra "9" and it was nice over there as well! We lucked out because it was the only day of the week that there was rain-which totally chased the flies away and neutralized the cow smell....A great bargain overall...worth every penny.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that they have crappy yardage markers......since they NO LONGER HAVE GPS here......other than the 100, 150, 200....markers the sprinkler head yardage is scarce......being that this course is built on the side of a mountain.......thus the HILLS.......yardage can be guessing at times....

The course is playing at its best condition in years....Finally, they are taking care of this quality course....The fairways were pretty good...tee boxes decent.....rough was light....which is nice to compensate the O.B..........the sand traps have just enough sand to play out of, however, they are starting to get thin.......We had a great day today playing at 9:30am on a Thursday. It took 4 1/2 hours......a little slow, but bearable. The only complaint I guess we had was that although the marshall was present, it did not seem like he pushed the groups ahead at all.....and if they cut the greens a little tighter/faster they would elevate this course to a top-notch facility/course!!!! Overall.....a solid "7.5"

Just played this course for the first time, Sunday 9-4-05 at 2:18 tee off. Barely finished in the dark at 8:00P!!! However, that being said- if you can stand an unbearably absolute rediculous slow round, it is worth every penny. I thought it was in great condition. The greens were awesome!! Smooooth, perfect with no divots/ball marks at all. By far, the best city run course I have ever played. The course is challenging but fun at the same time. There are also some pretty nice and wide fairways with some holes having some character to boot.

Played 7/17/05. Had a great day. Walked on with my father-in-law at 11A on a Sunday, no problem. We played through 2 groups and finished in 4 hours!! A fun up and down layout. A great bargain for it being a "muni". The course has the potential to be a great course if it was in little bit better condition but the greens were nice so that counts for a lot. Fairways marginal, sand marginal, rough is pretty weedy, but overall just because of the nice greens, interesting, fun layout and the great bargain price of 29.00 you can't go wrong if you're on a budget. ( This course has similar potential to Mountain Meadows. Because of the layout---if only someone would dump a few million into it and fix it up right. These two courses would go from being 6.5's to 8.5's.

Played 7/27/05 at 10:30A. Let me just say first off that it was a 5 hr. 20 minute round. Disgustingly slow. If you want to play this course at a 4 hr. pace you gotta play before 7:45A. Otherwise forgetta about it. I do however love the layout. Exceptional fun, layout. Tricky and interesting enough with lots of elevation changes to keep you guessing. Greens were pretty good, fairways as well. I do think this course should be rated higher at a 7.2 or so. (Probably because of weak customer service, WORTHLESS MARSHALLS WHO DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SPEED UP PLAY, however don't get me wrong, they were nice enough , just worthless in their duty to run an efficient pace of play. ) I think this course has the next best layout next to Coyote Hills, which I love. Overall, I recommend this course- just be sure to play EARLY or else don't b*tch about the slow play.

Where do I start? Absolutely the toughestcourse I have ever played and I have played over 50 different ones this past year. Danger lurks everywhere if you do not hit straight. If I could choose one word for the course I would say UNRELENTING. Every shot from the tee box to a simple 60 yd. chip there is either deep rough/grass bunkers to sand and/or water. There is a lot of water that you play around/over which adds to the beauty of the course not to mention several small hills sprinkled here and there on every hole. You must put 4 perfect shots together consistently or you will pay the price one way or another. The heat/humidity right now is terrible (99 degrees by 7AM. Small knatty flies seem to be everywhere which adds to the excitement as they flurry around you right before you hit your shot. All in all I would say it is a must play at some time in your life, just not this time of year. Punishing yet memorable. One side note- Unless you are a 10 handicap or less do not even think of playing the blue tees. Our group ahead of us tried to and they took 5 hours with no one in front of them (looking for lost balls/having to drive back and re-tee and so forth) It was rediculous practically having to wait every shot for the sake of their egos. Great customer service, cart girl was pro, bringing us lots of water and ice 4 times throughout the round!!

Played Sunday 7/24/05 @ 7A. A pretty fun course overall. Very hard to say the least. First of all, I do not recommend playing there this time of year. There were more flies that buzzed all over you at a pretty constant rate that I have ever seen or felt in my life.....and because of the hurricane in Cancun area the humidity was off the chart. ( It's 99 degrees by 7AM and we were sweating before we even teed off. This is a Pete Dye course and as you may or may not know he is a sick individual. There are many sand traps pot bunkers etc...rough is 5 inches in some areas. If you do not hit pretty straight for the most part you will be penalized. However, the back nine was pretty awesome. Scenic as you play right in between the mountains...

Hidden Valley is probably the best Course/Layout!!/Value in Southern Cal. (Besides Rustic Canyon). Awesome LAYOUT. Well designed holes. A hard course overall because of all the O.B. however a very fun day and I am the average player at 95 (23H). Played Sunday 7/17/05 at 9:30A. Our fourth was late so we had to let 2 groups go ahead of us and the 1st group that went ahead of us were perhaps the slowest group I have ever seen in my life. (15 minutes- I kid you not at each tee box!!!) After seeing this while putting at the practice green I called the starter right away at the first hole. They were great..professional...sent the 70-year old marshall out and he promptly took care of it by letting not only the group ahead of us play through but ley us as well play through so we were able to enjoy our day and play a 4-1/4 hr round on a Sunday!!!!!!!! Hats off to the Starter/Marshall....Anyways, I've played at over 50 different public courses since last year and I rate Hidden Valley to be one of the BEST courses period!!!!
