Played Oct 2018. We got a multi-round package which put the rate at about $95 anytime of day. Played Beach twice and Kings twice. Thought the Beach course greens rolled much slower than Kings. Overall, the condition of the greens seemed fine...rolled smoothly for the most part. Fairways were very playable. The main issue with both courses (and a lot of the courses on the Big Island) is that you either play short (less than 6K yards) or you play 6500-6600 yards. They all need to develop a combo around 62 or 6300 yards. Hopefully, the infrequent players would be able to choose a more appropriate tee box. During our time there, seemed as though Beach got more play than Kings so was always slower...about 4-1/2 hours. Service is impeccable so you feel really valued when playing here. Think I prefer the Kings better than the Beach layout but both are good tracks. Lots of lava on Kings but shouldn't be in play for better golfers. Both are definitely worth playing.

Played Oct 2018. We hadn't played this course since it re-opened after being closed for a few years so thought we'd give it a shot. Aside from the holes that play by the ocean, the course could be located anywhere. The ocean holes are really nice (great views) and, if you haven't played here before, are worth the visit. The rest of the course is ok just not special. Course conditions were good overall but thought the bunkers could use some maintenance. Based on our visit, there is absolutely no friendly service here. The guy in the pro shop didn't even acknowledge me when I walked through the door and looked around the merchandise. There was absolutely no one else in the pro shop so he could have at least said hello before I spoke to him. He didn't seem to want to be bothered with customers. Despite ringing the bell at the bag drop, no one came to retrieve our bags so we had to carry them down. Frankly, I expect more. You can find deals at this course but they want to price themselves similar to other resort courses but the service level is much lower. Glad we tried it again but don't expect to play here anymore.

Played Oct 2018 and found the course to be in great shape. We've played this course several times over the years and, frankly, forgot/didn't think about how much uphill many of the holes play nor how blind some of the tee shots are. Somehow this time, we noticed so it made it seem challenging. I will say that I felt the service level had dropped considerably since we last played about 4 years ago. I remember lots of staff (marshals, bag attendants, pro shop) and how friendly they were on previous occasions. Still friendly but there was almost no one playing the day we played so there were few staff on hand. The bag attendant was very service-oriented and the lady in the pro shop was nice. We will give the course another try next time we are on the Big Island. Hopefully, it was just an "off" day for us.

Now called Makani Golf Club. They've been doing fairway and lake renovation but it's clear that the fairways will never be great...too many bear dirt spots and grass that looks more like weeds spread throughout. The staff is quite friendly and some of the holes have really nice views but for my vacation dollars, I'd rather play elsewhere. Disappointed because all we've ever heard about is how great this course is. Hopefully, their renovation work will improve the course but we won't be back.

Played in the SCGA member outing on 6/19/10. Had a wonderful time. Course is in great condition...lush fairways with greens rolling about medium speed. Pace of play was about 4.5 hours.

Played today. Course had been aerated a few days ago so the greens on the Desert/Willow 9 were heavily sanded. Fairway on The Palms 9 had been aerated but was playable while the greens were in great condition and about medium speed. Fairway grass and rough on both 9's were thin. Course layout is enjoyable and the course plays easy. The views with the surrounding mountains are just wonderful so it's ashame that the course isn't more accessible. Definitely will play here again.

Lovely setting amongst trees with views of surrounding mountains. We enjoyed our day, the course layout is decent but the overall condition of the course is sub-par. No sand in bunkers...basically bunkers are hard as concrete. The rough is not cared for and is mostly just the surrounding meadowland which has been mowed...lots of holes filled with sand, very uneven surfaces, lots of weeds. Fairways have lots of bare spots and are quite bumpy but overall are playable. Greens are good. Staff was nice and friendly but it's too far to drive to play a course that isn't in tip-top shape.

Hadn't played the course in several years. What a surprise at how awful this course has become. Arroyo course is gone (abandoned). Lake/Mountain course was in fair condition -- patchy fairways, temporary greens on a few holes. Some fairways and greens were ok but overall the course has really gone downhill.

Course was in great shape! Fairways had recently been aerated and greens were sanded but course was very playable. Greens were slow because of the sand but they were in excellent condition...no bad spots...and rolled pretty well. Really enjoyed the round.

We had not played this course in many years and it has deteriorated substantially. Fairways are bare, lots of hard pan; bunkers are hard dirt (no sand). Greens were in good condition but the overall condition of the course is so poor we will not return.
