Played the newly renovated Olivas Links on a windy afternoon. The clubhouse is not yet complete so the operations and restrooms are run out of trailers. As of 11/05/07 golf carts were not available, however quality pushcarts were. The course is nothing like it was prior to its renovation. The fairways were punched, but I was surprised by their firmness which provided high bounces and significant roll from all your drives. Yardage markings are on spinkler heads around the course. With a lack of a course map on the score card and the links style, if is sometimes difficult to see where the greens are. The fairways are relatively narrow and an errant tee shot can find you in either water, or the waste areas. Many of the greens are protected by deep nice white sand bunkers. Almost all of the greens are elevated, tiered, but run true and fast on Bermuda grass. A unique twist is the 9th and 18th holes sharing the same green, so don't shoot for the wrong flag as I did. Overall a fun, pretty course that is easy to walk that provides a fair challenge to the above average golfer.

I played this course for the first time on Easter Monday and I was pleasantly surprised as to the variety and condition of every hole. Most of the course is lined with trees, yet forgiving enough to accommodate the average golfer who may spray the odd tee shot. All of the par fours are reachable in two shots with a well placed drive, as are the par fives. All the par three's are over 150 yards. The greens were soft, relatively small, and were all in great shape, and ussually ran away from the dam. My only complaint was the incredible slow play. With the green fees being a low $22, the course attracts many beginners duffing their way around the course. Overall, this is a great place to tune up your game for the price of a couple of buckets of balls.
