Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!I think when I first played here a year ago, the greens were really quick, which is a delight. Played this week and the greens were like sponge. You have to really hit it to get it anywhere near the hole. On some of the holes, it has a white flag, but pin was in the back of the green. I thought California was in drought, but couldn't tell from this course. There was casual water in certain spots, and many fairways were overwatered and thus soggy and muddy.
This was our first time on this course, and it seemed a bit disorganized on the first tee box. There was some tournament after us and they weren't sure if they were going to have us go off on 10 or 1. The GPS was almost useless on several holes because it doesn't give you any tips as to which side to favor or where to aim, nor yardages to fairway bunkers and carry distance over the environmental stuff which is pretty much like the majority of the course. The staff was pretty courteous.
Everyone who's ever played golf in So. Cal knows what it's like at Los Verdes. The starters have no motivation whatsoever to show courtesy or any professionalism whatsoever. Pretty much the only way to make a tee time is to show up at 3 or 4am and get in line. Even then, when you get to be the ninth person on the board, how is it that all the tee times are all taken from 6 am to 10am? They know that their rates can't be beat and people still show up and wait hours trying to get on. If you try to call, they don't bother answering the phones because they have others that they just place on hold to block your calls. I know this because I used to have a buddy that worked there. Bumpy greens, no grass in fairways, skimpy bunkers are constant conditions on that course.
Played 8/26 in am and was overall pleased with the conditions. Unlike the legends, the champions course was better maintained. The greens were very true and putts held their lines and the greens were very quick, but fair. Only negative would've been the "wet" conditions on some of the fairways, and near green areas, which caused the ball to attract mud and affect your shot.
Played 8/26 in the afternoon after having played the champions in the am. Found the legends to be very subpar in comparison to the champions course. The fairways were either wet & muddy, or had bare spots. Also, it looked like another victim of heavy play, as fairways were full of divots, which looked like pot holes. Greens were not rolling as true either. Finally, bunkers was like dirt.
