Just piggybacking off of joshuajcyoo's excellent review from yesterday at Alhambra, which I played with two buddies on Labor Day Monday. Price was $45 to ride and played from the blue tees. Alhambra, while it will never be the toughest course out there with all of its short par 4s and mostly reachable par 5s, is still one of the better deals around because they simply take such good care of this place and their hard work almost always shows.

Greens aren't fast right now but roll very nicely and have great coverage. The course is very green right now despite the hot summer temps, and the rough can definitely get very sticky and deep in places - one of the course's few defenses. One of my first-time playing partners also commented that the course was very 'targety' with so many tree-lined fairways and short angles.

Tee boxes and bunkers in good shape all around but not quite pristine, but that's just fine. It's a great course to go and shoot some decent scores at to get some confidence back and to really dial in that wedge and short game since most of your drives will not be leaving you a long way from the pin on at least seven of the par 4s.

I always enjoy coming back to this terrific little course and make sure to do so at least once a year. But if you're a handicap fiend like I am, be wary because even a great round here won't do much for lowering your handicap, if that's what you're looking to do. But definitely come check out this little gem if you want to have a fun, relatively stress-free round.

I love this course because I always feel better about my golf game after playing it. It's also my go-to spot on busy days.

The layout is arguably the shortest regulation course you'll ever play, but it still has a lot of charm. The course is fairly narrow, but a lot of the holes have fairly difficult tee shots and approach shots, with a few elevation changes as well. Altogether though, there are some very, very good scoring holes, including some questionably short Par 4's.

Conditions wise, the course is in better shape than what you would expect at a municipal course geared for beginners. The fairways are pretty nice and green, and the rough is decently thick and can be fairly tough to get good contact out of it. The bunkers could use a little bit more sand, but the sand levels are definitely playable. The greens are soft and fairly smooth, rolling at a medium speed, and I had no complaints about them at all.

It always surprises me that the course is so open at almost any time of the day, as I can come and play on weekends and there will hardly be anyone on the course. The price is reasonable, and the enjoyment factor is always pretty high.

I have reluctantly been taking a break from golf for a while due to tendinitis in the right elbow, but I was jonesing bad and on spur of the moment decided to hit Alhambra to test the waters and get my fix. I didn't check GK first so it was my fault when I got there and found all the greens recently punched and sanded. For my purposes it wasn't a deal breaker, although for the rest of you, give it time to rebound. Greens here are usually reasonably quick with subtle breaks while today they were slow and bumpy — totally uncharacteristic of their norm. That said, the rest of the conditions were fine. With a couple of exceptions, good teeing grounds, fairways with nice coverage and decent rollout, and the one bunker I was in was a bit damp but not overly firm and thus playable. They got me out right away with a two other singles so customer service was on point as always. Behind a five some for the front nine, it was a bit slow, but they disappeared for the back nine and we down to a twosome, so the back went quicker and we netted just over 4 hours. Nice little course that needs a few weeks for the greens to recover. I made some progress rediscovering my swing, so having low expectations, I had an enjoyable round in the end.

With DST upon us, decided to try for a twilight round today. Cloudy/cool so place was quite and walked 18 in 3 H. Course is under new management now (Bill Casper Corp Golf) and many new faces around. ... Continue »

With DST upon us, decided to try for a twilight round today. Cloudy/cool so place was quite and walked 18 in 3 H. Course is under new management now (Bill Casper Corp Golf) and many new faces around. Course has still not fully dried out from the heavy rains, so the fairways are not providing much roll out. Good lies, but still muddy in some areas. Very little rough anywhere to deal with, though you do still have some OB areas and water to avoid. Did not visit any traps, but they all appeared to be fine/playable. Tee boxes are all level/clean. Greens were in nice shape, chipped/putted just fine, with good speed. Having not played here in sometime, I did not find any changes to the course and it is still a good, reasonable place to play. Customer service was excellent at all levels.

Played here on Sunday with Stew, Kevin and Eric. Fun day despite the wet and muddy course. I did not rate the course as it was just after 2 days of rain and conditions were not the normal they usually have here. Agree with the previous reviews and greens are slower than usual due to the rain. Finished in under 4 hours with very relaxed pace. Course is an easy walk (except for a few on the back9) and no hole is the same. I usually take my junior golfers here and Alhambra is quite kid friendly. Bev and snacks available for purchase at the turn. Overall, a fun course and will be back.

I played yesterday with our GK Team Match Play foursome. Despite all the rain, there were only a few small areas that were really too wet, but the lift, clean, and place winter rules we played really helped us out a lot. Greens were very nice. They ran medium speed; they looked faster, but many of us left putts (including downhill putts) short. It must have been due to the wet weather. Fairways and rough were decent; a little wet, but not overly so. Sand traps had wet, hard-packed sand. Not too good. Some tees were not level, especially along the back nine/east edge of the course where it's hilly. Customer service was good. We checked in and got out in a reasonable time frame for our 12:26 tee time. Not too many groups in front of us, but we still needed about 4 hours to finish. Still, a good POP. It's a short course, but I do like playing here. There are opportunities to shape shots off the tee and you could score low if your short game is on.

First time here at Alhambra playing the GK Four-ball with kviser, golferic420 & hammer74, fun times. Course is very short, great for juniors/seniors, with lots of 300 yd-ish par 4's and almost reachable (for me) par 5's with a flat front and semi-hilly back. Mature trees line the fairways so you can get in trouble if you are not straight off the tee. Slope only 115 from the Blues at 5400 yds, par 71, course managed by the city of Alhambra. Greens were the highlight, mostly flat or gentle breaks, rolling medium speed and true with only a few fresh, unrepaired marks. Fairways in decent winter shape, rough could be thick but we played L,C, & P due to the soft, wet areas which was a good idea due to the many 'mud' balls we cleaned. Bunkers a bit firm, not maintained, mostly due to heavy rain the previous day. We played at our own pace, just under 4 hrs. I'd play here again for sure if I was looking for a softer course to play with a junior, or just wanted to post an ego score. We paid $36 walking rate on a Sunday at 12:26. Still recommended for a short 'regulation' course.

Course was in decent shape considering it rained the previous day. Except for the on going bird/duck poop all over the 1st and 9th holes, it was an enjoyable walk. Greens were soft and medium fast. Still hoping people will repair their ball marks. Bunkers were a bit thin. But for $21 - certainly worth the green fee.
