After the weekend in Palm Springs, I had to work in the morning but was able to get in an afternoon round at Chester. The conditions were not bad for the season. It is not as lush as during the fall when I last played here but the rough is a factor and the fairways gave decent lies. The sand looked thin but I found it to be a decent hitting surface. The greens were disappointing. They were typical afternoon poa greens, with bumps and misdirections (including guiding in my only birdie). It looked like they had done a verticut recently and they had done a punch on the edges of some of the greens with some sand there. I think they are repairing bare spots on the greens. Actually, it must be working because I recall more bare areas than are presently on the greens. The tee areas were re-done this fall and were flat. A couple did not have monuments to tell where the yardage was measured from. I like the layout and the wind came up making it more difficult. I also very much appreciate the starter getting me out immediately when I walked up. The only negative was pace of play - about 5.5 hours on a holiday afternoon.

I enjoy playing here. You know why? Management and staff know how to treat a customer right and their golf conditions just keep getting better. I don't mean to gush but these greens were fast and true. A little bumpiness which is to be expected but for the most part conditions here are pretty good. Fairways are a little thin but playable. Rough is thick and getting thicker. Sand in bunkers is pretty well maintained and stocked. Only problem I had for the day of the week was the Pace of Play. They are busy. I guess word does get around when conditions are this good and it's expected that POP will suffer but hey for the price the golf course conditions here are pretty good.

Play here again? Of course especially if they keep up the good work. BTW all tee work has been completed. Nice and flat.

Played here Friday the 28th. With only getting the front nine in on 2:28 tee time. Sunny,light winds and cool 50's. Pace was a bit slower with groups backed up at each tee box. Course is fantastic shape now. All the tee box work is done on the front with some very nice, new red tee boxes(hey Ladies!). Also a new mirror on he 9th tee. I think you can see more fairway and the approach zone better on this blind, downhill fairway with the new lens. Fairways were good and tight cut. Rough was fairly light. I couldn't putt this day, but the greens were rolling well. Bunkers a bit thin for me. The 7th green side right hand had standing water in it. Starter was on it. Overall a nice way to end the week.

Played twilight (walking w/out cart) $18. Great deal considering the course is in pretty good condition. Greens rolled pretty true. Only noticed that on two/three greens there seems to be some damage to the sides of the green. Overall though balls rolled pretty true and quick. Sand in bunkers well stocked and saw my share of them. Fairways in pretty decent shape. Tee boxes -- all work has been completed and you get a nice FLAT surface. No more short holes tee boxes are all back and being used.

For the price it's a good deal. Pace of Play(POP) was pretty decent finishing 18 holes in just under 4 hours. Not bad considering we were a twosome following a five-some.

Noticed two greens in particular had some sort of fungus but it looked like they nipped that in the bud fairly quickly and have repaired some of the bare spots. (If memory serves 1 and 3).

Would I play here again? You betcha. I have noticed their customer service is superior. They want to get you out and playing quickly and typically the POP is above par with other golf courses in the area.

Off in " 3rd" group of regulars Sat am as single. Pace was 4.5hrs despite no gaps in groups.

Greens except for a few edges best I've seen there ( note to course: Sat be prime rate; don't put ALL flags 6 ft from edges!). Greens were not cut for couple days-slow.

Sand in bunders looks new-fluffy.

Tee boxes all rebuilt, literally a tee box with wooden borders sunk in ground outlying the tee area. Gone is Blue 2nd tee on #2.

Back 9 tougher than front, although course has some long par 4's. Love trying to " hold" 9 iron to narrow green on 14. Fun course to play- similar feeling to Santa Anita.

Played in the South Bay Cup on Sunday. Course is decently lush. The thick kikuyu on the tees can be annoying but the re-done tee boxes are level. The rough is a factor where lush although like all LA County courses, they do not water it in all places. I was not in the sand but there were no comments from other players about them. That usually is a good sign. The greens have essentially healed from the aeration. They were somewhat bumpy and not as firm as they have been recently. This caused the ball to check on chips and putts did not always roll true. There are still some bare spots on a few greens that look like fungal damage but generally the greens are recovering well. Overall, decent muni conditions that should improve as the greens firm up.

Played in a tournament on Sunday, 10/7. The course is in okay shape. The half of the greems which were punched a couple of weeks ago are largely healed. I only noticed the holes on a few of the greens. For whatever reason though, the greens were bumpy, possibly because they were putting the flag in the punched half of the green. They had decent speed. One annoyance was the height of the fringe. They were shaggy with a big collar. I three putted twice in a row when my ball ended up against it. The fairways and rough were lush although it looks like they are watering only close to the fairway. There were some bare spots but overall the course was green. The sand was okay. Our tournament started a half hour late and the round was 5.5 hours long. It was a beautiful day though. The course gets an ocean breeze which was a factor especially on 7, 9 and 17. They have a good cafe and a bar.

At present (August 2012) the Course is undergoing major work on the tee areas..paid for by the county. At least 3 tees are temporary each week while this is being done. the fees, however, remain unchanged.Unfortunately, players were allowed to use the new tees almost immediately with the result that some are now damaged again with divots and bare spots. The fairways are a mess with the cut grass just left there most of the time. Hopefully when all are finished, the Course will be improved. There is a concern that the yardages will be changed..hopefully not, as that would mean a re-rating by the County.
