I just do not understand how come it takes almost six months to play this course? There is very little water that actually comes into play, no real forced carries, not a lot of trees bordering the very generous fairways, fairly flat and simple greens, no blind shots, etc. Yet EVERY time I play here it takes forever! I swear to never return, then I wait a few years, come back and it's the same old story. (And this is during the week, not weekend) My brother is right...... pay more $$, play better courses and do not subject yourself to this torture.

Played Saturday. Greens very bumpy overall and smooth/rolled true on other holes. Hard to gauge speed for me so it was a rough day of putting. Fairways are lush, a little thin in spots, but overall I liked what I was hitting. Rough is thick and bushy. Sand in bunkers is hard packed but easy to hit out. Pace of play was terrible. Although groups ahead were 3somes we were on their tails the whole day. They were in some mini tournament and REFUSED to wave us up on the par 3s even when the other groups ahead were slow getting through the greens. This led to 4-5 group backups on the par 3s. They finally picked up on the back 9 but even then it was difficult for folks in our group to rally and get their game going. I guess the worst part was they were unwilling to wave up; that and the fact they just stood like bumps on a log especially when some folks in their group were not long hitters. I mean, it was ridiculous for you to wait until they were beyond the 230 yards if they could only hit the ball 150 yards. Meanwhile we would have to wait for them to finish their conference golf antics. One thing about carts, you just don't wait for one guy to hit. You grab your clubs and walk to your ball so you're all ready. Instead we had to wait on every shot and watch as they moved their group slowly from ball to ball. Overall pace of play was approximately 5 1/2 hours. Not bad for a weekend but still painful; felt almost like work. Greens as I said were bumpy on most greens and I suspect they will areating soon which is why conditions were so, in my opinion, lacking. Will return again once green conditions improve.

Played 2/11 (Thursday). Started at 1pm thinking I could maybe finish 18 before dark. Boy I was wrong. 3 hours and 15 mins. later I was walking off the 9th green, with 2 groups waiting to tee off on the 10th. It seems this course is getting slower and slower each time I play. (way to many people on the course!!)
You can have no flow to a golf game when you have to wait this long in between shots.
Not worth the green fee!

Played Sunday. Not many people playing on Valentine's Day and Lunar Calender Chinese New Year?!??. Still the pace of play was 5 hrs. could be better if the group of four some front of us hitting two balls per player on some Par 3 holes. Of course NO Marshall. Conditiion of the green was fair and sandtraps got plenty of fresh sands. Tee boxes and fairways need TLC. Forgot to tell the starter after the round that on Hole# 7 par 5 around 150 yards marker on the right side of the fairway that there is BeeHive inside the one of the tree. Be aware.!!

1/2 of each green has been Aerated. Front 9 Tee Boxes have been resodded. Back 9 Tees are not resodded. Parts of the greens not aerated are a bit fuzzy but hold a good golf shot well. You can see loads of foot marks around the green, but if you are on the unaerated side of the green you won't notice it. Pace of play was GREAT. Finished in a little over 4 hours and the setting sun so there was plenty of light left. Fairways are in good shape. Tee boxes are also in good shape. Sand is nice and I saw more than my fair share of them. Front tees are being resodded so the course is not as long as it is normally. You can play really aggressive but you play mainly from silver tees so even par 5s are reachable in two. No mention on golf course home page they are aerating so I am here to say they did and they are aereated. Give them a few more weeks until they come back, but one thing for sure and Swing18 who was playing with me will agree, once those greens come back... they will be FAST and trecherous!

Played a practice round with OSCA1961 for an upcoming PLGA team play (Match Play) on Friday October 2nd 2009. The course overall is "good" shape! As you walk in from the parking lot, you'll notice that the fairways appear to be dying with brownish dead spots all over. Aesthetically it's not appealing, but your lies on the fairways are beautiful, lush, and react well when compressing the ball. I seemed to have lots of roll on these fairways since I last played here...since I only had about 125 yards to the green on hole #6, a very demanding long par 4 that plays about 450 yds. The greens were the typical municipal type conditions, lots of "unrepaired" pitchmarks by lazy golfers, but the ball was rolling pretty fast on these undulating greens. The rough wasn't too bad, it was almost as short as some of the fairways on some munis out there so you pretty much had a wide open space out there without running into trouble. Overall I'd give Lakewood a 7 on course conditions and a 10 on customer service!

A pretty nice course layout with enough challenging features to make it enjoyable. The fivesomes slow play down considerably. I played a 5 1/2 hour round - it is really hard to enjoy golf when you are always waiting to play. Green fees are reasonable - perhaps that's why so many people play.
