Played 6/3/20 at 810... Course is only allowing people with tee times on the property and then it's only 10 minutes before your tee time- unless you're using the driving range. This did a lot for crowd control and they want you off the property as soon as you are done with your round. It made most of the people gather in the parking lot or at the main entrance. Masks required in the common areas, the snack bar and around the club house. Condition wise, it was probably the best I've seen it in a while. Tee boxes mostly level, fairways with excellent coverage, rough just a little longer but not penal, greens rolling well except for some occasional unrepaired divots. There are some areas of the course were there patches/clumps of grass next to some bare spots, but they were few and far between. The sand traps are the only thing I had issues with since there were no rakes- footprints were everywhere! But for the amount of traffic this course gets, some slack is warranted. All of staff at Lakewood are really doing a wonderful job considering the circumstances- please be kind to the girls at the entrance that have to put up with all the rude people throughout the day...

Played Fri Feb 21st at 730. This is the first time I have played here as I live in norco in riverside and it is a long trip. Getting there not bad but getting home through the 91 canyon not good. Several of us got our L A County senior card so we are adding courses to our rotation, walking for $16.50 is nice. I was very pleasantly surprised at the course, I thought the tee boxes and fairways were in good shape, the rough was not penal, greens were fairly receptive and rolled real nice, I was in 5 bunkers and was very impressed with the amount of sand , very nice. We played as a 5 some in 4:32 which was not bad. I will definitely come back.

We played here yesterday teeing off at 9:15 and 1:30. We did need to wait on most shots but still got our round done in 4.5 hours which isn't to bad. We played here a lot years ago but rarely tee it up here with all the other options around. For $30 to walk this is a pretty good deal and an easy walk. Course conditions are what you would expect for a muni, everything is average but very playable. If you play here from the tips it can be quite a challenge. The course is super soft right now due to all the rains and the greens were a little slow for my taste but we had a great time with perfect weather and ended 2019 by chipping in for birdie on 18!!! 5th group out at 6:30am. I had concerns about pace of play being the 5th group out and also carts on path, but to my surprise and delight, we tee'd off right on time and were able to get around in exactly 3 1/2 hours. Not too bad considering.

Course has handled the rains reasonably well. There were some areas which were sloppy, some muddy spots, and the bunkers were thin and damp, but all things considered, better than I expected. Not much roll and greens were kinda slow, but decent.

Walking up #18, I could see it was lined up on #1 waiting to play. Sure glad we went off early !

Like many of the L A County courses, you better get out early otherwise it will be a long day. Always crowded at Lakewood, but if you're lucky enough to secure an early time, pace is tolerable, even with the fivesomes being sent out.

David's most recent review covers conditions very well. It's not that the course is in bad condition, or even good condition, it seems it all depends where your ball ends up. Some lies are fine, others thin. Some bunkers have sand, others don't. Parts of the rough is thick/juicy, next time, thin and sparse. Tee boxes were same way, some good, some needing attention.

Years ago I always played Lakewood from the "tips", but times have changed as those tees are no longer feasible. Even the blue tees provide several holes which now are beyond my abilities. The par 3 holes and a few of the par 4 holes really expose your shortcomings when distance deserts you.

But using the senior discount cards makes this a bargain to play and despite some conditioning issues, still an enjoyable course to play. (Providing you get out early)

Played with my monthly club on Saturday, 10/12/19, at 9am, but didn’t tee off until 9:35 as the course was punching out 5somes and they already a half-hour behind at 9 o’clock! Weather was clear and warm with almost no wind, and course had no condition issues, so slow play was completely on the players. Overall a 5-hr round.

Conditions were typical for what you get at Lakewood – everything was just OK. Greens were receptive and rolled at medium speed, getting a little quicker as the day progressed. Only green #6 showed any signs of last month’s aeration. Fairways had mostly good coverage but you could never tell when you would get a thin or bare area or an area with critter mounds. Rough was dry/bare or ranging to thick/juicy. Sand was mostly fairly thin but playable, but partners also encountered deep/soft as well as no sand areas. Tees had various problems – boxes on 5 and 11 were sloping to a right-handed golfer’s rear; on 4, the markers were set up in the middle of a recently resodded area(!), so everything was soft and uneven; some tees had been punched with large holes and not (yet?) sanded.

Most of the white tee markers were placed forward of the white plates. Cranky starter was pushing you to get out on #1, where waiting awaited – no rangers. OK for a slow casual round.

Played Saturday, 10/5. Walked up and got out quickly at about 7:00. They sent us out as a threesome although the course was generally crowded. We played in 4:15, so pace of play was not bad.

Played Saturday, 10/5. Walked up and got out quickly at about 7:00. They sent us out as a threesome although the course was generally crowded. We played in 4:15, so pace of play was not bad.

Course is in decent shape. I was in a couple of bare spots in the fairway and had some bare or lousy lies in the rough, but overall not bad conditions. I was in plenty of sand traps and while not a great deal of sand in them, there was enough. The greens showed little signs of the aeration but they are still shaggy and some bumps were evident.

The blue tees on many of the holes were back farther than usual. My recollection is the par 3s played at 167, 215 (although I did not get a read on the stick), 197, and 205 (shaky recollection on this one). The fairways on the longer holes were pretty wet. The course was playing long. It was a good test and a fun experience with two congenial companions.

No one waved up on the par 3s, no one was asked to play through, and the greens were full of fresh ball marks, sand traps were not raked, a twosome of men were waiting to hit tee shots on par 4s until the 3some in front were at the greens, we had to wait on every hole even though we were a 5 some !!
5 1/2 hours. I asked the pro shop after why they started letting, 2s and 3s out and not putting them together. They said it is American Golfs new policy to do this. They don't want make people play with strangers ??? Been playing that course for 40 years and now thinking of not anymore. What a great course and they have one of the best Greenskeepers in the area !! My hats off to Armondo ! Being an old greenskeeper my self !!

Played in a tourney Sunday, 8/4. The pace was not as bad as feared, 2:20 on the front then slowed down to 5 hours total. Our first groups were slowed down by the public play in front of them. Great service as usual. Some guys at the bar were having the Cowboy Breakfast that looked sinfully good.

The course was in nice shape. There some dry areas, fairway and rough, but overall pretty lush. Was in two bunkers and the sand was not deep but okay. The greens were the highlight. Not as fast as I have seen them here but still good speed and rolling nicely. The tee boxes were a mixed bag. About the only complaint I had on them was when I had to hit an iron off the tee the kikuyu grass was so thick that a partial tee barely got to the ground. The tourney played the white tees and some of them were pretty far up, especially #2, so hitting an iron was unusually viable here. Took quite a bit of teeth out of those holes.

I enjoyed the round and will be back.
