Played on Saturday, July 17, at about 6:00 am. Beautiful summer morning. The coffee shop was closed when we teed off. The halfway house was open when we made the turn about 8:00. Friendly service all around. We played in 3:50 although it took a call to the clubhouse from one in our group to get a marshal out to push the group in front of us who were over a hole behind by #6. We had waited on every shot until then. Kudos to the course for getting someone out there quick to take care of it.

The course was in pretty good shape. Some over watered spots presumably because of the warm weather. There were some spots in the fairways not as good as others but no real bare spots that I saw. I was in several sand traps and they were okay. One player in our group was in a greenside bunker that did not have much sand. Tee boxes were very lush and generally level. The rough was cut down and generally not much of a factor. The greens were the highlight. Smooth, better than medium speed and sneaky fast downhill.

The course is in pretty good shape right now. Recommended.

Teed off Monday morning at 6:30 finishing in 4:15. Could have been under 4 hours if not for a slower foursome a couple groups ahead. It has been almost five years since I have played Lakewood and I was overall pleased with the conditions. The greens rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage with decent roll out. I can't remember having a bad lie in the fairway. The rough is a mixed bag. Around the greens the rough was mostly good. The rough along the tree lines varied from bare to good. Length wasn't very penal but the lie could be difficult. The bunkers appeared to have good sand. Plenty of foot prints in the sand but that will be remedied when rakes return. The tee boxes were reasonably level with decent coverage although at times a bit long. The staff was friendly.

Played Saturday, 5/1, at around 7:00 am. Great morning for my last time to play before an extended lay off. Very efficient pro shop, we went out right on time. Unfortunately, the coffee shop does not open until 8:00 and I am not sure when the half way house opens. We went through there right around 9:00 and it was closed. POP was okay, right at 4 hours.

The course was in pretty good shape as long as you were in the fairway. I do not recall a bad lie in the fairway. They looked nice and were decently lush. I recall several bad lies in the rough, sometimes sitting on dirt between clumps and a couple of times on the back nine in the wire grass (or whatever its called) that also plagues Los Verdes. The sand in the bunkers was plentiful in the two I was in. The tee boxes were generally level with good grass, to where if I was hitting a hybrid or iron I had to make a footprint to get the grass down. Not atypical of Kikuyu.

The greens, with a few exceptions, looked fully recovered from aeration. A few greens had faint outlines on some edges with what may have been follow up sand. The greens rolled well. They were not as quick as usual and they were not as quick as they looked. Medium speed.

I always enjoy playing this course. A good test from the blue tees especially in the morning when tee shots might not roll out as much. Can't wait to get out there again.

Was scheduled to play River Ridge on Sunday but found a much closer tee time late on Friday for Lakewood and jumped at the chance for an earlier return home after my round. Played with two friends from the blue tees, two riding, one walking, with a $47 greens fee.

I've seen Lakewood in better shape years previous, but it's certainly far from its worst right now. You're going to find plenty of good lies during the day, but you're also going to contend with some thin ones - in or out of the fairway - and no shortage of dried out, unrepaired divots. There were also some soggy areas out there, but not too bad. Tee boxes were adequate and the bunkers (I was in LOTS of them) actually had good, playable sand, but not the fluffy stuff.

The greens were running pretty quick but so many unrepaired ball marks out there that it made it tougher than it should have been to sink relatively easy putts. They did hold good approach shots well though and looked to be healthy, but it appears that most of the damage is poor-golfer-etiquette-inflicted. Perhaps individual responsibility in terms of course maintenance is simply tied in with the cost one pays to play.

POP was pretty good throughout the beautiful February day as we closed out the round in four and a half hours. No cart service anywhere on the course but a nice snack shop at the turn and en route from the 2nd to the 3rd hole tunnel. Carts are basic with no frills and the mask protocols are heavily enforced at the pro shop and driving range.

Super Bowl Sunday is always one of my favorite days to play and this past one was no exception. While I would not tell you that Lakewood is in premium shape right now, it's a more than enjoyable round with a fun layout that gets the blood pumping.

Played 01/21/21 , 3rd group out and it was a blast. The course is much better condition than I expected. Greens were in really good condition. The greens were fast when you are above the hole. Plus the course must be doing to something to cut down on the Geese population because the last time we played some green were almost unbearable do to geese crap. But not today. Fairways and tee box were is decent shape too. There were some bare areas on the fairway but overall the course is in really good winter condition. Range is open. Didn't see beverage cart but if memory serves the snack shop was open on the way back. We loved all the long par 3's and spectacular greenside bunkers. #3 is a beautiful Par 3. Absolutely will be back and it's a good value at $38 to walk weekday.

Walked the blues at 1250 on 11/15 with a POP of 420. COVID-19 protocols in place, and they adhere more stringently then other courses I have been to. Course is in about the worst shape I have seen it, but having said that was still enjoyable and the greens rolled pretty ok. Tee boxes were mushy and a mixed bag rated 5/10. Fairway were pretty awful, spotty would be putting it nicely 4/10. Rough is even worse, with dirt patches coming into play about 10 yards off most fairways 3/10. Can't speak to the bunkers as I wasn't in any, but my playing partner got out just fine 5/10. Greens were the highlight and still not that great, a lot of unrepaired ball marks (and fresh ones). I fixed about 3 per hole in addition to my own. They rolled medium and seemed to have no break rated 6/10. I don't recommend it right now for anything other than a cheap round when you are itching to get out.

Greens were a little on the slow side that day. Rough isn't so penal on this course, it's the trees that will get you. Find yourself in one of those and it's hit or miss on getting to the green.

Not a big fan of the par 3s myself, I favor a mix of par 3s some short some long. All 4 of the par 3s here are pretty brutal.

Overall, had a great time at Lakewood and coming back out soon to play again.

Played Wednesday. It started cloudy but quickly burned away during the afternoon. Golf Course in good shape. Tee boxes are a little on the thick and busy side but playable. Loads of cushion underfoot so you may feel a little unbalanced when you hit your drive. Fairways had good coverage with nice cushion underneath for the most part. Bunkers had decent sand. No rakes so do your best to clean up after yourselves. Greens were in good shape. Rolled medium speed and very consistent from green to green. Pace of play was strange. Twosome playing in fornt of us and we kept running into them. Course was fairly packed even with spacing. NO WATER AVAILALBE ON COURSE. Be sure to stock up in clubhouse/starter. Covid-19 rules are enforced -- essentially Wear a Mask, Wash your hands (Bring Hand Sanitizer) and Keep your distance. No walk-ons allowed; best to call ahead or reserve a tee time online. My personal opinion is this will continue for the foreseeable future (2-3 months). I personally like it since the course is crowded BUT moving. Even range is open but spacing is practiced -- fewer mats. Be safe. Be Smart. Follow their rules and Stay Healthy. If not for you; then for others. Now is not to time to be selfish and petty -- Do that on your own time. When it involves dealing with others, now is the time to be a good, helpful and friendly neighbor.

I agree with sngernz' review for the most part. I thought the roll out on drives was pretty good though, more than other courses I have been playing. The greens were maybe medium speed, not nearly as fast as they can get. That said, they looked nice and rolled well. One disagreement is the sand traps. I was in three or four. They looked like they had been raked by the staff that morning with the only footprints of recent origin. So, overall they were in good shape and had plenty of sand.

They are very strict on the Covid-19 standards. They require one to put on a mask to order at the half way house. The lady sitting at the entrance gate to the course made sure those arriving had tee times and she sent several away who were arriving more than 10 minutes prior to their tee time including a couple from our second group who were teeing off at 6:40. I do not understand how the range operates under those circumstances unless it is excepted. Agree with sngernz's frustration that none of the practice facilities other than the range are open (although admittedly I teed off within five minutes of walking on the grounds).
