Saturday foursome at Wilson today, taking out the new carts with their nice new GPS system and playing from the blue tees. This LA classic is in better-than-average shape right now but could be so much better with just a few tweaks.

Solid if not spectacular course of golf to be found here. The layout is mostly flat and most of the holes are pretty straightforward, but it still has a charming character with respect to the history of the grounds and the outstanding views and wildlife that enhance the experience.

Fairways in good shape but you will definitely find yourself with some thin lies to navigate. Rough can be a bit grabby in places, but nothing too terrifying. Some nice patches, too. Once again, tough to judge bunkers after the recent rains but right now they're poor for sure. Tee boxes are also a bit beat up and in need of work. The greens are a bit on the bumpy side and certainly not aesthetically pleasing, but they're okay. They're rolling a little faster than medium actually and do have some decent slopes to sort out.

Good day of golf and a good time to visit Wilson as long as you know what you should expect. Oh, almost forgot that the POP was not too bad for a Saturday. We started about 10 minutes late and finished around five hours and change. Also had some fun with two inquisitive coyotes at the turn after the snack shop. Do not try this at home.

Played here at 7:15 this morning. I think this is the first time ever playing here for me and I thought the course was a joy to walk and play. The greens were the highlight running pretty fast and smooth. They held shots well and had a lot of undulations. Tees were level but chewed up, sand was fine, and the fairways were mostly lush with a few bare areas. The pace for a Sunday was actually very good at just under 4 hours. I would definely play here again given the chance. The rate was $45 to walk which I thought was okay for a Sunday morning. FYI, rumor is the rates are increasing $5.00 after the first of the year.

Played 11-14-19 early morning walking as a single for $35 and finishing in a little under 3 hours with some waiting. Tee boxes were mostly level but very thin with a lot of bare areas.
Fairways were mostly in in good condition but they did have some bare spots and muddy over watered areas. Rough was a mix, long , short, bare and some muddy areas. Greens were in decent shape, semi-soft, medium pace with some bumps. Overall just okay conditions but fun course to play with nice layout.

It was a two day event to play both courses- a well ran tournament.

Both days were a beautiful conducive day for golf with a nice blue skies with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and a very light wind. No one had any excuses as for the weather. It was a great weekend.

Course conditions here on Wilson is better than the usual for the past ten years or so. The greens were smooth although it didn’t putt anywhere close to fast. It was spongy and receptive and easy to chip in to as ot didn’t roll much. If you can spin the ball, it will check easily. This is a much different greens condition than anything in the high desert, Las Vegas, or the lower desert- Palm Springs. These are not firm greens at all- it looks like bent grass not Bermuda grass also although I am not an expert.

Bunkers were filled with sand (thumbs up), the fairways were mowed close. Most had some roll and ran, some were over watered leaving muddy areas in puddles and some areas prevented the rolls- frustrating. The teeing grounds were fine and it was a pleasure to tee it near or on the markers. The kikuyu rough was not that tall although it was still tough to play from.

All in all it was a pleasure to play in.

The staff were great and helpful. The tournament committee were great although they dropped the ball from emailing a few people for the re scheduled tee time the following day, but no big deal. I’ll give it another chance next year.

Hopefully, the courses here would continue to improve their conditions. Although being it’s a city course I have my doubts but I hope I’m wrong.

Picked a lousy day to have one of the worst rounds in a long time, but this time can't lay any of the blame on the course as Wilson was in probably the best shape I've found it in for years. Sure, the $15 cart fee seems a bit high, and the really long POP of over five hours without any water stations on a really hot day (there are water fountains but they're not in great shape), but the course itself is nice and green and the greens are the best I've ever seen them here.

Rode the blue tees on Saturday with a lovely Korean couple. We had a nice time despite my absolutely terrible play. What we found out there were well covered greens that rolled very nicely, had minimal ball mark damage and retained a consistent, fast speed on trickier greens than I remember.

Fairways were mostly in good shape with a few thin areas, but nowhere near the nightmare I remember here this past year or two. There's actual real grass on every hole right now! And the rough can be thick in places, but also thin, so be prepared for both. Bunkers were in okay shape overall - not the fluffy, white sand but serviceable and playable. Tee boxes were probably the biggest area of need but all flat and no difficulty getting a tee in there.

Would have been nice to see cart service on such a hot day, especially seeing as you don't reach the turn until the 10th hole at Wilson. The carts are as basic as they come, and the range at Griffith Park is nothing to rave about. But we're here to play golf, and if that's your biggest wish, then Wilson is a very nice option right now from the #1 tee box until the #18 green.

Decided to get back out to the Griffith Park courses expecting to end up on Harding,, but was able to get out on Wilson without much waiting. The course is actually in very nice condition right now. Greens rolled well, receptive and reasonably quick. Most of the fairways were green/lush, with only a few areas needing attention. Rough was inconsistent.

I like Wilson better than Harding, despite the fact it now plays too long for me. But I just love the setting with all the trees and zero houses. Also, because the courses does not come in after nine, no issues with "back nine" play. My only real complaint is I feel they charge too much for the L A City courses now.

Played Wilson earlier this week with our regular group and was excited about playing even though the commute might be over an hour. Had a 7:36 tee time and as it turned out, only took about 45 minutes to get there. The last time I was here, I was pretty disappointed with the course conditions, particularly the rough which was pretty bad. This round was totally different and I was impressed. Got out right on time and finished just over 4 hours. The course however is in great shape. What a difference. The fairways were lush and cut down. Tee boxes weren’t great but that’s ok. The rough was cut down and in great shape. No more large, uncut weeds. The bunkers were in good shape as well. The greens were rolling very nicely. Looks like some had some small aeration holes but it didn’t affect performance. Wilson is now as nice as any muni or public facility I have played which is something I could never say before. The only downside was the restaurant. Apparently, it is going through refurbishment. They have a temporary restaurant area which is not air conditioned so it wasn’t pleasant to sit in there on a rather warm day. Regardless, highly recommend and kudos to LA City for getting it together.

Played Wilson early on Memorial Day. Waited about one half hour after getting on the waiting list before I was on the tee. Pretty empty considering it was a holiday, went out as a threesome followed by another and saw some threes and even a pair playing behind us. Maybe the rain the day before or because it was cool in the morning (48 degrees when I got there), but it turned into a spectacular day and was crowded when I finished. A tick under 4 hours for POP.

The course is in good shape. Overall good coverage on the fairways. The rough was cut pretty low but still a factor to hit out of. It was pretty lush Kikuyu in places. Was in one sand trap and had good sand but a playing partner in the same trap had almost no sand under his ball. The greens were soft and I had seen them faster. That said, they were pretty good at medium speed that picked up a little as the course dried out. Some bumps but not too bad. There were some long (as opposed to round) punches on some areas of a few greens but nothing that affected a putt.

Good customer service by the starter. Saw him come out of the shop to show a person the group the guy was playing with. Seemed to very competently handle both courses. Only complaint was the coffee shop did not open until 6:30 am. No coffee! Otherwise no complaints on a great morning on the course. And traffic was light on the way home. Can not ask for more from Wilson.

Played here in April the day they did the maintenance and sanded all the greens... dumb I know but the green fee was only $25-$28 with a cart lol. But this review is mainly for when our 4some played here last week on 5/3/19 (friday).

The greens recovered on Wilson since they did the maintenance but idk why they still have the (maintenance” yellow marker symbol when you look it up in the course list on greenskeeper, maybe the site, putts rolled at a good speed, fairways were good, certain holes have denser rough than others. Started at 12:30, PoP was around 4.5 hours, it was a pretty busy day but we didn’t have to wait on anyone ahead nor were the people behind pushing the pace on us.
