Played here today in group 1A of the GK/Golf Moose outing with David and Tom. Cloudy front nine but the sun broke through somewhat on the back. Event was well organized and pace was decent, just a bit over four and a half hours. Nice GPS on the carts. Instead of a driving range, they have a big netted area with about six hitting mats where you can hit shots maybe 40-50 yards into the netting. The practice green near the staging area got pretty busy but there's another one between the clubhouse and the 18th green.

Conditions are quite good. Greens ran smoothly despite numerous ball marks on many greens. They are sorta sneaky quick with a little extra run out than you expect. Overall, they were medium fast and medium firmness, accepting full shots very well but a little trickier to control the ball from around the green. Fairways had good coverage and were cut tight. Rough also had good coverage and wasn't too deep and most times my ball sat up top, but if it did sink down in a bit, it presented a challenge. White tee boxes were mostly nice, some maybe a little crowned. Most of the bunkers I was in were good but one was pretty firm.

This was my first time playing here. This isn't a course that will "wow" you but it's solid and definitely played tougher than it looks. I found the back nine to have more character than the front nine. My biggest complaint about this course would have to be the noise level from the nearby freeway – almost feels like you can't hear yourself think sometimes. I scored quite poorly and would like another shot at this place sometime.

First time playing California Country Club 11/6. Super day playing with mark_6m, rgm2525 and Fastfist33 as part of Golf Moose / GK Private Course event. Overall good experience with the golf course in nice shape following overseeding. I’m not sure exactly what the issue was with the fairway turf being very soft causing many miss hits by all of us but they looked great.

Enjoyable yet tame by Billy Bell design standards ball striker’s course. Plays long with many elevated greens, large mature trees and well bunkered green complexes. There’s a few elevated tees and a tremendously tough par 4 finishing hole. Greens were medium fast, soft and mostly smooth. Bunkers needed more fresh sand and played firm. Rough was nasty tough to pitch from in places with lots of pins tucked behind bunkers. Sometimes I think superintendents see Greenskeeper on the event sheet and figure its time to break out super challenging pin placement they know the members of the club could complain about. LOL.

Looking forward to scheduling one or two events there for 2024!

Guest round at CCC on 9/2 w/late morning tee time. PoP around 4 hrs. No range here, just a hitting area with torn up netting which was closed, so if you like to hit balls before you play keep that in mind. Old school layout, fairly flat and straight forward ... what you see is in front of you. Fairways in decent shape with a few types of grasses, mostly Kikuyu ... rough thick and juicy. Greens were the highlight, semi-quick and true, mostly flat and easy to putt on. Lowlight is the nearby 605 which seems to be around more than less ... really found it difficult to get used to that constant barrage. Round was comped but to be honest, with the traffic noise, I'm in no hurry to return for that reason only. Covid measures include a donut in the bottom of the cup and masks required around the clubhouse, no rakes in bunkers, too.

Played Tues 8/18 as a guest. Had not played here in over 15 yrs, used to play twice a month with a special deal (knew the starter, LOL). Green fee was a bit steep IMHO $77. Industry Hills guest is $50... Continue »

The Course - Greens were receptive and rolling well at medium sometines quick speed. scattered ballmarks. groups ahead of us were not fixing them, we tried fixing as many as we could. Many greens have fairly severe sloping front areas. Fairways had good coverage but the ball mostly sat a little bit down. Rough was brutal, tended to snag the hosel, best play was to use iron shot out to fairway, very hard to find the ball. Some tees were sloping a little bit, but most were fine. Sand was firm, used the Covid rule and dropped out, some had large deep footprints and evicence ot mi sh-t s. The freeway noice on many of the holes along the frwy reminded me of Diamond Bar.

Played with my monthly group on Friday, 2/7/20, at 10am on a beautiful SoCal winter day – mild temperatures, little wind, and annoying traffic noise only on the “freeway” holes (#s 1 through 18). I realized Friday that my club had been coming here every February for the past 20+ years. Very little has changed over that time – they’ve added a hitting net where there was none, course conditions are pretty similar every year (they are pretty good this year), but there seems to be less and less play on these “public” days.

Greens were the best part of the course, receptive and rolling well at medium+ speed. We saw only occasional scattered old ballmarks. Many greens have fairly severe sloping front areas. Fairways had good coverage but the type of kikuyu here meant that the ball mostly sat a little bit down. We played LCP so that didn’t affect us too much. Rough could be cut down fairly short or be up to 6” deep and juicy, mostly along course margins and under groups of trees. Some tees were sloping a little bit, but most were fine. Sand was in good shape all over the course, although a little damp to start the round.

The facilities here are older and the course looks pretty scruffy around the perimeter. The fairly large hitting net is tattered and balls are older and dirty. Only 5 hitting mats are available but with the limited number of players it was adequate. Carts are basic but serviceable. No yardage book available, but each cart has a small interactive GPS – distances are given to the F/M/B of the green, not pin position. Most holes have colored distance stakes (200/150/100) placed along the cart paths.

OK for a casual round. Course plays pretty long at 6,804/6,531 from the Blue/White, especially when the kikuyu is in the softer/wetter conditions it‘s in now. Conditions are especially tough from the Red tees (6,098) - the women don’t get many breaks here in terms of leveling out the distance.
