Played Saturday, March 12 with buddy who is a member, my wife, and another friend. Tee'd off at 11:30am and got around in about 4:15 riding, and it was cart path only because of the rain the night before. We were never pushed, just took our time and enjoyed the course. You have the option of walking and carrying your bag, or riding in a cart. No push carts allowed. It is definitely walkable, but there are some hills, and some decent distance between a couple of the holes.

The conditions are absolutely phenomenal. The fairways are like carpet, and the rough is the most consistent I have ever seen (with the exception of Torrey Pines during the Farmers.) Now for the details...

Tee boxes: Absolutely perfect. Lush, green and perfectly flat.

Fairways: 10 out of 10. An absolute joy to hit from. They double cut the fairways so the ball sits up beautifully. Almost all divots were filled with mix.

Greens: 9 out of 10. The greens were running about 12 on the stimp, but held well struck shots without a problem. As the day wore on, they started to bump up a bit. I did have a couple of putts bounce off line. They're about to punch, so they'll be much smoother soon.

Practice: They have a nice grass range with pyramids of balls waiting. Lots of targets to hit to. There is a large chipping green with room to hit 40 yrd shots, as well as two beautiful bunkers. The putting green is massive, with lots of undulation. I love the fact they cut in a few of the smaller sized cups for practice.

Service: Great service and staff at Valencia CC. They have a snack bar that takes cash. Food is good, and not too expensive. We must've seen the cart girl 10 times on the course. Clubs cleaned and taken to valet after the round.

I could definitely get used to golf like this. A well designed course in perfect condition. All the amenities a golfer could want...at your fingertips.

Played 8/22 with Queen Wedge & Woods and was very disappointed to see how bad the condition of one of my favorite tracks has become in such short time. The new owners are spending $$ to repair the cart paths but tee to green the course is in the worst shape I have seen in the 20 + years that I have played there.

We were wondering if this was done by the previous management company since they lost the contract after new owners took over from CNL ?

So many dead spots on the fairways and around all the greens I hate to say this but many of the muni's I play are in better condition than my beloved Valencia at this time.

It also looks the membership is not helping the situation with many divots not being filled and not repairing ball marks on the greens.

The tee boxes were 6 out of 10.

Fairways 4 out 10

Rough 5 out 10

Greens 7 out of 10 rolling about 8 - 9 on stimp meter. The greens were very slow for this course which roll around 10 - 13 just couple of months ago.

It has been only two months since I last played at big V and I was shocked to see how quickly the condition of the course has declined.

If you get chance to play here do it but play lift, clean and place so you can enjoy the round.

Played here on Monday, July 20, 2015, with the SCGA casual outing. It was a 9:00 a.m. shotgun with 7:30 registration. The snack bar, range, and practice green were available for us. It was cart path only due to heavy tropical rains in the two or three days prior. That said, I found the greens to be somewhat slower than normal. It turned out good for me as I was able to make a lot of putts. There were very few wet areas throughout the course. The rough was cut down to about an inch to an inch and a half, maybe two inches in some areas in the trees. A couple of times all four of us were hunting for errant tee shots in the tree line. Overall, the course played great. I found the greens to be receptive, the fairways nice, and tees flat. Great to play with fellow GKers Tony, Steve, and Mike.

Played 6/29 for a SCGA outing. Let me say this first, it was HOT and HUMID today so the enjoyment factor was rather low especially with the slow group in front. Tees were great, fairways and greens were okay but I agree with the last review about the many patchy areas. I have played here many times and never remember it playing as tough as this time. The rough was too long (when you have trouble finding your ball just off the fairway), the greens were smooth but did have signs of a fungus, and around the greens were scrappy which made chipping tough. I love the course but maybe the 105 temps got to all of us.

Played 6/7 with Queen of Wedge & Wood, Clutch and Bueno course conditions continue to decline with fungus on some fairways and greens.

Looks like Fore Golf management has stopped putting effort into keeping the course maintained at premium level.

Tee boxes were level with no bare spots. Fairways on some holes have fungus while other holes had dead spots , hard pan areas. Very disappointing to see them in this poor shape.

Around the greens another type of grass is taking over.

Bunkers were hard and crusty looks like they have not been maintained for while.

Putting greens also had fungus on some holes but were smooth and rolled true with very few un - repaired marks.

PoP was 4 hours.

The membership is probably upset with the current course condition as I am. This track has always been my favorite but very sad to see how Fore Golf has mismanaged this gem.

Played with Queen of Wedge - Wood, Clutch & Dbl. D on 5/3. They are preparing the course for US Open sectional qualifier in couple of weeks. The rough was high and thick, the fairways are in great shape lush with nice lies. The greens were on the shaggy side like they had not been cut in day or two, rolling around 6 -7. tee boxes in good shape with little or no damage. Bunkers had not been maintained and had hard crust on surface.

Big V will always be one of my top 5 courses , if you get chance to play here do it well worth the $$.

Played on Monday 2/5 in an SCGA member outing. Conditions of the course were outstanding but not as good as I have seen it the past. Fairways were a pleasure to hit from, lush and tight yet soft to get under the ball. There were some thin areas most notably on the tee boxes. Bunkers were both visually pleasing with white sand and all perfectly raked with plenty of sand. Greens were fast and pure and always the best part of the course, soft enough to hold a well struck shot but extremely fast. The layout is fantastic with a wide variety of shots and no 2 holes alike. I love playing here and will play every time the opportunity presents. In my opinion, one of the best and most fun golf courses in SoCal

Played on 1/5/15 with Queen Wedge & Woods. Tee boxes level and in good shape with fairways thin or dead on some holes and others in very good shape. Rough was 1 - 3 inches with bunkers in good shape with plenty of sand. The greens were rolling 10.5 - 11.5 smooth with no un-repaired ball mark's. I wish I could play every round on these greens they are amazing.

Saw the G.M. with head greens keeper going over each hole on back nine working to the course back to it's legendary condition.

This track will always be in my top five.

Got the chance to play here for the first time in a tourney Monday. Overall, things were pretty immaculate as you might imagine. If I was splitting hairs I would say there was the (very) occasional bare spot in the fairways or on a tee box that didn't get much light, but that would be a very picky review if I did. Overall, everything was very lush and green. Sand was pro-quality, containing the nice, white marble-ized stuff.

Absolute highlight were the greens which were maybe the best I have ever played in Socal. They had barely a blade of grass out of place and ran true and extremely quick! Yet they were receptive to a well-struck and well-directed approach. Takes a while to adjust to the quality of surfaces like these but when you do you scare the hole quite a bit.

And that brings me to my main point about courses like this. Sure, it's a privilege to play them, but I think they illustrate how much quality conditions (or their lack) influence play. The fairways here run fast even though they are green so you get good position and distance off the tee on well-struck shots. I easily got 20 yards more on my good ones. Then, if you do get into trouble, the sand and rough around the greens is very conducive to recovery shots if you have decent short game smarts. (I remember reading a newspaper article where a reporter took Steve Marino out to his local muni to see if he would totally destroy it, but he could (only!) muster a 68. When asked why he explained that he could never go real low because although the course was short and easy for him, it negated his short game (aka scoring) advantage because he couldn't control the spin off the marginal fairways, couldn't predict the outcome splashing out of the sand or chipping around the fringes, and couldn't putt aggressively with the slow and uneven green speeds. Oh, and he couldn't figure out why the groundskeeper kept mowing while he was in his back swing.)

Although I don't have the budget to prove this theory, point is that I think great conditioning rewards decent technique. Oh well.

On a final note, course is a traditional style layout. Although it is heavily tree-lined, I found it to be fairly generous off the tee, and not overly long at all with many shorter holes. Most of the defense came in the form of large, highly undulated and well-bunkered greens. If you didn't land in the right section multi-putts became highly likely. Front nine has more variety and uniqueness than the back, which plays more back and forth across the same, flat terrain. I would get bored playing 10-18 a lot. But if you get the chance - go! And enjoy putting the way it's supposed to be!
