Had the opportunity to Valencia Country Club. We had a pretty big group out there for a 9am shotgun with the course pretty much all to ourselves. What a treat!!! Great course in all aspects, layout, condition, facilities and challenge. No two holes the same with features to challenge every aspect of your game. I've heard its often ranked one of the best in the state and from my experience, its hard to argue.

Played today (Monday) with a rather large group from Meetup.com/LA Golf Group. Many thanks to Darryl Gordon who set this up. We were a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. out in front of a prospective members shotgun, so conditions were pristine. Double cut fairways and greens, great tee boxes, and extremely lush and thick rough made for a challenging day. Sand in the bunkers was excellent: white, soft, and well-raked. Before the round there were balls on the range and a great short game practice chipping green. The large practice putting green was a good representation of the greens speed on the course. Great customer service at the pro shop and the cart barn.

Got the opportunity to play "Big V" this morning with some of the LAGG guys. We teed off at 9am as a shotgun. My group was first off on 1st tee. Nobody in front of us, so we had an ideal pace at just over 4 hours. What a great course on all levels. Conditions were excellent. The layout is fantastic. And, though services/staff were minimal on a Monday, they treated us well. $65 included a sleeve of Callaway logo balls and the experience was worth every penny. The course was lush and green all the way through. The fairways were awesome and the cuts of rough were nicely manicured. The second cut was thick and tough to hit from. If the greens were aerated 3/19 as it states in the GK alert, there is virtually no remnants of that maintenance. Greens were just about perfect. Soft and receptive, but fast and smooth on top. Bunkers full of nice sand and tee boxes great. Though it thoroughly kicked my butt, I enjoyed the course immensely. Tough from the blue tees (6,700+ yards) with a lot of tight doglegs, a good amount of water and many, many trees to force difficult angles. Almost every green is slightly elevated and well protected by bunkers and false front edges. Tricky greens with lots of undulation and hard-to-read breaks. Great RTJ Sr. design! Special thanks to Darryl for setting this up with the course and Tony for organizing everything within our group.

Big-V, as I used to call it years ago when it was open to the public. Now, Valencia Country Club. What a course it is and the members for VCC should feel fortunate. Played Monday with kviser, Fear and a member of the club named Jim. Great time on a picture perfect day in February. The course was, as expected in fantastic condition. The greens were fast (although I’ve seen them much faster), smooth and held shots beautifully. It always amazing me how so many courses have issue with poa greens but every high end course I play that has poa greens are some of the best putting surfaces. The fairways were lush and groomed. The Rough was cut down to about 1 to 2 inches and a non-factor. The sand was perfection. The tee boxes level, cut tight and well maintained. Valencia Country Club is a very fun course to play. You have ample room to find the fairway off the tee but at the same time you need to be able to work the ball (mostly left to right) to avoid the huge mature trees on some holes. It’s a long course and almost all the greens are elevated so that makes it even longer. We played the White Tees at 6305 and I’m glad we did not step back to the Blues. Since I played the course years ago they had switched the 9’s in order to better accommodate the LA Open one year and Senior Tour events. To me the former back 9 is the better nine. More beautiful with small lakes abound and interesting. But back 9 now is more challenging with an excellent long par 5 finishing hole. This is truly a strong test of golf. You need to be doing all things well to score. The greens have many undulations, steep bunkers, greenside water hazards. The fairways are all tree lined. The rough is normally deep. And of course the layout is long. It’s a super course that if you get an opportunity to play – play it! * I posted a full spread of photos of its layout.

Played today with JohnnyGK and Fear. We got a chance to play here with a member. Fantastic conditions all around. The range was great; all grass, nicely mowed, pyramids of balls, and nice targets to hit to. There is a chipping green with a bunker near the range. The practice putting green is huge and gives you an idea of how fast the greens are; let me tell you, they are fast. I believe they are a classic bent/poa mix. They roll great. Tees, fairways, and rough are in pristine shape. The sand in every bunker was also in stellar condition: light, white, and professionally raked. This course is everything you would expect from a private country club. Like previous reviewers have stated, if you get the chance to play here, do so.

Our threesome set out on 12/8/12 @ 11:15. There are a couple of things you need to expect before playing here. 1) If you play from the tips be prepared for a long day. We played from the tips - and here's a warning - if you aren't very confident in your ability, don't play from back there. The course is long, tree-lined, beautiful and challenging. The facilities are awesome, driving range is great, greens are very fast and true. Lots of hills so you'll be hitting off side, down and uphill lies all day if you aren't straight. If you go into the rough with your tee shot and it's near some trees (which it probably will be) KEEP A SHARP EYE on it because the rough is thick, lots of leaves on the ground, it's easy to lose your ball. The other thing you need to know is the LONG par 3's to be prepared for. Break out the hybrid (or even the 3 wood) on the range and practice hitting spots because there are some big 3's on this course. In conclusion, PLAY HERE IF YOU CAN. It's awesome. I'm a 14 hdcp and I shot a 105. This course kicked me right in the face and then stole my lunch money but I like a challenge so maybe that's just me. Have fun! Don't say I didn't warn you..

Got to play the course through an SCGA outing. It was everything I thought it would be and more. From tee to green, course was in top shape. Greens were smooth and rolling fast. Fairways and tee boxes were great. For $85, it was well worth it. I would definitely play it again.

Once again, I have been treated to a late afternoon round at this private club. Looks like some work being done on the 10th tee, perhaps elevating and extending it. This course is consistently in great shape. Immaculate fairways, rough, and greens throughout. It can be brutal if you miss the fairways as the rough is thick and there are trees aplenty.
