Played in an SCGA outing here for my second time in many years. I remember Valencia from the time the Los Angeles Open was played here (walking the course) and the time I played it a few years after. I remember being impressed with the course.

Valencia didn't disappoint - comparatively to the other private courses I've played as part of the SCGA - it's one of the cheapest and one of the best. A round here alone is worth the SCGA membership fee and the $85 they charged to play here on a Monday.

The fairways are pale green grass over a hardish ground and a well hit drive will roll out - surrounding them the rough is deep green and lush but easily playable. Greens are tricky, smooth and medium fast. Traps are nothing spectacular but I appreciated that they had the perfect amount of sand that lends itself to a decent bunker shot.

The layout is rolling, scenic and varied. Holes all have character and never felt overly punitive (maybe some parts of the greens where the ball will not stay) nor easy. The kind of course where par is difficult but a bogey feels reasonably easy for any hole. Can't wait to come back.

I had not played "Big-V" since October 1988, so was very excited to play again. Always a stern test, so I knew I'd have to play well to post a decent number. Well, that didn't happen! Probably the worst ball striking round of golf I've had in ten years. I was awful ! Since I only hit a handful of fairways, I spent the majority of my round trying to find my ball in the rough, which had lots of leaves, making it nearly impossible to find it. I could go on about how crappy I played, but despite that, the course was everything I remembered,

Great condition ! Very tough greens, just like I remember. Thankfully I could still putt today or I would have shot a million. Fairways, bunkers, rough, everything was in pristine condition. Terrific course, but still and playable.

Staff was very nice. Despite my poor play and time spend hunting for my errant drives, our foursome finished in just under four hours, which would have been quicker but for the twosome in front of us ? Really enjoyed playing on a breezy warm autumn day. Could have been perfect, but for my lack of skills today

Played here today with a 10 am tee time in 110 degree heat! I have played here many times and have seen the course in much better shape. The great: The fairways and pace of play were excellent . Lies in fairways were great and we finished in 4.5 hours with no waiting. The good: The greens were smooth and soft which held shots well however they were a bit slow for a course of this caliber. The traps were mostly good with only a few with hard pan. The tee boxes were mostly level with nice grass. The bad: The rough is extremely penalizing. Balls were hard to find just off the fairways which made the round longer and frustrating. The "real bad": The course is resodding and doing a lot of maintenance. Hole 2 was closed so we had to play a hole twice to play 18 and 10 holes were cart path only!!! In 110 degree heat that was brutal to us. As I said, the course has been in much better shape but they are trending in the right direction. The $80 we paid was okay but I think a little pricey for here. We will definitely be coming back in the future!

Played today, 6/4/17, on a warm day. The course is absolutely stunning. Trees are everywhere and punish you if you hit wayward shots. That being said, they still leave you with a shot that can make your round. The trees provide shade that no other course in the area can provide as this is a 50+ year old course.

The rough is thick while the greens are undulating, true and quick. The bunkers look like they had been redone in the past few years as they played fantastically with a nice white sandy color.

Overall this is a top tier course. POP was 4 hours mid-day on a Sunday!

Rode with Queen of WedgeWood on 2/24/17. The course has been abused and mis managed over the past few years but I'm happy to report that the course has recovered and in great shape.

Most tee boxes are level and lush with only couple having unfilled divots.

The rough was lush due to the heavy rains and penal but fair.

Greens are lush , fast and were holding approach shots. There were several greens that the collars were replaced and they were still growing in and seams between collars and greens could effect your shots.

P.O.P. was under 4 hrs on busy Friday afternoon which I think is pretty good.

Valencia has made it back into my top 5 courses to play in So. CA and I'm glad that it has. In my humble opinion this is one of the best tracks around , I could play here everyday.

I had the great opportunity to play this course yesterday. Went out around 130 and played in about 4 hours. Course was in good shape, they were doing some maintenance to a couple of greens on the back nine. For the most part I thought this was a fun course. It's pretty open and lots of room for mis-hits. Tee boxes were level and good coverage. Fairways were green with a little brown but never had a bad place to hit from. Greens were soft and slower then expected. Sand was nice and had good coverage. Overall a fun course that I hope I get the chance to play again.

Here's another first time around for me to play- Valencia Country Club is class A++ to me. There are some really cool members there and their facilities are pretty cool. Their practice area and the driving range is very good.

The course is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design as many of you already know and the course was built before there were anything around it. This course layout is great!

As for the course condition or playing condition, all I can say is they have the ideal course condition in all aspect of the course. I'd give them the highest number possible. Their greens are very undulated, but the greens aren't lightning fast- which is a great combination to have for regular play and also good maintenance. The fairways are great. The greenside bunkers- the sand quality and its condition is amazingly good- it almost makes me not mind getting in. The roughs are healthy and heavy... you need to muscle it out. After some good rain and fertilizer and a bit of warm sunshine...man-o-man... are they just pretty to look at. Their teeing grounds are perfect. I've really enjoyed this place.

They also have a beverage cart on the course which was nice.

Hope to get on again...soon!

FYI: The course is scheduled to aerate next week: March 28.

Played Saturday, March 12 with buddy who is a member, my wife, and another friend. Tee'd off at 11:30am and got around in about 4:15 riding, and it was cart path only because of the rain the night before. We were never pushed, just took our time and enjoyed the course. You have the option of walking and carrying your bag, or riding in a cart. No push carts allowed. It is definitely walkable, but there are some hills, and some decent distance between a couple of the holes.

The conditions are absolutely phenomenal. The fairways are like carpet, and the rough is the most consistent I have ever seen (with the exception of Torrey Pines during the Farmers.) Now for the details...

Tee boxes: Absolutely perfect. Lush, green and perfectly flat.

Fairways: 10 out of 10. An absolute joy to hit from. They double cut the fairways so the ball sits up beautifully. Almost all divots were filled with mix.

Greens: 9 out of 10. The greens were running about 12 on the stimp, but held well struck shots without a problem. As the day wore on, they started to bump up a bit. I did have a couple of putts bounce off line. They're about to punch, so they'll be much smoother soon.

Practice: They have a nice grass range with pyramids of balls waiting. Lots of targets to hit to. There is a large chipping green with room to hit 40 yrd shots, as well as two beautiful bunkers. The putting green is massive, with lots of undulation. I love the fact they cut in a few of the smaller sized cups for practice.

Service: Great service and staff at Valencia CC. They have a snack bar that takes cash. Food is good, and not too expensive. We must've seen the cart girl 10 times on the course. Clubs cleaned and taken to valet after the round.

I could definitely get used to golf like this. A well designed course in perfect condition. All the amenities a golfer could want...at your fingertips.

Played 8/22 with Queen Wedge & Woods and was very disappointed to see how bad the condition of one of my favorite tracks has become in such short time. The new owners are spending $$ to repair the cart paths but tee to green the course is in the worst shape I have seen in the 20 + years that I have played there.

We were wondering if this was done by the previous management company since they lost the contract after new owners took over from CNL ?

So many dead spots on the fairways and around all the greens I hate to say this but many of the muni's I play are in better condition than my beloved Valencia at this time.

It also looks the membership is not helping the situation with many divots not being filled and not repairing ball marks on the greens.

The tee boxes were 6 out of 10.

Fairways 4 out 10

Rough 5 out 10

Greens 7 out of 10 rolling about 8 - 9 on stimp meter. The greens were very slow for this course which roll around 10 - 13 just couple of months ago.

It has been only two months since I last played at big V and I was shocked to see how quickly the condition of the course has declined.

If you get chance to play here do it but play lift, clean and place so you can enjoy the round.
