Enjoyed an excellent Outing at VCC with excellent playing partners!

I can best describe VCC as a fun Players Course. This course really kept you in check, but was never unreasonable. The layout was excellent! Reminded me of Riviera CC at times. I can see why the PGA Tour played here once upon a time.

VCC is a very well-designed course that places premium on accuracy off the tee and into greens. The course features clear definition between its mid-sized fairways and rough areas, well placed bunkering on fairways and proximate to greens, along with some strategic water hazards, with medium sized and reasonably fast greens.

The course is mostly flat, at times undulating, and sometimes with mild elevation changes from fairway to green, and offers some attractive views of localized mountains.

The course plays like a Championship Style layout. You will need to work the ball in both directions at times. Wind speeds were calm, peaking at 5 -15 mph when gusting. The course seemed to play it's yardage for the most part. The course was very well manicured and in excellent condition. The course layout is rated a 4.5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.3 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Above average condition.

Fairways: Green at times tight. Excellent condition.

Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, with medium softness. No damage observed. Speed about a 10.5. Excellent condition.

Sand: Well maintained, heavy, and firm. Above average condition.

Rough: rough was well defined from the fairway and green collars but not too overgrown, about 2 – 5 inches. Above average condition.

Waste Areas: Waste areas on various holes did not offer much opportunity of recovery due to their overgrown nature. Above average.

Driving Range: The range is excellent, hitting from artificial turf. You see markers at 100, 150, 200, 225, and 250 yards. Range ran out at about 300ish. Range balls were your typical rangers, but in very good condition.

Chipping Area: Compact in size and included a practice bunker. Condition and features were excellent.

Practice Putting Green: Ample in size and very well maintained. Practice greens seemed consistent with the speed of the course greens. Excellent condition.

POP: Just under 5 hours.

The VCC facility included a snack bar / restaurant, and a very nicely stocked pro shop. Service received was excellent. If looking to join a quality golf club with the emphasis on golf this is a really good one. Really enjoyed this course. I endorse playing this track if given the opportunity. Looking forward to my next visit here.

Rode the blues this morning in the Gk/Golfmoose outing with a POP of 4 hours 40 minutes under hot/humid 95 degree conditions. We had a nice 15mph swirling wind that made it tolerable to play in the heat. Joined by buddies Johnny,Ron and Mark. This for sure is a Bermuda based summer course with lush Fairways today, Bermuda rough that didn't look thick but your ball could nestle down. Fairway rating 8/10. Rough rating 8/10 Greens were very healthy looking and were soft and on the slower side rolling around a 9 on the stimp. They held irons and chips like darts and putted fairly pure and slow. Rated 8/10 Was in 2 Fairway bunkers and 2 greenside bunkers that were in great shape with thick sand. Rated 8.5/10 Tees level, firm and lush. Just love this layout and seem to play well here in spite of the longer tough par 3s with forced water carries. Recommend!

Played in The Moose event on 2.26.24 with fellow gkers Gary, Mark and Mark. The weather was held it together until the end. Tee boxes were outline by the overseed but had numerous divots between the markers. Fairways were in decent shape despite all the rain this season. Rough was playable aside from a few thick spots. Greens were in great shape. Seem to be rolling well. 7/10.

Rode the blues this morning 2/26/24 as part of the GK/Golfmoose joined by awesome guys Marc, Mark and Mark. First time in my golfing career I remembered all 3 names the whole day. Weather was ideal for golf the first 15 holes and then we had a very light rain on 16,17 and 18. Pop moved pretty good considering the shotgun over 100 player start. I love the layout of the course with 2 long par 4s , 3 challenging par 3s and several shorter strategic par 4s that bend both ways. Most holes favor a slight fade off the tee. Very strategic architect here who places many fairway bunkers in the landing areas anywhere from 260 to 290ish off the tee. Course also has some very severe undulating greens that are a challenge. Greens were the highlight of the course. Very smooth and quick putting wise. They held irons from the fairways very well but were firmer on chips around the green complexes. Rated solid 8.5/10 Fairways provided a firmer semi lush Bermuda base. Some areas of mud and trouble areas but would say 80% of the fairways were in good shape. Rated 7/10 Tees were level and very firm and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10 Was not in any bunkers but they looked well stocked with nice beach sand. Mark(Itslikeimsayin) showed us all his awesome bunker play today. Rough was cut low in most spots just off the fairways but there were areas on the course where it looked lusher. Rated 7/10 What the course really needs to work on are the chipping areas in front of many greens which were muddy, thin and tight. Not up to standard for a private course but with all the rain we have been having I can see these areas on this course being really affected by water run off from the raised greens. If I lived in the Valencia area this would be the course I would join. Would never get tired playing this awesome layout. Recommended.

Played here today in the GK/Golf Moose outing in group 1A with Mark, Marc, and Gary. (Easiest playing partner names to remember ever for Gary today – three Marks!) Pace was good and despite some rain on the last few holes, it was just a bit over 4.5 hours.

Conditions are pretty good for a course that doesn't overseed in winter, but not quite as nice as last July's outing. Greens are very nice, smooth, medium-fast, and quite firm, although full shots and chips with lots of spin would still bite. Fairways are dormant bermuda with green colorant, providing mostly good lies for full shots but tight lies for chips short of the greens. Rough is dormant bermuda a couple inches deep, not too penal and sometimes almost preferred to the tight lies of the fairways. Blue tee boxes were all nice. Bunkers were fantastic and I had my best bunker playing round in years using Johnny's demo set of Vivid wedges. (Gotta get me one of those 56s.)

Dreary skies never really let the course come to life visually today, but we still had a good time. Thanks Johnny and Golf Moose for these awesome opportunities to play some very nice courses!

Great time on 7/17 teeing up with Itslikeimsayin and rgm2525 at recently returfed/renovated Valencia CC for a Golf Moose/Greenskeeper.org private course event. Alex326 was supposed to complete the foursome but had an unexpected work assignment cancel his plans. Alex you missed a good one. Next time.

I posted a lot of photos here and I’m going to do some before and after pics on social media. Part of the renovation was considerable tree removal which did lesson some of the challenge off tee. However the new bunkers I can only equate to a Riviera or Hacienda CC certainly raised the challenge level in that department. Regarding the new bermunda turf, it was very lush which was a relief considering some of previous reviews posted from the SCGA tournament earlier this year which was played in the winter and prior to the new bermunda turf having a Spring/Summer to establish itself. Well done Valencia CC. The turf conditions are outstanding now and should only get better.

From an organizer standpoint, Valencia CC is an excellent facility to have a golf tournament. With exception to the driving range being a long walk from the clubhouse (shuttle service provided) the staging area features easy access to the clubhouse facilities, snack bar, practice putting, golf carts and both the 1st and 10th tee box. Staff very professional and friendly to work with from the moment you book the event to the following up after. I’m already looking into another outing for 2024. Play this course any chance you get!

Played 7-17-23 in the GM/GK outing with a 10am shotgun start, finishing in a little over 5 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, level, cut tight, and minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in real good shape with some minor dry spots, they had real good lies and good roll out. Rough was playing between 1-3 inches and in nice condition. Was in a few bunkers that all had a good layer of nice white sand. Greens were in really good condition, playing semi-soft and rolling true but a little slow for my tastes. Overall real good conditions.
