Played here this afternoon. Found a good deal on ezlinks for $23 and figured I'd give it a shot. It wasn't too busy when I got there ahead of my 12:45 time, so I headed out a few minutes early by myself starting on the River nine. It was great for the first 6 holes and then caught up to all the groups. Joined up with the single ahead of me and it was very slow going after that. Front nine about 1:45 and back nine over 2:30 with 5 groups waiting to tee off on the 10th (Pine #1). Not as bad as it seemed. Since I was there and could see it wasn't crowded on the Mountain nine, I went ahead and played it as a replay for only $8.25 (cart still included) and zipped through that one pretty quickly. The course was actually in pretty good shape, much better than I would have expected. Pretty lush, thick kikuyu throughout fairways and rough. Bad, ugly patches here and there, but mostly green and nice. Tee boxes were pretty lumpy and not too level, but grass was pretty good on them for the most part. The greens were in great shape. Some unrepaired ball marks, but not as bad as some county courses get with so much play. The bunkers were pretty thin and could definitely use some more sand, but playable. I enjoyed the course more than expected. It's nothing too exciting or special and I won't be in any rush to come back, but not quite as boring as others have made it sound. Very wide open fairways. Flat terrain, but a lot of little humps and bumps, so not as many flat easy lies as you think. River nine greens pretty easy to get at, but Pine greens are a little more interesting and protected by some bigger bunkers. Mountain greens are tiny. The River/Pine combo plays quite long at over 6800 yards from the blue tees and the fluffy/sticky kikuyu means not a lot of roll out on drives, so it plays even longer than the scorecard suggests. In addition to red tees for the ladies, there are two sets of forward tees for men (white and gold). However, on EVERY tee box, the blues, whites and gold are really close to one another. There seems to be no significant advantage to playing up as I normally would.

It's a good course to get comfortable with your longer shots, but I don't think I would ever go back. Not that the course was in that bad of shape -- well some tee boxes weren't great -- but I felt like I was playing the same hole every time. I think there was one dog leg.

Sand traps were filled with cement mixer, no fried eggs here.

POP was very slow.

Played all 27 holes on 4/18/13. Have to say, the the 9 hole Mountain course was in the best shape. The tee boxes were severely uneven, the fairways were in pretty good shape and the bunkers were average. The greens were in really bad shape, even though they were just aerated, the greens were severely diseased and slow. Customer service was a lot better than the last time I played there. The starter was very helpful and got us out on the course as soon as we were ready. The course ambassador/marshal needs to do a better job of watching the course, as a rather obesely overweight guy kept driving his cart RIGHT UP TO THE EDGE of the greens.

Played early Saturday morning as a foursome. Played behind a fivesome but they moved fast and we finished in about 4.5 hours which is very good for this course on a weekend.

Played early Saturday morning as a foursome. Played behind a fivesome but they moved fast and we finished in about 4.5 hours which is very good for this course on a weekend.

The greens were punched recently and still sandy and very slow, but in my unprofessional opinion, seemed to be recovering well. The fairways and rough were lush and tee boxes were fairly level with plenty of grass. The bunkers which are usually nice and fluffy here, were inconsistent, wet (not sure why), and just not enough sand.

Teed off at 11AM on a Thursday. The course wasn't too busy with scattered 3/4somes. My friend and I were able to finish in slightly over 3 hours with 2 groups nice enough to let us play through. The bunkers were the nicest I've seen on this course as they must have gotten new sand for the new year. Greens were slow with some unfixed divots but overall acceptable and expected. Some of the tee boxes were slightly uneven and bare - definitely has seen better tee box conditions at Whittier.

12/22/2012 dropped wife off in Montebello for tamale making. On tee box at 11:30a with a 2 some. Had to wait for 2 groups in front of us at tee. 2-3 groups on every hole but didn't mind as I expected a busy course. Not used to the bumpy cart ride on the fairways...my back. Enjoyed the wide open fairways, hit driver every par 4 and 5. Small greens a little bumpy. Even though I quit after 15 holes, I would do it again. Paid $48 for green/cart. I was a minority amongst the golf loving Asians. As expected a typical busy weekend afternoon on a muni course.

Played yesterday. Teed off a little before 11:30, had to run the last two holes to finish before it was pitch black. 6 hour round. Myself and my playing partner were the only non-Koreans there. Every group was a 5-some, nobody fixed ball marks or raked bunkers, divots were not sanded...in short, this wasn't a good experience. The twosome we got paired with was Korean as well, and they were very nice and had wonderful golf etiquette, so that helped the day move along. The course conditions were good, save the lack of care from the players. Tee boxes were level, fairways were a bit long so no roll, rough was brutal, greens got really bumpy as the day progressed, bunkers had adequate sand. No water hazards on the course, and no holes with any character to speak of, just straightforward golf. I would like this course as a confidence builder, but I can't recommend weekend play after what I experienced. Maybe weekdays are better.

Went out as a foursome last thursday morning. Was bloody hot out so course was pretty quiet. We finished in about 4 hours which is unheard of at this place even during weekdays. For the price, it is decent and I always enjoy this place because its so wide and open. But they have tiny greens so good score isn't necessarily easy.

One complaint I have though is that they cut the grass way too long. Its hard to find balls in the rough sometimes. Anyhow, the course was in decent shape. One sand I was in was nice and fluffy (perhaps too fluffy since it was buried). 10th hole had the wrong flag so that was kinda frustrating. Fairways were lush and didn't see any bare spots. Tee boxes didn't have too many divots and were nice and level.

But anytime I can play with buddies on a weekday is a big thumb up.

Golfed here June 7th. For the price a good deal. Fairways not dried out yet good roll. Greens were good. Not too bad of a track for the money. played as a twosome of 2 golfers and was not crowded. played the first nine in an hour and a half. However we caught the groups in front of us by the 8th hole. The back 9 took us over 2 1/2 hrs. 5-somes are allowed and we had to wait 5-10 min on every shot. The foursome in front of us had to wait on the fivesome ahead of them every shot. The foursome offered to let us pass them on #10 but we declined because if the 5 some would not allow the foursome to pass, then they were probably not going to let us through either. Marshall could have picked up the pace but did not. Overall not bad for 4 hrs though. Started at 815 and finished by 1240. Not bad. Wished we could have finished in 3 1/2 though.
