Played here 8/17 and 8/19. Overall, good to very good condition, but a little trouble with ball marks (repaired and not repaired) on the greens. Seems some of the early morning repair crews are not consistently working this part of the course, and maybe more importantly, players don't seem to repair their own. I can usually find at least 3-5 in need of repair whenever I play. Disappointing there are so many players here who ignore the requests of the staff (reminders on carts, on GPS, etc) to repair one, plus one. It should be a concerted effort, not just here, but everywhere. Fairways are improving, with only a few spots of GUR remaining and overall, in much better condition this summer year over year. A little inconsistent in bunkers (some thin, others perfect, and still others which are tough to read), but no real serious issues. Lots of elevation changes, and very few flat lies in fairway or on the greens. A good challenge throughout, but good scores are there for those that play the appropriate tee box. Great staff and service inside and out, good practice areas (including new mats, when not hitting from grass on the range) and one of the best 19th hole patio settings anywhere.

It's been a couple of years since I last played here. Conditioning has improved. First off so pace of play not an issue. Staff was wonderful.

Much better conditions than last December for a tournament round in the late morning on Saturday 6/7/14. Sunny and warm without a lot of wind. Got out on time, but the difficulty of this course, especially the greens, slows the pace - we went around in just under 5 hrs.

Greens and fairways were much improved since last winter, with plenty of grass, only a few thin/bare spots in the fairways, and all looked very good. Greens were very firm and held only high shots, but rolled at medium-fast speed, nowhere near how slick they've been in the past. Rough varied depending on where you were, and could be lush and full or thin and sparse. Pro said, like most other courses in SoCal, water supply issues are impacting maintenance and operations.

Sand traps need attention - most has a very damp and firm base with only a thin veneer of sand. Tees were generally good and level, with par-3 tees being a little torn up as usual.

Cart girl and player assistants need some instruction on when and how to drive through holes and not disrupt play. Staff was great at setting up and operating tourneys and guests.

The greens on this course are an especially difficult test, with lots of crowns, speedy slopes, and runoffs. You have to stay in good position and putt from below the hole to be comfortable and avoid disasters. My putting game is not up to this challenge, so BG always frustrates me. Still recommended.

Fairways: still needs time.. I understand they are in transition but this course fairway has been an issue for let few yrs already.
Greens: some greens need some attention not only from ballparks but few bare spots on few holes.
A year ago this course was low 7pt to high 6pt rated course on GKeeper site… now its mid to high 5's. Players and participants don't lie. Its great track by design, hope management can bring the condition back.

Played here on 5/9. Conditions improving. Greens are very good to excellent. Smooth, fast, and firm. Fairways have spots in need of care and those spots are being attended to. Overall, fairways, while inconsistent, and getting better. Sand bunks were very good. Right amount of sand. Great service inside and out. I believe overall conditions are better than some of the other recent reviews would indicate. Always good value available with a little internet research. Enjoy the 19th hole, great patio overlooking #18 green.

Greens are so fun and yet so difficult to read. Medium to fast - not sure if it was just me but there were a few greens that were off and i could not figure out the speed and break. Condition on greens are pretty good. not much unrepaired ball marks (maybe because also of the greens being firm and no ball marks made!lol)
the rough was inconsistent as you can have clumps of grass in some areas, and others none. Lots of ground under repair and bare areas on the fairways. Tee ground was decent.

Staff for the most part was great. We had a hitch on the turn as there was no one in the snack bar even after we preordered food.
No marshalls seen but the pace was moving along quite well so it didnt matter.

Black Gold is such a pain in the A$$ to play well and add the wind factor- becomes almost impossible for me to score well. And yet I come back for more.
It was a fun day to play and we were paired with a 2some that we had fun playing with.
While I still dont think it is worth the rack rate they normally charge, but with vouchers and coupons for $60 - definitely will be back for more.

Played BG on Thursday, what a perfect weather condition day. no wind, slight breeze around 10am. Last time I played I was very disappointed. Come to find out, they made a gamble with seeding with different grass, no rain, seed not working. NOW the new grass is coming in. Much better, but not worth the 85+ green fees.. yet.

Practice range very nice.
Customer Service - EXCELLENT
Challenging course. Need to know course and where to put the ball on the green to really score low.

Many divots in fairways and tee boxes. I tried to fill as many as I can. But another reason why $$ charged is not there yet. I can get a great shot in a divot riddled county course anytime. i come to BG NOT to have that happen.

GREENS: WOW. Fast, but if into the grain, will see a big difference. ball landed and stuck within 3' to 6' away. NICE!
In 2 months this will be really nice.

4/22/14 was my first time playing this course. It is a fun, challenging track. However, the conditions were less than ideal. While graded okay, the tee boxes were thin and sandy; heavily marked. The fairways were a combination of tufts of grass and hardpan. A solid drive center cut ended up next to a tuft of grass on an awkward lie on more than one occasion. Lots of white stakes. Greens were aerated over a month ago, but still bumpy in areas, and very thin/sandy. Approach shots didn't check at all in most cases, but would bounce high and carry off the green. The three bunkers I ended up in were thin and hard. Local to Corona, I am used to these types of courses, and I was disappointed in the conditions. They were pretty bad. I wouldn't pay even close to rack rate to play here again. Thankfully I had a 50% off groupon; I would probably say the course rack rate is worth about that. The staff however, was extremely helpful and friendly, and the carts are really nice. But the grounds need some cleaning up. Overall, still a fun outing and I would play there again - just not at full price.

Played Black Gold today, been about a year since we played here. Had a "cyber Monday special rate" and glad we did because the rack rate is definitely not worth it. Fairways are terrible. Almost like they never water them. Had to put your ball on some grass. Greens OK. Didn't hold very well but the putted nicely. Sand was alright. You could thump it. Service was very good. Everyone helpful. I like the layout. It is very challenging but as I said not worth the price unless you get a deal.
