Played this morning one of the first groups out. Been working on the game and Mesa Linda is just the ticket. This place gets a ton of play and some of the course is showing it. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up but no problem finding a place to tee it up.Fairways and rough have good coverage except for 14 and 15 (15 is roped off for the entire fairway). Bunkers are very wet with little sand and standing water in a couple tough to hit out of and thinned a couple. Greens are the strong point but many unrepaired ball marks and quite a few divots that were not repaired correctly, had a couple putts knocked offline. City championship coming up and maintenance crews getting both courses ready.

Played 4/21, teeing off a little after 10:00. The course is on the tail end of coming out or aeration with small tine holes still visible but not hurting the roll of putts. Another week and they should look fully healed. As always Costa Mesa is a hodgepodge of conditions. Tees were mostly good with a couple showing unlevel lies and a couple a bit hairy. Heavy divot damage on several, but for the most part they are HUGE so if they did a better job moving around markers this really wouldn't be a problem. Fairways are very hit an miss. #4 has a gigantic GUR area and #14 is entirely GUR. I think a couple others had large patches of thin grass/dirt so they really need to keep giving those areas some love. In comparison, #1 and #7 had really good coverage so it really depended on the hole. Rough was patchy. Some really nice spots, and some where the dominant lie was weedy clover. Pretty much as expected all in all. Apart from the aformentioned aeration holes, green were pretty good but lots of unfixed ballmarks. The greens are the first, second, and third defense of this short course so they are quite hilarious in both their shape and undulation.
$26 to walk is a good deal for a fun course even if the conditions of the fairways could and should be better. POP was right around 4.5 and the cart girl was riding around and got to us 3 or 4 times.

6:08 tee time Monday morning and there was nobody there?? I guess because they punched the greens on Los Lagos, the usual group of people waiting to play decided not to show. Could have played the "big course", but since the guy I was playing with wanted to play Mesa, we just kept our tee time.

The greens are still about a week away from being totally healed, but they putted reasonably well. Some of the pin positions today were brutal. I can not imagine if the greens were fast how difficult some of the putts could have been? Fairways had numerous bare areas, but they seem to be addressing that. Bunkers were totally unraked, so tough to gage what they could have been if maintained.

I enjoy playing this short course, because I feel many of the shots into the greens have a "high shot value". Important to leave yourself of the correct side on the approach as well and the actual shot into the green. Beautiful crisp morning. Nice easy walking pace for the two of us at a little over 2 1/2 hours.

Decided to go back to the "little course" so I could work on my wedge play. Unlike the last time I was here, there were very few people, so in retrospect I should have played Los Lagos instead. Reason: I ALWAYS call the day before to confirm there are no tournaments, shot guns, etc,. I teed off first (Still very dark) and after reaching my drive, I heard voices. Turns out there was a couple carts full of young guys all hitting wedges short of the green from the same spot. I skipped and went to #2. Then when I went to #3, I saw three carts on #4. ??? I called the pro shop and was told, "Oh, that's the OC Golf Team" I had to skip #6 to play through them and they made no gesture to wave me through ?? In addition, two singles drove out in front of me and just started playing? WTF ! I was overall disappointed in the condition of the course. The greens were the best part. They were fast and rolled true. Bunkers, which I was in several were all very good, lots of sand and well maintained. The fairways however were thin with lots of bare areas and the rough was no better. I realize it's winter, but this is worse condition I can recall.

Early morning round because I was pressed for time. Very busy! (Maybe everyone was trying to beat the heat?) Course in typical decent condition, except for the greenside bunkers, which were very compacted.

Enjoy coming out here once in a while to work on the short irons. Plus it's nice to post a low number every so often. Other than the bunkers, my only complaint is it's a little pricy for what you get

Played here on a very hot sunday last week and the ocean breezes we were conting on didnt show up at all . still pace was better than five hours and the greens were nice the san traps here need some real work as the sand seems to concrete hard. The girl working the snack bar after the 15 hole was completely lazy and should really be canned but apart from that this track is a good time and a decent test

Played 09/07/2015 - Labor Day. As could be expected the course was busy, and skill level ranged from hacker to go low handicapper. The cost of the round with cart was $35. Tee'd off at 10:30am, completed play at 3:30pm

We nearly got out early as a double, but then ended up getting out 10 minutes late due to shuffles. They were playing a number of 5somes which backed up play. Pace of play was slow, the round took almost exactly 5 hours.

My friend and I were paired with a couple of nice guys. Unfortunately one of them who was pretty good, got on himself about every shot that wasn't perfect. i.e. he grumbled through all 18 holes. Wasn't so bad expect he tee'd off first since he was playing blues and the rest of us were playing whites, so occasionally the grumbling interfered with shots from tee to green.

The course itself was in very good condition. The tee boxes were level and lush even with the number of golfers ahead. The greens likewise were in almost perfect conditions. There were a couple of dry spots, but the conditions were excellent. The first and second cut of rough around the greens were lush. There were sections of the course that were muddy and or were over watered and soggy, but not many. Really hard to lose a ball on this course.

The staff was nice, the drink cart came around twice on the front 9, not at all on the back nine, but around the 14th tee there is a snack shop that has really good chili. Great pick me up during a long round. Highly recommend the chili.

Will definitely play this course again, when I can schedule a middle of the week tee time.

Played Sunday about 1pm for a awesome rate of $30 w/cart. this is such a "make you feel a little better about your golf game" type of course. I like having the chance to scramble when I am not hitting my driver perfect. Most courses I play that is simply a lost ball, but here I have a shot. Decent track for what it is....Greens were really nice, minimal ball marks (suprising).....bunkers were not great...fairways are thin and quite a lot of bad/marked off areas...

lot of regulars come here so most folks know each other and it is cool if you get in with another 2some that knows their way around and they just tell you were to hit it and you do your best to comply.

no GPS, but course is marked pretty good. Cart gal came around often so her and the wife become fast friends.

The last couple reviews are right on the money ! Although because I was able to get off at first light, there was no issue with respect to pace of play. Agree that the greens seemed more firm than usual, but maybe because there was early AM moisture, they weren't as firm as I expected, plus because so many of the holes are short, being able to approach with more lofted clubs helps a bit.

Enjoy playing this shorter course, but still think it is over priced for what you get. I like that it does not come in after 9, so that I don't have to deal with "back nine play" like at Rancho San Joaquin, which is a nightmare with all the back nine play. Generally don't have a problem getting out because most people are looking to play Los Lagos.
