Grabbed a GolfNow deal for Friday, 18 March for $27 each x 2 at 1:53p. Played as a 3some with a nice guy from Missouri. Lot's of 2somes on the course today, POP was an amazing 4:05 hrs, even with waiting on nearly every teebox, a St. Paddy's Day surprise.

Teeboxes were pretty lush and green and mostly level. The par3 6th is on a perpetual slant, the 13th a bit crowned, but the rest are near-perfectly flat. 7/10

Fairways are recovering from fair bit of water damage. Generally green and semi-lush, many have ruts running perpendicular across them, bare spots and areas of varying grass coverage. Thin and full lies available on most holes. 5/10

Rough was cut fairly today, some tough lies, 1/2 club penal. 5/10

Was in three traps. No complaints about the quality of sand; medium-weight, with a semi-firm base. However, golfers on the day were rake-averse, and twice was in footprints. 4/10

Greens were very green, a bit soft, with some bumpy foot traffic around a number of holes. Otherwise, lots of challenging undulations and slanted putts that make this course fun. They did putt nicely, my friend had 4 birds, I had 2, and our visitor had one, as well. All were nice putts from 6-25 feet, rolling well. 6/10

A great deal today, golf course was in decent condition, on a 70-ish degree, partly cloudy day. Brilliant! Cart girl was by 2x. Greens probably due to be aerated soon.

Despite the short yardage, I always enjoy playing this course because the greens can be very challenging and even the approach shots in require some thought to leave yourself a decent putt. However today was not a positive experience! Our group had the first time, but of course a group teed off in the dark ahead of us. Not a big deal as they played at a reasonable pace and I was not in a hurry. However as we walked down the 11th fairway, we saw groups of ladies on the 13th tee. Even finishing 11 and 12, they still had not cleared the tee on 13 when we arrived. The group in front of us said "they do this all the time, so they just went over to Los Lagos. It had only taken us about 80 minutes to play the first 12 holes, it took almost 30 to play the next two holes !!! We skipped over to #15 on Los Lagos and finished the round there. (Probably saved an hour?) The course was a joke. None of the fairways have been cut in who knows how long. If you were able to avoid all the muddy areas and could find your ball, it was like hitting from US Open rough in the middle of the fairways. The course is still soaked even now? Greens were decent, but all the foot prints from the people in front were very apparent, so needless to say the greens were very soft. The worst part was the attitude in the pro shop about it when my bride complained. They could simply care less! I feel they have an obligation to inform you when you book the tee time that they will be starting a shotgun mid-course directly in front of you. They never even mentioned anything when we paid out fees. I guess once they have the $$, you're on your own.

Played Costa Mesa Mesa Linda on Monday Dec 26th. Had a 7:06 tee time and got out about 20 minutes early. We walked and POP was good at 4:15. This was the first time I played this course and I was told that is was a short course. It is a short course if you can hit 270 to 300 yards off the tee (most people think they can but .... right....) Yes there were some short holes, but again it makes you actually think out there instead of just grabbing the driver and I like that. All of the tee boxes were good, level and soft enough to get a tee into the ground. The fairways were very wet, no roll out, so the course did play longer than it should have. I was not in any bunkers either fairway or green side but my friend was and truthfully they did not look friendly. Glad I avoided them. The greens were very receptive, had to fix ball marks every hole. They rolled good, maybe a little slow because of the wetness. Since this was my first time here I must say that I enjoyed the layout and the course. It is nice to play a course where your second shot is not always a fairway wood because the course is so long. I hope to play this course more.

Put a few Vokey wedges in the bag, so wanted to play somewhere I'd have opportunities to use them. As the prior reviewer indicates, greens have almost completely healed from the punching. Fairways were still wet, so the course played longer than usual, which is not a big deal on this course. I played behind all the tee boxes, which made the course play even longer, so it turned out I didn't have as many chances to use the wedges like I'd planned for.

One of the things I like about this course is that it does not "come in" after nine, so I do not have to concern myself with "back-nine play". Plus, I there are quite a number of challenging shots into these greens, even given the shorter distance. I took me years of playing the Los Lagos course before I even considered the Mesa Linda course, but to be honest I always enjoy playing this course. I find it both fun and interesting.

Was able to grab a late $13.49 GN deal for Mesa Linda in the early afternoon, on Monday, 24th October, including cart.

Joined up with two other guys, one of whom I've played a number of rounds with there. Weather yesterday was supposed to be a 10-15% chance of rain and clearing in the afternoon, when we started at 1:00pm. Well, it started raining a bit on the 5th hole and after the 8th hole, it started pouring. We already had some lightening overhead while coming down the 7th. After waiting it out a bit, and seeing some clearing to the west, we eventually got the round in, albeit very wet, with the rain subsiding for only about 3 holes, as the clearing stayed in Huntington Beach and never really made it to the course. The course was already wet from the previous day's rain and became littered with casual water on every fairway and very soggy traps. The fairway on #14 was roped off and was a spotty sea for all 475 yards.

Given all that, I guess the main takeaways from this review is that the greens looked great and were very nice, and completely healed from the punching of 3 weeks ago. Putts rolled true, albeit a bit slower than normal even before the rain started. As the previous review noted, tee boxes have been reseeded, and we either teed from the very front or very back (both blues and white tees were together) in worn-out muddy patches, as the majority of the tee areas are still filling in. I am guessing another week or so before they re-open the tees for more full access.

One nice thing about playing here when the weather isn't great, or chance of rain (or worse, as it became), is that it does keep the major crowds away with mostly just us golf nuts venturing out. The course DOES NOT provide any rain checks after payment is made at the register for walk-ups, etc.

got out here on a friday afternoon with a friend. check in was quick and for once it was not crowded and got out right on time. many of the tees were moved all the way up, i think they were doing some reseeding as the grass was long further back on the teebox. fairways were fine, there was generally a decent lie. a few wet and muddy areas in the rough, a few patchy areas as well but not too much of a hindrance. fairway bunkers were standard hard packed, i was not in any greenside bunkers. greens had recently been aerated but played fine. a bit slow and bumpy but you will get that in the afternoon. POP was surprisingly under four hours even with a six-some (yes 6) in front of us. course plays very short with a lot of short par 4s and an extra par 3 on each side for a par of 70. a good place to practice as long as it's not too crowded out there.

Played twilight 7/29/16, got out right away at 155p. I ended up getting paired with a couple of guys getting ready for the CM city championship next weekend. Conditions as the course ramps up were pretty good. Tee boxes were even for the most part. Fairways nice, depending on where your drives ended up, there were a lot of divots in the popular landing areas. Rough pretty much non existent. Sand was ok, clumpy to fluffy with hard stuff underneath. Greens are gonna be really fast when the tourney rolls around. Right now they're rolling at a medium pace. They're really gonna ratchet this place up... Greens and rough are both gonna be so much harder.

Played this morning one of the first groups out. Been working on the game and Mesa Linda is just the ticket. This place gets a ton of play and some of the course is showing it. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up but no problem finding a place to tee it up.Fairways and rough have good coverage except for 14 and 15 (15 is roped off for the entire fairway). Bunkers are very wet with little sand and standing water in a couple tough to hit out of and thinned a couple. Greens are the strong point but many unrepaired ball marks and quite a few divots that were not repaired correctly, had a couple putts knocked offline. City championship coming up and maintenance crews getting both courses ready.

Played 4/21, teeing off a little after 10:00. The course is on the tail end of coming out or aeration with small tine holes still visible but not hurting the roll of putts. Another week and they should look fully healed. As always Costa Mesa is a hodgepodge of conditions. Tees were mostly good with a couple showing unlevel lies and a couple a bit hairy. Heavy divot damage on several, but for the most part they are HUGE so if they did a better job moving around markers this really wouldn't be a problem. Fairways are very hit an miss. #4 has a gigantic GUR area and #14 is entirely GUR. I think a couple others had large patches of thin grass/dirt so they really need to keep giving those areas some love. In comparison, #1 and #7 had really good coverage so it really depended on the hole. Rough was patchy. Some really nice spots, and some where the dominant lie was weedy clover. Pretty much as expected all in all. Apart from the aformentioned aeration holes, green were pretty good but lots of unfixed ballmarks. The greens are the first, second, and third defense of this short course so they are quite hilarious in both their shape and undulation.
$26 to walk is a good deal for a fun course even if the conditions of the fairways could and should be better. POP was right around 4.5 and the cart girl was riding around and got to us 3 or 4 times.
