Played Fri Sept 8th, had a 723 tee time and got out 15 minutes early. We walked and POP was good at 3:36, This was my second time playing this course and I must say I like the layout. You can hit driver or less on most holes and then plan your next shot, and NOT have to use fairway wood all the time because the hole is long. Course was in good shape , tee boxes good, fairways good, there was some rough and sometimes you had to be on your ball to find it. Was in several bunkers and the sand was very good, greens rolled a bit faster than expected but that was on me. I will come back anytime my guys invite me.

Costa Mesa was a great choice to play today – cool and breezy, local and inexpensive with a GN Hot deal + promo. I was paired with a nice twosome for a 1:53 p.m. tee time. We were behind a fivesome and a foursome so we got off to a painfully slow start but the marshall came by after a few holes and got things going a bit faster.

The course was in pretty good shape. The fairways and rough had a few scattered thin and bare spots but were mostly green and well cushioned. Some tee boxes were not very level, but most were just fine and had few divots. I was in two bunkers. They were more dirt than sand but it was soft and fluffy. The greens were not so good. On the front nine, they were firm and medium fast with the usual new and old ball marks. On the back nine, though, they were considerably softer with footprints and unrepaired ball marks everywhere.
The beverage cart came by 4 times. I was a bit disappointed when she said she was not allowed to sell me a cup of just ice. We finished in 4 hours. Always a fun course and I will definitely be back.

Tees were level and cut well. Fairways were in the process of being cut, and the kikuyu was a bit grabby where it wasn't. Rough was typical of the tract, not too bad. Found too many bunkers, and they varied from crispy to soft on greenside bunkers. One fairway bunker had uneven soft sand.

Greens were the best bit today, nice and smooth, medium speed. Held shots well, and not an excess of ball divots. This fun 18 presents more challenges v. its slope rating than most, imho.

No cart girl today and the marshal was out wandering around the course in his red cart, stopping to talk to no one.

Put a couple new wedges in the bag, so what better place to play than Mesa Linda. I have to admit that I just like this little course! I find the green complex's so interesting and they provide some nice options in the approaches. Overall this is a great little course with tons of character.

Condition was good, with the greens being the best part. Fairways were actually wet in some areas. Bunkers were hit or miss, some better than others. Rough was about average, with some bare/thin spots.

One of the aspects of this course that I enjoy the most is the fact that it does not come in after nine, so once you're out first, it's clear sailing. (Unless the women some out for a shot gun shot which has happened to me a few times here)

Played Mesa Linda on Monday, 24 July. Teed off from the blues at 2:15pm as a 3some, then a single joined up after a few holes, with things pretty well backed up in front of us from the start. Things were very slow on the front - there was a 5some three groups ahead, and two groups in front of us, a man and 3 children were holding things up from hole 2 through hole 12, noticed a full two holes open (a par 5 and 3) as they were on #10 green. Then, they must've gotten hungry, as they drastically picked up the pace and left everyone in the dust by the 14th hole - go figure. POP ended up being about 4hrs 20mins overall.

Mesa was in good condition overall. Actually, a bit overly wet in the fairways at times due to watering in prep for the Will Jordan Classic/Costa Mesa City Championship coming up on Aug 5/6. This led to some heavy approach shots. Overall, fairways were lush and green, with some rough spots/bad lies. Rough was long, heavy and penal today. Was in one greenside bunker on the par3 #2, and was in an unraked footprint.

Greens on Mesa are always a nice challenge, with various slopes/breaks to deal with, requiring some strategery on approach shots to stay below the hole, etc. Greens were in pretty good condition, normal amount of unrepaired divot marks, very receptive and held shots well, again due to the watering. Putting speed was medium today, with plenty of break due to some tough pin placements.

Had one of my better scoring and most consistent rounds of the year, so it was a good day for me in the end. Saw the cart girl once for the day on hole 5, heading in for the day. Saw the marshal a few times between holes 3 and 5, but clearly he took a sabbatical after that!

I have been playing here since the 80's and have seen this and Los Lagos in all kinds of different conditions. I can honestly say this is the best condition I have ever seen Mesa Linda.

Fairways were great. I can't remember a bad lie or thin spot (though I'm sure there were some). Greens were also really good, rolling medium/fast and true.

Rough was in good shape and semi penile.

Bunkers were very good.

POP was just under 4 hours. That's super fast for this place on a weekend or holiday.

I've been on a nostalgia tour since turning 50 in April and have been playing courses from my youth (Mesa Linda, La Mirada, Willowwick. Haven't been to my old high school course Dad Miller in a while. I hear it's in really bad condition) it's been fun.

A quick review...played yesterday, Father's Day, a very long round as expected so can't complain about that. I can complain about the greens though. They were quick and receptive, but whoever is cutting the hole locations is insane! There are 15-20 unhealed old hole locations per green easy, and most putts have at least one or two in your line. Kind of a bummer.

The rest of the course was shaggy, not mowed in a few days so no roll in the fairways but fluffy lies everywhere. The bunkers were very wet and difficult to escape. I'm writing this off to the heat wave this week and hope it's a one off.

Played Mesa Linda on Monday, 6/12 as a threesome, teeing off from the blues about 2:15pm on a sunny and a gusty, windy day. Played behind a 5some, and had slight/moderate waits on most holes throughout. POP ended up at 4hrs 30 mins.

Overall, I thought Mesa was in good condition, but a little short of Los Lagos' shape last week.

Though much shorter than Lagos, the smaller greens on Mesa Linda do present a tougher challenge due to their undulations and require a better short game. Wind strongly affected most approach shots in our group, often pushing the ball left, right, long or short of the smallish greens. The greens were in good (not great) condition, a few too many ball marks, a few bare spots, held shots fairly well and rolled medium-fast.

Tees were mostly level, a few divot-damaged areas outside of the par 3s. Fairways were generally lush and green, provided good roll-out, and bare spots were few. Rough was inconsistent, including bare spots and some longer (up to 5") uncut grasses. Was in one green-side bunker, recently un-raked, but with good, fluffy sand over a firm base.

Didn't see the refreshment cart nor a marshal come by in the afternoon. Still, a nice day out on a fun course.

Played a mid-morning round with a couple buds at Mesa Linda Sat., a course I've not played in years. Found it in very good muni condition and for around $39 walking on the weekend in the OC, not a bad deal. PoP as expected, dragged past 4 1/2 hours, acceptable for a W/E but the group behind us was consistently a hole back and more at the end. Kikuyu everywhere was in good shape, green and full but was not mown recently. Never had a bad lie in the fairway but the deeper rough was occasionally hit-it-and-hope. Putting greens were mown and rolled medium speed and true, nice to putt on. Bunkers a bit of a challenge: damp, some hard pan, and not well conditioned today. The Linda is a par 70 course, flat, and shorter than her sister LL ... most errant tee balls can be easily recovered, so it can be considered a real ego booster course if that's appealing. As Abbacat mentioned in her previous review, it should be moved into a golfers rotation for an occasional round rather than every few years. I know I'll be back again later this year. Add: they had a charity thing going on with attractive young ladies passing out beer and liquor to try. That made the day a bit more memorable :)
