Played 2/26/16, had a 2pm Tee time booked on Golf Now for $26, plus fee per person. We got out at 1pm, and were able to complete all 18 holes in 4.5 hours. Played with my friend Bob, we were paired with a wonderful older couple that could really play. the greens on the front 9 were very good. The greens on the back nine were either heavily ball marked, or covered in coot/mud hen crap. Squirrels show up and help themselves to your cart at the turn.
The destroyer model is out in for overhaul "in dry dock".

The recent rains have brightened up the fairways. They were green and in good winter condition. The rough was tough for the type of grass rather than depth of cut, and was brown. The course allows driver to be used a lot. The Carts are equipped with very nice, easy to use GPS, that shows the holes layout.

The sand traps were in very nice condition, rake placement was a hot mess. Would be nice if people knew how to stage the rakes.

Most tee were reasonably level, but thin or chopped up. The design of the course really doesn't fit my friends eye so he played well, but had to work hard to make par. I didn't stand a chance, having not played in two months but had a lot of fun. Many of the greens slope hard back to front, and we had an inordinate about of forward pin placements or pins tucked up behind bunkers, which made for a scary number of down hill puts.

This is really a fun must play course. There is a lot of water, and a fair about of ground under repair, including a dry lake. But none of these were more than a minor distraction.

Facilities are first rate, there are adequate restrooms on the course and a snack bar at the turn. the cart was out and about regularly during our round.

I personally had a lot of fun with this course, at a price I could afford, despite the drive.

Played Wed. 2/3. Teed off a little after 9am and finished in 4.5 hrs. The greens are in good shape with the exception some ball marks and coot crap all over 12th green. The greens held shots and rolled with medium/fast speed. The fairways are mostly a good winter thin with a few bare areas. The rough is winter thin with some bare areas. The bunkers are fair to good with compacted sand but playable. The tee boxes are fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness and a few are thin of grass. Navy is flat with an enjoyable varied layout. There is a good practice area with range, chipping green with bunker, and two putting greens. The clubhouse has a cafe with bar. The staff is friendly.

Enjoyed an afternoon round on the Destroyer Thursday, $27 walking rate, PoP at 4:20 so we finished before dark. Winter conditions is a compliment here, very thin and dry, actually. Had many poor lies in the fairways and rough is patchy. Greens were slow-ish and uneven, not holding lines consistently. Dry sand in bunkers but very playable.

We enjoy playing this Navy course as it's convenient, walkable, and has a well thought out challenging layout. We'll be back but hope some rain can help get some grass growing where it needs to grow. Might have to wait for Spring for that to happen. Still recommended, as long as you know what you're getting.

Played Wednesday, 1/13, at 8:50 and finished in 4:20. The Greens were in good condition aside from some ball marks. They rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways and rough are fair to good. Both are winter thin with some bare spots. The bunkers were fair to good. The tee boxes were fair to good due to mild unlevelness and thin grass. I am assuming in a continued effort to conserve water the small pond on the right side of 18 fairway has been drained and will become a waste bunker. Always a fun layout to play and the staff is friendly.

Greens were slowish speed. They held a shot well enough but very hard to pick a line since the ball would bounce around. Bunkers were mostly hard packed. Fairways cut well and good coverage. Rough was thick and very punishing both on distance and getting out of. There is one water feature currently under repair so it's empty. Tee boxes flat and well maintained.

Played as a twosome following a threesome. We were on their tail all day. This sleepy course doesn't get a lot of play and it's surprising given it's location. You would think it's a good alternative to the long beach courses and just north of some of the more popular OC courses. But it's not busy at all. Their loss is your gain. Conditioning I would say is above average. Greens should heal a lot better with weather and a little more rain. If you haven't play here in some time, now would be a pretty good time.

Played Wednesday morning, 11/11, finishing in 4:30. The greens were in good condition with some small thin spots, especially on green #6, and some ball and bird marks. Overall the greens rolled good at medium/fast speed. The course put netting around several water holes which helps keep the coots/mud hens away (seems to be working so far). The fairways and rough are mostly good with some thin spots. The bunkers were fair to good. The tee boxes were fair to good. Navy is a flat course with a nice varied layout. The staff has always been friendly.

I enjoy the variety in the layout of the course but some of the condition is lacking right now. Taking into consideration the greens were aerated two weeks ago and the fairways leading into the greens were aerated three weeks ago the conditions were disappointing. Most greens had areas that appeared almost healed while other areas looked recently aerated. Areas of several greens next to the collars had bare spots. The greens were very bumpy. The fairways were good until you got within 50 or so yards of the greens. Grass is not filling in uniformly and is just chewed up looking. The bad lies made chipping and pitching challenging. The rough was good. The bunkers and tee boxes are fair to good. I am sure in time the course will recover but I can't remember the condition of the greens and the fairways close to the greens being so rough two to three weeks after being aerated. The staff was great.

Played Thursday, 9/24. The greens rolled good and held shots however there are plenty of ball marks and spots were the birds have pecked the greens. The fairways had good coverage. The rough is good with a few thin spots. The bunkers were good but a little compacted. The tee boxes are fair to good with some unlevelness. The greens will be aerated starting Monday, 9/28. The collars and run-ups to the greens have been aerated this week. This is a flat course course with a nice variety of holes. Water comes into play several times. There is a driving range, two putting greens, and a chipping/pitching green with a bunker. The staff if friendly.

Played at 10AM on Wednesday, 9/9/15, in an SCGA qualifier. We were the last group out in the qualifier - early groups got 7AM times, so they missed the VERY HOT day we had, with little wind to break the heat. I'd rate the course a little better than the previous reviewers - it's not pristine but very playable and enjoyable. Lies were good everywhere, although when that kikuyu gets thick you get 'mushy' feeling stances, esp. on tees and in rough. Lots of old and new ballmarks but greens were firm, rolled well at medium-fast speed, and were smooth. Definitely recommended for an enjoyable round.
