Played 11/15. Course is in pretty good shape. Fairways have some areas with thin coverage or bare spots. Greens were pretty smooth and fairly fast. Sand traps a little inconsistent. Pace was a little over 4.5 hrs, some of that probably due to the howling wind that day. Fun layout, still a decent value.

Played 9/8, was very hot. Course overall is in good shape. Fairways on most holes have good coverage. A few like #1 are beat up. Greens were nice and smooth for the most part. Sand traps were hard with little sand. No cart service here which is tough when it's close to 100 outside.

Played Wednesday before aeration next week. Overall the course is in good winter condition with mostly good coverage throughout. The bunkers are a bit hit and miss. Some have very good sand while others are hard packed. One of the practice putting greens had been aerated with larger holes and plenty of sand. It will be probably be last week of April for the greens to be fully to close to fully recovered. Playable after a couple of weeks. This week maintenance was started on practice facilities and some tee boxes on the course were punched. The heavy course maintenance starts Monday, April 1st. The staff was friendly.

Play Wednesday in a club tournament teeing off shortly before 10 am finishing in 4:20. The greens rolled smooth with medium speed and held solid shots. The fairways had good coverage with decent rollout on tee shots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens had decent coverage. The length had an affect on shots but was not overly penal. Most of the bunkers were in good shape with nice sand but there were a couple holes that had greenside bunkers with hard compacted sand/dirt. Hole 7 comes to mind. The tee boxes have mostly good coverage with a few being thin. Overall the course is in nice winter condition. The staff was friendly.

Aeration of the golf course will begin April 1st. Maintenance of the practice areas will start the last week of March.

I played on Wednesday with cthuyen. Navy golf course is always in great shape. Greens were consistent , tee boxes had some bare spots, sand bunkers were excellent, and fairways were in decent shape. Pace of play was no issues at all. We finished in 4.5.

The challenge at this place is securing a tee time. If you get one, it’s one of the best values in Orange County.

Snagged a last minute cancellation at Navy Destroyer yesterday at 10:39 am.

POP was 4.20 minutes with minor waits on each hole. Most of the time, they will let you out earlier than your tee time because they always have cancellations from active or off duty folks who book times and never show up. Course is very good shape. Greens running at 10, smooth and scary on downhillers. Fairways had great coverage for winter and rough was not very penal unless you are super crooked like me. Sand traps has medium coverage of sand and tee boxes were level and well maintained. Snack shack was well stocked and well priced. 19th hole was busy and plenty of good priced food. Proshop was well stocked and offered club regripping services. Civilians rates have gone up to north of $75 to ride, but still a great alternative to the Long Beach courses if you can ever snag a tee time.

A few days late posting my review. Played Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving. Teed off about 10am finishing in 4:55. A little slower than normal but it was a tournament. The winds were up a bit adding to slower than usual play. The greens rolled smooth with speeds being toward the faster side and held shots. When the greens are running fast being above the hole is challenging especially with front pin placements. The fairways had mostly good coverage with some thin areas and had good rollout on tee shots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens had good coverage with the length being low and not very penal. Rough areas beyond along the fairways can be thin and bare. The bunkers had decent sand to play from. The tee boxes were fair to good. mostly good coverage with a few boxes being thin. Always enjoy playing Navy Destroyer. The staff was friendly.

After a long four years away, finally made it back to the impressive Navy course in Cypress/Seal Beach this past Friday for a twilight round with two friends. We were paired with another single and the greens fee of $43 was an absolute steal.

I was so shocked when I found the time that I had to jump on it right away, but of course should have checked out GK first (Know before you go!) to find out that they had just aerated the greens only three days previous. Luckily the autumn punch isn't as deep as the spring one, so they weren't as bad as they could have been, but the sand was also a factor, however I did only end up with 32 putts so I can't complain too much. Everyone plays the same greens!

The course is well guarded with sneaky length, lots of doglegs and plenty of bunkers and water hazards throughout. It's a real test of consistency and luckily I played my best round of the year so far to make it an even better experience. We had a POP of around four and a half hours and the carts are nicely appointed with GPS.

Apart from the green conditions, the rest of the course was in pretty good shape all around, although lots of the usual water features are now dry and just rocky hazard waste areas. It doesn't look quite as aesthetically pleasing as it could, but still plays pretty nicely but there are a few bare areas around the course. Fairways are mostly in good shape and there are a few areas of deep rough, but most of it's pretty fair. Tee boxes (we played the blues) were mostly level and predominantly in good shape, but there were some that required a good look around for some grass. Bunkers were pretty good - they play a lot better than they look.

Staff was super nice and very accommodating - even got us a free set of range balls after having forgotten to ask during payment. There was no cart service but you can use the restaurant bar to get everything you need ahead of your round, and there's also a very convenient little snack shop at the 12th tee box as you don't come back to the clubhouse here at the turn.

Really enjoyed getting back out to this course after so long but definitely will check on the greens conditions next time before heading out.

Played Wednesday teeing off about 10:20 finishing in 4.5 hours. The greens were in good condition. They rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had mostly good coverage with a few thin/bare spots and allowed for decent rollout on tee shots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens was good. The length was long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The rough farther off the fairway isn't really maintained other than to be cut down. The local rule for Navy is that red stakes with green caps are played as environmental sensitive areas from which the player is allowed a free drop out of the area. The bunkers around the greens felt a bit crusty but played well. The fairway bunkers tend to play firm. The tee boxes mostly had decent coverage but mildly unlevel in spots. Always enjoy playing the Destroyer course. A nice amount of variety and challenging greens. The staff was friendly.
