Played here on Sunday. The wind was swirling and made the course a little tougher. Greens were a lot better than the last time I was here. Very fun track and I really enjoyed the layout. But I noticed with the lack of rain, majority of the lakes water levels have been very low. One lake was completely dry. CA needs rain.... Badly. That's another story...

Played Destroyer today with the LA Golf Group in a little Ryder Cup style team match against the 2nd Street club from Long Beach. Ugly weather marred what was otherwise a really fun day. Our group teed off a little after 10:00 and the round took over 5 hours. The format we played and the windy/rainy conditions contributed to slower play. We got a great group rate of $40 per player, which included a large bucket of balls and carts. Can't beat that on a weekend! The course was in nice condition overall. Tee boxes good. Fairways and rough mostly lush and green kikuyu with some thin sections here and there. Greens softened up by the rain and rolling slower than normal, but nice putting surfaces throughout. Bunkers had pretty good sand. This was my second time on this course and I enjoyed it this time as well. It's a really good overall value for this area and the layout is solid. Relatively long with plenty of water hazards in play, but still fairly forgiving. I'll definitely be back again.

Played solo on Monday morning, 3/23/15, after getting no replies on my Meet-Play. Walked on and paid $57 (w/ cart) at 11:15 am, then took my place behind all the retirees and wives, college golf teams, and others for a slow (4.5+ hr) round. Sunny, warm, and a steady breeze from the south that needed to be factored in on every shot.

Coot/bird damage is severe on holes around the lakes here. Big holes in turf on greens, poop everywhere, ugly restraint fences, thin grass coverage, with several almost bare tee box areas. Holes away from the lakes are a different universe - good turf coverage, greens receptive, good coverage and rolled well at medium-fast speed. Rough everywhere was cut low and generally benign. Good coverage in the bunkers, although damp in the base.

Green aprons have been punched and shaved down. Greens are generally small, some have very slopy areas, a few have pronounced tiering. Slow foursome playing from the wrong tees (and definitely low skill level) killed pace on the back nine as many holes backed up.

Played 3/4. The greens are good condition. They rolled smooth with medium/fast pace and held shots. The fairways are in good winter condition with some thin spots. The rough is winter thin but decent.... Continue »

The rough is winter thin but decent. The bunkers are fair to good. Some of the tee boxes are in poor condition. The course is a flat and enjoyable layout with nice variety. The staff is friendly.

First time playing here and boy was I impressed! I usually stick to courses a little further down in OC but decided to give this course a try as my pops (ex DOD) wanted to play and bring back memories of him playing military courses overseas. The green fees were awesome. It was a little cheaper for us being that we golfed with my dad but even full "civilian" rate is totally worth it. Arrived at the course a little early so had a chance to eat breakfast in the restaurant. Boy did it bring back some memories for me as it reminded me of eating weekend breakfasts at golf courses on military bases overseas. To top it off the corned beef hash and breakfast burrito that my buddy had were right on point. Broke da mouth. As for the course, I was thoroughly impressed. For a public/muni course the conditions of both the fairways and greens were awesome. I would say for the most part it was lush and green throughout the course with a little bare spots here and there. Tons of doglegs and water. Pace of play was a tad bit over 4 hours. It's a shame I played the round a little tipsy but even so, I enjoyed the course so much I am going to make it a regular and try golf here as often as possible!

Hello fellow golfers. I played the Navy Course (Destroyer) today Tue, Feb 17. I got out on time again. This was my week. The Navy course is always fun to play at least once because of its history and it is right next to a base of some kind with military grade flying machines. The course was in good shape. The greens rolled pretty good and the fairways had some roll to them. The course is pretty flat so it's a good walk. If the wind blows it can make a few holes interesting. I enjoy playnig this course when the greens are fast because there is movement in just about every green. Enjoy

Took advantage of a rare midweek day off to hit the links and got a good $30 deal to the Navy Destroyer course (which I'd never played before). Had the pleasure of playing with three fine gentlemen who were all great playing partners - helps to make a good day into a great day. 11:45 tee time (played blue tees) and went off just after it. We kept pace with the group in front of us and never had to wait on a single hole which was great. Unfortunately for the young, fast whippersnappers behind us, they spent a good part of the day waiting on us, but in truth we were right on pace. Not sure they were even bothering putting they were so fast! I enjoyed this course immensely. Really dynamic and varying holes - thinking man's holes much of the time. There's plenty of water, but it's fair. Very fair. I found the layout to be very intriguing, but interesting that there's not a single par 3 until #9. Makes the course feel like it plays much longer than it actually is. But for a high handicapper like myself, a real solid, but fun challenge. The fairways were in very good condition over 90% of the course, and the tee boxes (outside of #10) were just fine. The sand was pretty hard packed - the biggest knock on the course. But in many cases for our group it actually proved advantageous as tee shots with any velocity tended to roll out of them and onto grass. The greens? Really nice. There's good variation on the greens and they roll true and at good speed. They also proved to be pretty receptive to good shots. Again, really enjoyed the layout here and hope to come back soon. Would have shot a very nice mid-90s round for my handicap but unfortunately ended up hitting on 3 on 3 holes after finding water. Twice it was just a poor, hooked tee shot, but on #10 I hit the ONE palm tree dead center over the water and it bounced back and into the pond - bad luck. Guys in the pro shop quick and efficient, and the starter was one of the nicer guys you'll ever meet. All in all a great day on the links - beats working any time.

Played 2-11. The greens rolled good, held shots, and were medium/fast pace. Like most courses there are ball marks and the birds pecked a few small holes in a couple greens. The fairways are in good winter shape. The rough is fair to good and winter thin. The tee boxes are fair to good. Some of the bunkers are thin of sand. The course has an enjoyable and varied layout. The greens are the toughest challenge. The staff is friendly.

First time playing this course since my Navy days! I only played the front nine and then only the first six holes. Didn't have time for more dealing with a dad that has Alzheimer's. I found this to be a fun no stress golf course. A little bit of course knowledge goes a long way here when it comes to club selection.
Overall it is apparent that this course gets a huge amount of play for which the greens are paying the price. Lots of ball marks, I must have fixed about four or five per green that I played. The bunkers were I bit thin for which I payed the price on three. I will play here again as I only had to pay 12 bucks as a veteran. I want to thank all the guys that gave me ideas on courses to play almost played Oak Quary but didn't have enough time.
