The course is in good shape. Fairly level tee boxes with good coverage. Fairways are very nice very minimal bare areas, rough is the same, pretty lush. Bunkers have good amount of sand and consistent. Greens are tiered so you have options on your approach shots. Fairly smooth with medium speed. The layout is interesting also. No two holes look the same. 8 lakes, water comes into play on more than half the holes. Highly recommend playing here. POP 4:50 on Sunday. Tee'd of at 12:30

Bumpy with med/fast speed. Hard to keep the ball on line without a firm stroke. Fairways are spectacular. Great coverage. Rough is thick and penal. Sand in bunkers is hard packed. Folks Fix your messes in the Bunkers. Not a lot of muddy areas. Course appears to drain very well. Not a lot of GUR. Pace of play was an abysmal 5 hour round on a THURSDAY. I guess everyone was sneaking out before the rain came. Wait a week/two before coming here.

Played Wednesday, 2/1. I was pleasantly surprised with the course conditions a week after several days of heavy rain. The greens were in good condition rolling with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways were better than I anticipated. Overall they were in good winter condition with a few wet/soft spots especially along a couple of the ponds that overflowed during the rains. The rough was mostly good with a few thin and/or soft spots. The tee boxes were fair to good. The bunkers were fair to good. The heavy rains compacted the sand but they were playable. The Destroyer course has a flat and varied layout with challenging greens. The staff is friendly.

Teed off Wednesday about 10am and finished in 4:40 (tournament). Recent rains made the greens soft and so footprints made the greens a little bumpy at times. Other than a little bumpiness the greens rolled decent with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had decent grass coverage with a few wet spots due to rain. The rough is winter low height with a few thin/bare spots. The bunkers were decent considering recent rains. The tee boxes were fair to good with some mild unlevelness. This is a fun track to play with a nice amount of variety to the holes. Water comes into play on several holes. The course is flat and easily walkalbe. The staff has always been friendly.

First time I've played this course. I just never knew it was public. Doh! Stupid me...it's a wonderful track. Reminds me a bit of Skylinks and Rio but it's better. Walkable which is nice. Greens are superb, true, well kept, just one or two more on the stimp and they would be top notch. Good open holes and a few tight ones, so you can go through every club in the bag if you're playing it wisely. Quite a bit of water to navigate and the final run of holes are really excellent. Great chili at $3 a pop at the turn, lovely guys in the pro shop. Not much to criticize really. I'm sold. Can't wait to go back.

Twilight round on the Destroyer on a Wednesday. Ran out of the office and got in 18 holes just before sunset with a 12:15 tee time and a 4.5 PoP for $26 (non-mil, walking rate). One thing I like about the Navy course is the condition is consistent: fairways a bit thin but have full coverage, rough not penal but you can run into trouble under the many trees lining the course, greens that get bumpy in the PM but have good pace, and playable bunkers. Like most any OC/LA area muni, the PoP cannot be predicted but today was not too bad as we were able to finish at dusk. Today the marshal was out herding the cats, so I'm sure that helped.

Great course to kick it around and can be a handful from the blue tees. Beware of helicopters doing touch and goes. Recommended.

Played the destroyer course yesterday at 245. First time at this course and was actually pleasantly surprised with the layout and design. Definitely some cool holes out here for a course that is completely flat. Good solid par 5s and some tough par 3s as well. Got a tee time for 18 bucks on teeoff.com so the price was definitely right. I blew through my first 7 holes and then ran into a wall of people. Pace of play was very slow on the back 9 with multiple groups on tee boxes. As far as conditioning, tee boxes were okay some were severely unlevel but pretty well cut. Fairways had good coverage but pretty tight lies and some wet ground in spots actually made it tough to hit your wedges. Rough was okay, hit and miss. The bunkers I was in were actually great, really top notch which seems to be rare nowadays. The worst part of the course unfortunately we're the greens. Playing late in the day on soft greens made for putting through a mine field. Extremely bump and untrue. Maybe they would be okay in the mornings but tough to play on in the afternoon. I would go back for the price, and the course would actually be really nice if the greens came around a little bit.

Tee off Monday, 10/17, at 9am and finished just short of 4 hours. The early morning rain scared some people off so the pace was good. The greens have recovered well from aeration and are in good condition. They rolled medium speed (would have rolled a bit faster if not for morning rain), reasonably smooth, and held shots. The fairways were in good condition aside from some wet spots. The rough was good along the fairways with a few thin spots. The bunkers were decent when considering the morning rain. The tee boxes were fair to good due to mild unlevelness. The course has an enjoyable flat and varied layout. The staff is friendly.

Played on Wed, 10/12, twilight rate of $26 non-military. PoP good at 4:15. Greens getting better 2 weeks after aeration. The review by NutNButCup was spot on. Nice walkable layout but will challenge you from the tips. Ventured into several GS bunkers which were looking a bit uneven but were very playable. Never had a bad lie in the fairway. Poa greens a tad on the slow side but will be great in about a week or two. Thumbs up.
