The course is in overall good condition. The greens rolled good with medium/fast pace and held shots. The fairways are winter good with a few soft spots due to recent rains. The rough is fair to good with some thin or bare spots. The bunkers are fair to good. The tee boxes are fair to good with some minor unlevelness. The Destroyer course has a nice varied flat layout. The undulating greens are the biggest challenge. The practice area includes driving range, two putting greens, and a chipping/pitching green with bunker. There is a nice clubhouse and the staff is friendly.

I was out in that area Thurs 12/11/14 The wifey and I decided to play a round out here.

The coolest thing about this course is the history it has, and the Navy or US Armed Forces involvement here. Tiger Woods home course, if you have read his book he talks about this course a lot.

The staff here were great. There was an asian guy who helped me he was really nice. I paid with a hot deal on golfnow, the guy gave me free range balls for me and the wifey and discounted a towel that I bought and a logo ball (I collect logo balls for every new course I play)

They let us out an hour early, the course was in pretty good shape, the greens were challenging. I did not like chipping around the greens. The grass was really thick where your club will just grab every time. There were some holes where there was those black birds (dont know what they are call. Not goose, or ducks) there was bird poop everywhere even on the greens when you were putting the ball would roll through poop. that was only in about 3 or 4 holes.

Great course, it was about 30 bucks not bad for an am tee time.

The greens are close to recovering from aeration. They are medium speed and a little bumpy at times. The fairways are reasonably good. The rough along the fairways is mostly good. The more interior rough areas have become environmental areas and are growing wild but they have been mowed down for winter. The bunkers were good today (I was in four). The tee boxes are fair to good. Good practice areas and friendly service.

Got on the Navy for a twilight round today, a bit windy early but it died down later. 4.5 hours walking, not terrible PoP but a minute or two waiting on most holes behind a walking senior 4 some that fell behind on the back nine. Greens still recovering from aeration, rolling just a bit slow and bumpy. Rest of course hasn't changed since my last excursion here, dry but most fairway lies were decent ... the rough is inconsistent at best. Bunkers thin and dry, be careful, many unraked footprints (a size 5 it looked like to me) so take it with a grain of salt ... but this really blows my mind that someone can't rake a bunker when the rake is 10 feet from point of entry. Many unrepaired ball marks on the greens as well. Greens should be fully recovered in another two weeks, then "go play".

Resolved to play the Destroyer again on a Thursday at Twilight rates (3:15pm tee time and $20 walking green fee) with some buds, I didn't expect much in the way of improved conditions since my last post in August ... which was the case. Fairways mostly firm and dry-ish, bunkers crusty/thin, and greens bumpy/hard/lots o' ball marks ... I mean a whole ton of those suckers. Fun layout though if you want to hear something/anything positive. Greens get punched next week. We were behind a HS match so the front played slow in 2.5 hrs, but really opened up on the back. We quit after 14 but could've easily played two more holes. Nothing more to add ...

Twilight again on the Destroyer on Thursday. Cannot comment on other reviews without being disrespectful so I'll just give you my take on a course I really enjoy: 'disappointment' would best describe the conditions at this once diamond in the rough military/public golf course. If anyone is doing their share to save water during this drought, it's the Navy. Fairways dry but I need to add that most every time we had decent lies. The rough is another issue as the further you venture the drier it gets to the point where the 'natural' weeds have taken over and there are 'environmental' signs telling patrons not to drive a cart in the 'environmentally sensitive area' ... best not to disturb the gofers and ground squirrels which are taking over. Hilarious while sad. Anyway, greens were bumpy and medium-slow, dozens of unrepaired pitch marks, and difficult to judge speed ... think 3 feet past the cup. Bunkers are hit and miss, mostly miss ... dry and firm with a whisper of sand over hard pan ... and little footprints all over, in every bunker. Tee boxes firm, bring a hammer. Not happy, not recommended at this time. Good news is that it's nothing that a good watering and greens crew couldn't remedy in a week or two ... just don't see that happening soon. Oh yeah, PoP was hideous: 5 hrs. Last ones to finish.

Snuck outta work early on Wednesday and met some buds at the Navy course for a 3:15 tee time, $20 super twilight rate walking. Got around in 4:45 so we spent a bit of time waiting on the front 9 but everything opened up on the back. Course a bit dry, as expected during this drought, but very playable unless you leave the fairway, then it's un-mown Kikuyu rough or a patchy hard pan lie. Bunkers were mostly maintained, some thin lies so be careful in there. Greens did not appear to get a cut today so by the afternoon they were slow and bumpy, the worse I've ever seen it here. Really, just bad timing cuz the Poa looks nice and green. If the crew is out with their mowers in the morning I'm sure it's a fine putting surface, just not this evening. Great rate, nice layout ... I need to come here more often.

Some bunkers have become packed down and need to be turned but are playable. The tee boxes are decent with some being mildly unlevel. Enjoyable flat layout with nice variety. Good practice area and friendly staff.
