Played Friday morning, 3/3. Got a tee time as a single teeing off about 7:45 finishing in 4:10. The greens had small hole punches with no sand. The holes had minimal affect on putting. The greens rolled mostly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. Chip and pitch shots tended to roll out a bit. The fairways had good winter coverage and allowed for decent roll out on tee shots. The rough had mostly good coverage along the fairways and around the greens. There were some thin/bare spots. The length of the rough was winter low and mildly affected shots. The bunkers appeared to be in good condition. I was not in any but my playing partners didn't have any complaints. The tee boxes had fair to good coverage and were mildly unlevel in spots.

As I mentioned prior the greens had small punch holes with no sand. Navy is still planning on aerating the greens with sand in April. No date set. Typically they aerate the greens in the first two weeks of April. On a good note it appears the collapsed water wells are being repaired. There was a crew working on the wells. Always enjoy playing at Navy and the staff was friendly.

Able to snag a last minute cancellation at Navy Destroyer for our foursome.

Ventured out at 12 pm yesterday. Greens have recovered nicely from the well issues. In fact, some of the dried out lakes have water in them including Hole #7 and Hole #13 (both beautiful holes). Greens running at 10/11. Fairway was lush, a little soft (watch the turf interaction on soggy soil with wedges). Tee boxes fine and wind was blowing 10 to 15 all day long. POP was slow because of the wind. Sand was wet and damp. Clubhouse was packed with patrons with great food and beverage prices. Hit a monster drive on 18 from the whites (285) and was still 35 yards behind the Tiger Tree from the tips.

Walked on this morning teeing off about 6:50 finishing in 3:35. When I last played Navy in May the course conditions were fairly good. Fast forward two months and a regular player at Navy tells me the conditions had gone down hill significantly including the greens. In August GK reviews confirm that assessment. The good news is the course is making a good recovery with few rough edges. The greens were in overall good condition. A handful greens had a few small bare/thin spots that were sanded but didn't really affect play. The greens rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. Downhill putts could definitely get away if not careful. The fairway mostly had good coverage with decent rollout. There were some thin/bare spots scattered about. The rough is low with mostly good coverage along the fairways. The farther off the fairway the ball goes the less grass there is on some holes. The rough around the greens has good coverage and is low as well. The bunkers were in good condition. The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots.

The ponds are still dry but considering the lack of rainfall and two collapsed water wells waiting for repair growing grass is more important. Really enjoy the layout of the Navy Destroyer course. Glad to see the condition are coming back around. Navy has good practice areas, a nice cafe and bar, and the employees are friendly.

Back In So Cal. for a few weeks and got invited to play the Navy course with Stickboy and his 2 family members Bobby and Jim and we all rode and played from the white tee boxes. We teed at. 12:15 with four walkers ahead of us. I has not played here for a while and was expecting to have fun on a nice golf course. Tee boxes were level and fine a few divot marks on the par 3's however everything else was a little off. First the fairways, were playable but lots of brown and thin spots but maybe because of the lack of water is understandable, but the greens and I mean all the greens were horrible. It seemed like a fungus or something but many of the green had been sanded in various spots which made putting a chore and no where was this evident or even mentioned at the pro shop. A lot of the water has been drained out of the lakes and I believe there is only 1 lake that had water in it, bunkers were very well groomed and all had rakes. After is was all said and done we went down the street to a place called on the rocks where we had a bite to eat and a few beers and reminisced what the Navy Course use to be like and hopefully the course will return to its nice condition sometime in the futute but at this time I do not recommend playing here until the conditions change.. Great seeing Vince and his family again.

Destroyer course is not in the best of shape right now due to a water shortage. Usually, the greens are in very good condition but yesterday there were many bare/diseased areas and some spotty lies in the fairways to boot. Bunkers were semi-decent sand with some unraked footprints. Ponds are mostly all dried up except one. PoP was good for a noon tee time at 4:20 and very little waiting. Just be warned that the Destroyer is not quite up to par when deciding to play there. Maybe they'll get some water which it desperately needs but with the drought conditions here in So Cal, that's doubtful. Shame, it's a real nice layout.

Walked on early morning teeing off about 6:40 finishing in 3:50. The greens are fully recovered from aeration and in good condition. Greens rolled at the lower end of fast, smooth, and held shots. Being above the hole today was not a good idea. The fairways had overall good coverage with a few thinning spots and allowed for decent rollout off the tee. The rough around the greens was long enough to affect shots but nothing too difficult. The rough along the fairways was on the low side with decent coverage and some thin/bare spots. The bunkers were groomed and played good (I was in 3 greenside). The tee boxes have decent coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots. Navy has good practice areas, a nice clubhouse with cafe and bar, and friendly staff.

Walked on early this morning teeing off just after 6:30 finishing in 3:45. The greens are close to full recovery from aeration. They roll with medium speed and are a little bumpy but very playable. The fairways have very good coverage for the most part with a few thin spots. The rough along the fairways is cut fairly short. There is decent coverage with some thin/bare spots. The rough around the greens is a little longer but not too penal. The two bunkers I was in play decent and were well groomed. The tee boxes have good coverage but have some humps and bumps and are mildly unlevel in spots. Update from my last review on the lack of water in the ponds. The two wells that collapsed are repairable. The course is in the process of getting the approvals needed through the military to get the repairs done. I love the variety that the Destroyer course provides. Good practice areas. Nice club house. Staff was friendly.

Played yesterday, 4/19 at 12:00 pm on a pretty blustery day (I'd estimate a 1.5 to 2 club wind). Had booked a twosome and expected to be joined by 2 other players, but the starter got us out right at our tee time with just us. No waiting on the front but caught the twosome in front of us on the 10th tee. POP was right about 4 hours with just some minimal waiting on the back nine.


Conditions were about what I expected: good to great coverage in the fairways, rough was a tad patchy and like the previous review mentioned, was some slight sand residue on greens from the punching a couple weeks prior. Both my playing partner and I were over-reading the greens to start as it seemed like the conditions of the greens were taking most of the breaks out of putts.


Most if not all of the tee boxes had a slight slant to them, but not so terrible that you couldn't find a place to tee off.

Bunkers seemed to be a mixed bag on if there visually appeared to be enough sand or not, but weren't terrible to hit out of.

It was my first time making it out here and I would definitely be back to see if I could improve on my score when the weather is cooperating a bit more.

The course could be nicer later. Even thought punching greens has already passed about a month, the green isn't normal yet. Maybe 2weeks later Good!!

The water lakes are not existed like the pictures.


There are no yardage mark on the fairway... Be careful if you don't have a distance finder.


Overall, I'd like to play later when the greens are OK.
