Navy didn't open for play until last October then only 3 or 4somes could book tee times. Play is now open for singles through 4somes to book. The course uses Golfnow for online tee times or you can call the course. The driving range, practice chipping green, and two putting greens are open. Navy Destroyer is a good track with plenty of variety and water comes into play on several holes.

Teed off on Friday morning at 6:30 finishing in 3:55. Overall the course is green and lush. The greens rolled with medium/fast speed, held shot, and were mostly smooth. The ball could wiggle a little as the put slowed. The fairways have good coverage and were a little on the long side so not a lot of roll out. There were a few thin spots but I had good lies all round. The rough around the greens and along the fairways is primarily very good with a few thin/bare spots and moderately penal. The no play zones marked by red stakes with green tops operate under local rules providing for a No Penalty drop within to club lengths. The course does not want golfers in those areas. The bunkers have sand but are a bit compacted and don't appear to be raked buy staff often so plenty of foot prints. Once I smoothed a spot with my foot and dropped the bunkers were playable. The tee boxes have good coverage although some are mildly unlevel. Overall a good time to play Navy Destroyer.

The course is in good shape right now. The greens were smooth and fast. Fairways have good coverage and bunkers were good. Rough is a little spotty as were some of the tee boxes but overall, worth playing. Pace was very good. The range is open with mats.

At first look, Navy appears lush and as good as any public course (even private courses), but take a walk down the fairway and you’ll see your driver pitchmark next to your ball which is covered in mud. There is zero roll so consider moving up a tee box. Hit your next shot short of the green and you’ll find another grass covered mud pit in front of every green. It’s so overwatered that the mowers are causing damage, not to mention everyone in separate carts. I love to walk but it’s so wet, it’s not enjoyable. Once on the green, you’ll need a divot tool to repair the massive pitchmark. I embedded several times today. Greens look good but they are so mushie, you need to slam the putt in. I think the GK is incompetent with so much watering.

Navy finally reopened last week (closed since end of March) so I was able to secure a civilian tee time for yesterday at 10:10. As to be expected, with less play, the course was in great shape. The greens were running around 9 to 10. Fairway was lush, green, and plenty of coverage. Rough was a little spotty. There were a few rough patches here and there, but overall, course is very nice shape. The sand was very playable and semi-fluffy. POP was 3 hrs and 45 minutes with plenty of walkers. Keep in mind, this course is strict with COVID precautions. They will not even let you in the parking lot until 30 minutes before your time. Temperature checks at entrance to parking lot. Check in where the old lobby is. They set up hand washing and porta potties outside by the putting green. No food or beverage service as they just reopened last week. Mask not required on the actual course. They do encourage spacing and not trying to rush the group in front to maintain spacing. Worth a trek, especially if you are retired/active military or DOD because you get to reserve tee times advance of 7 days like regular civilians. They also have a new website for reservations. Side Note: Many times I play here before COVID, I get paired up with retired military golfers. Almost every time, I meet someone very cool with awesome war stories. Very proudly at the end of the round, I thank them not only for a pleasant 18 holes, but more importantly for their service to our country. A unique dynamic at this course.

Teed off Wednesday about 10am finishing in 4:40. The greens were in good condition. Greens putted mostly smooth and held shots. Afternoon putting on poa greens can be a little bumpy at times. The fairways have mostly good coverage with some winter thin spots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens is mostly good. The bunkers were in good condition. The tee boxes are fair to good with some unlevelness. Nice layout with plenty of variety and water comes into play on several holes. The staff is friendly.

If you haven't played the Navy Destroyer. Do it. It's a great round of golf. Conditions were much better than every other course I've played for months but a bit below what the course is when it's at it's best. Greens had probably reached medium speed by our later tee time. Everything had mostly good coverage - Here and there things got a bit thin in the fairways and rough. Bunkers good - not great - but my playing partner said he was in one that didn't have enough sand in it. People must agree because it was busy even during the week at 11. Despite that, POP was fine as we only waited a little on all the par 3 holes.

Teed off Saturday, 1/18, just after 11am finishing in 5:05. About what I would expect for a late morning weekend tournament. The greens we in good condition rolling medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had mostly good coverage with some winter thin spots. The rough was good along the fairways and around the greens. The length was enough to affect shots but not to penal. The bunkers were in good condition with no complaints form the group (other than our play). The tee boxes were fair to good. A few tee boxes were a bit thin on grass and mildly unlevel but playable. Good track with nice variety. Good practice facilities, good food, and friendly staff.
