Made tee-time through some funky on-line system where you prepay. Check-in is at the first tee box but they 'cannot' give you a scorecard - so you have to find a way to get one. I really like the spongy fairways and the rough was what I expect rough to be longer, less playable but you can still find your ball. Greens are a bit slower than one would expect. No tee markers so tee off anywhere you d%mn please - maybe that's why the tee boxes were in such good shape.

fun course - If I lived anywhere near here - I'd play it regularly.

Went off on time and found the course in very good shape. Greens on the hard side, a bit slow but rolling well. Overall a good experience, played in just over 4 hours.

Played San Clemente today, walking around 1145. Due to COVID they are walking only, no carts right now. No masks required. They have NO FLAGSTICKS IN. Don't know if that is a city requirement but I find it impossible to play that way, really no idea where to aim until youre within 15 yards of the green so good luck on making birdies like that. They have the cups flipped upside down so the ball drops in a little bit.

Course conditions were nice, fairways were full and ball always sits up great. Rough was deeper than normal and bordered the fairways nicely. Greens looked full and healthy but definitely were slow and needed a mow.

Bottom line if they mow the greens tighter and put the flagsticks in this place will be great.

I like to think of SC Muni as the poor man's Pebble Beach (kinda like Torrey, but one notch lower) You get sneak peak views of the ocean, poa annua greens, sticky Kikuyugrass that eliminates the bump and run, and a nice ocean breeze. All for about 50 bucks. Even though I started at 12:00 and finished at sunset I still believe this course is one the best values in the oc area.

The greens were their typical medium fast pace, that sometimes require a magic 8 ball to read. Few shallow divots on the green. Overall, great to putt on and enjoy them now because next month they will be punched.

Fairways were as good I’ve seen them. Great lies and few bare spots. Saw an amateur hit his drive on hole 11 to the 150 marker (330 yard drive, no wind and flat) My driver didn’t want to get out of the bag after seeing it. I told him I still loved him and poked the ball out to the neighboring zip code.

Well, that’s it. Back to the work grind.

Decided this morning I'd rather play golf than watch all of the Super Bowl, so I jumped in the car and headed to San Clemente. Arrived around 12:10 and asked to be put on the list. They must've had special Super Bowl special rates (I know they were offering 9-hole rates midday, but I told them I was planning to play 18) because they only charged me $20 to walk, and I teed off at 12:25. Paired with a dad and his two boys. We all walked and finished in just under four hours, good enough to get home before halftime. Couldn't ask for much better other than maybe nicer weather. It was overcast and a little cool and windy. It felt great but the course didn't look quite as nice as it would under sunny skies.

Gotta agree with sparky14 and weber about conditions. It's really nice out there right now, definitely the lushest fairways I've played in the last few weeks. Greens are medium-fast and smooth. They were medium firmness; some shots took a bounce or two before stopping. Rough was healthy and a little longer than the fairways but not too penal. Bunkers I was in were all good. Blue tees were good except for No. 14 which is really thin.

I hadn't played on kikuyu for quite a while and it seemed extra grabby today. I love this course and always enjoy any chance to return here, especially when it's in good condition like it is right now. Highly recommended for the layout, conditions, value and views.

I rarely play "away" on the weekends, but with an out of town friend visiting, decided San Clemente was the perfect venue. How wonderful to play this course with great weather, although a little cool in the beginning of the round, it warmed up nicely. Staff was as always very friendly and accommodating. ( Somehow I got out for the resident rate? )

As prior review indicates, course is in really nice shape right now, particularly the fairways. Greens were good, not great, but if you were above the cup, the speed was there. Some brown spots, but so what, it's winter and a heck of a lot better than conditions in Chicago.

It's hard to dislike this course. It is a fun easy walking course, reasonably priced, particularly for Orange County. Ocean views don't hurt either.

Greens are nice. A bit brown in spots, but coverage is good. Putts are quick and smooth rolling. Rough is healthy. Sand is fine. There are some rough tee boxes, but nothing too bad. Lots of players and not a lot of teeing ground, so that's normal for SC.

Fairways are as good as I've ever seen them in 23 years of playing here.

It's still a muni, so there are rough patches here and there. But for January, I can't remember the course as a whole being in much better shape than this.

Not wanting to fight traffic or the heat, decided San Clemente would fit nicely. The staff here is always friendly and work hard to accommodate walk on players, as they leave at least one open tee time every hour for walk up players.

Always enjoy playing this course because it is generally in good condition, greens roll well and are receptive to shots. Bunkers well maintained with plenty of sand. Rough is not too penal, but ball did seem to settle down.

Playing here gives me a "park like" feel, very comfortable, most of the holes are pretty stress free off the tee (Except for #16) No forced carries, very little chance of losing balls, not a difficult walking course, relaxed atmosphere, and with some views of the Pacific Ocean, what's not to like.

Better deal for residents, but still for Orange County, still reasonably priced. Never have experienced a pace of play issue because I have always teed off early, and being a "walker" always seem to get paired with other senior walkers.

Played Tues Aug 6th, had a 707 tee time and I live in norco so left the house at 430, 61 miles and 1hr 12 min later I got there. Restaurant opened at 6 check in was very friendly and fast. This is only the 2nd time I played here and it has been 9 months since the 1st time. I really wish it was closer as i like the course. Good tee boxes and fairways, wasn't in any bunkers, but greens were real nice. POP was good at 3:49, the course looked busy but everyone seemed to be moving. And truthfully it was nice to be in 70 degree weather for a change. The breeze came up a little on the bafk nine but was still very playable. Like I said I like this course and have to think about making the drive more often.
