Birthday round today! Teed off about 10 minutes ahead of schedule. Today was a bit rainy, and I feel like this course cannot handle rain well at all after my round today. It wasn't raining really hard, but there was abundant casual water in both the fairways and rough. It was very muddy and slippery throughout the course, with plenty of coot droppings mixed in. The greens were nice, if a bit soft, and rolled quite fast. Fairway bunkers had plenty of soft white sand in them (a few were GUR) and the greenside bunkers were not as white and harder, but still playable. Everything as a whole was just plain soggy, so better weather may yield better results here. Customer service was top-notch throughout the day, no complaints at all about that. I personally don't enjoy playing mudball, so take this review with a grain of salt if rain golf is your thing. I've said this in the past, I still don't feel this course is worth anything near the rack rate. I guess high end daily fee golf in the OC just isn't my thing. I recommend waiting until it dries out to play here.

Free birthday round. Wonderful deal - everything is provided, including range balls and lunch. Your partners get 1/2 off green fee. Overnight rain stopped, so conditions were ideal. Course was empty, fairways dried up during the day, greens were still fast, no casual water to speak of. Several greens are 2 or 3 tiered. If back pin and you are on lower tier, don't leave it short or else your ball will return. Sand in bunkers was soft despite earlier rain. We walked, to avoid running back and forth across the fairways from a cart path only day. Flat course so walking wasn't strenuous. Layout on most holes allows for recovery from short or sprayed shots. However, on 9 and 18, the water in front and to the sides of the greens swallows less than well-struck/aimed balls. Outstanding day.

Played 11/03/12 morning. Took father-in-law for his birthday round. Can't beat this birthday deal. Free round for B-day person and member rate for others in group. Had lots of fun. I had split impression on the course condition. First the good: the sand. Boy, they had white, fluffy sand in most of holes. Yes, white sand like you see on TV tournament courses. They were fluffy, light - best i've seen and played. The bad: there were many GUR areas. The heat wave last summer must have done some damage. There were some bare/brown spots in roughs and some fairways, and there were some muddy areas. I think they are having hard time balancing between watering to keep the grass green and keeping the ground from getting soggy and muddy. The greens are always top notch here. I just feel for their pain, because this was first time I saw this much damage on their grass. But, in my opinion, TR and Goose Creek are the ones in Southern Cal that I've played that really try hard to keep their condition up to expectation.
I would still definitely take advantage of their deal. As to paying rack rate, I would probably pass for now - maybe wait until their grass heals.

We took advantage of 2 great deals and decided to spend Mary's birthday 10/3 playing where I hadn't been in about 20 years. Using their package for her birthday (including free range balls, walking rate free round, and LUNCH) and my OC Trail card (Thanks to Greenskeeper) we had a great time on a course that looks like it was plucked from the desert and placed in Orange County.

Lush, Lots of palm trees, and a fun layout made for a good challenge. Some of the bunkers had what I think must have been white crushed marble sand. Pure and beautiful.

Starting on the back nine made the second hole (#11) a real awakening. It's a water carry to a beautiful small green. Take a picture here and give it enough club.

The course was in very good condition even after all the HOT weather of the weeks before. We had a great time and it will NOT be that long before we play here again.

Pros- Greens rolled perfect. Layout has some excitement but isn't too flashy. Fairways had some good grass and a handful of dry spots but overall not bad. Pace of play 4 hours on the nose, not bad.
Cons- This course is way too expensive normally. The course had a ton of GUR and the rough was spotchy. Way to much water on the fairways and some spots that were so wet that we could spin out the golf cart... Not recommended.
Overall, not a bad layout, conditions were average or slightly better, greens were nice, Never pay full price.

Played here this morning for the first time, walked on as a single and only waited about 15 mins to get paired up and tee off. I really enjoyed the course and the layout. It was still a little wet out there this morning but not too bad. Tee boxes were all good with only minor uneven portions on some tees, par 3 tee boxes were a little thin and beaten with divots. Fairways were in good shape, however there were quite a few burnt and thin areas and some soggy areas around the greens. Rough was medium length and somewhat penile since the ball tends to set down in Bermuda. I was only in one fairway bunker but just with my feet since my ball was up in the grass above the lip but it felt like there was a good amount of sand in there but was a little damp. I saw at least one or two bunkers on the back though with at least 2 inches of standing water in them. Greens were very soft and able to shoot straight at the pin. Lots of greens have multiple tiers or bowls and make for some very fun shot making at the shorter distances but some frustrating putts if you miss your mark. I fixed at least 2 ball marks per green from the people in front of us and the softness made for a couple bumpy putts from foot traffic. Lots of water comes into play and I was kind of surprised that the course is lined with streets, apartments and houses. I didn't do much research but thought it would be a little more secluded. I do feel that this course would be insanely overpriced at rack rates but they do have a special right now, whatever the outside temperature is, is the dollar amount you pay. So get there as early as possible. Since today was my Birthday though I got to play for FREE, got free range balls and a free lunch and I will say that this is the best birthday special out there and all the employees wish me a happy birthday and were very kind.

Played here last Friday, 8/3 around 7:00 am. Course is in very nice shape, although it probably plays even better than it actually looks. It's all sort of light green instead of a really lush, deep green that you'd expect from the "private course" feel they try to convey. Greens were very receptive, smooth, and sneakily quick if you're not careful, but not ridiculous.

About the only "negative" conditions-wise is that the rough seemed to have a few wet spots here and there, but in at least one instance, this was marked as ground under repair. Otherwise the course was in very nice shape.

One touch I really liked was the long-handled rakes in the bunkers. I'd never seen those anywhere before, and they make it very easy to rake from outside the bunker.

Played this morning at 7 AM on the dollars for temperature deal for $65 including cart. This makes this course a great value as it's in very good condition. Also played in exactly 4 hours at a very nice pace. The course is in really nice condition, the greens hold shots and roll very smoothly. The fairways are in really nice shape and the rough is penal enough if you happen to be in it. Very nice round and with this current price deal through September 15th I'll certainly be back.

I have never played Tustin Ranch, (Gadgetgirl) loves this course! She always played it (twi-light) with the EWGA women's group in the summer but it has been some time.

We read all the reviews that this is the BE$T place to $pend your Birthday round so we decided to book a twi-light rate even though the Birthday player has no restrictions. Twi-light green fees are $45 to walk/$55 to ride since our time was late, wanted to see the entire course via using a motorized cart vs walking.

PACE: Motorized Cart? SUPER SLOW....Took us close to 2 3/4 hrs JUST to play the front nine. At the time, we thought because EVERYONE was $aving money and were going out for the much cheaper twi-light rate.

We expected to wait since we were just a TWO-ball group sandwiched between a 4-ball in front and a 3-ball behind us. We saw the guys in front of us waiting @ the Clubhouse at the turn. We asked to play through, sure, no problem. THESE four players were SEVERAL holes behind! We cruised on the back nine, didn't see ANY players in front of us till hole #15 who were on the green! GEEZ....FRIGGIN Marshal just driving around like it's a day in the park...not doing his job.

Conditions: Since it was my very first time actually on the course, I was very disappointed. Keep in mind, I always heard (GadgetGirl) rave about the conditions at one of her favorite courses in the past. This is why I chose to play Tustin Ranch on her B'day.

We played June 28th - Twi-light rate I cannot IMAGINE how they can have people paying the weekend rack rate of $160 PLUS cart fee!

She was very disappointed as well...ALL the years she has played this course, it was in the worst conditions she has ever seen it. Grant it, most muni's would love to have these kind of conditions right about now. However, the course has the B***S to charge top dollar. Range balls are $14.00 for a large bucket.

Bunkers: Were in excellent condition! The course PROVIDES very long handled Rakes at each and every bunker but players somehow cannot find them? WAY too many deep footprints, unraked bunkers, I even posted a picture and my cell phone couldn't capture it all due to shadows.

Greens: Way to many un-repaired ball marks, WE must have fixed close to 10 per hole each! I told the Marshall after the round, IN one ear out the other! 18th green? Looked like a MOONSCAPE with so many marks, LAZY players in a hurry to EXIT the green vs fixing their marks. Speed? so inconsistently slowwwww....looked fast but weren't AND it's not because they were shaggy.

Suggestion to the course: Instead of having someone from the staff be "concerned" about running to our cart to clean clubs while we are on the green, have SOMEONE from the staff fix & repair the BALL MARKS on the 18th green between groups. There had to be a 1 1/2 hours in between groups arriving ahead of our pace.

Fairways: Browning in spots, casual water in many area's of the fairway, NOBODY uses the 90* rule or even know how to do so, track marks from the carts everywhere. I dinged the rating mainly for the fairway conditions, very disappointing not just my view but from my wife who KNOWS what the course should look like....

Layout: TAKE away the beautiful PAR 3's and the 18th hole, THIS in my opinion is a very boring, predictable,OVERRATED golf course design. There are other choices in the are that I would rather play for the same conditions, $o much Cheaper and more fun to play/walk.

Range: Really? MATS kind of thin, sitting on concrete & people driving by in motorized carts. Gotta be careful not to nail someone walking or driving by..very distracting thinking I might swing and hit someone...

FOOD: Xcellent! Customer service in the restaurant top notch...But I thought it was odd/strange to have the "waiter" explain how to us on how we need to putt on these greens even after my wife said she's played here many times...

Overall: IF you want to use your Birthday round here, it's a great deal! I personally would rather go someplace else that we BOTH could enjoy our day together...
