Course is in very good shape and the greens are nice and fast. The nice thing about them is they are consistent from green to green. Fairway grass is going into the dormant stage for winter and this makes the course appealing to the eye with the contrast between brown and green. Will be heading back next week.

Played Eagle Glen on 10/11. Not visually appealing right now, as the color of the day is brown, brown, brown. That being said, the brown is at least the color of grass and not dirt. There is pretty good grass coverage where it matters. Stay near the fairways, and you'll get a pretty good lie, just on brown grass.

Greens are solid, firm and quick.

Still a great layout, good staff, and I hope it gets back some of its past beauty.

Played on 9/29 and we got out as a 5some. Whoa nelly, were we read the riot act for that. Shame on us for even considering this; how dare we. We're all in the 9-17 handicap range so we were going to be fine as far as pace was concerned and I understand some courses have issues with slow pace of play when there are 5 players and will set a time and day limit for 5somes, but holy cow were we made to feel like an enemy. From the initial phone call to the "greeting" at check in, we were warned in no uncertain terms that being tarred and feathered would be the warm up to what we would experience if we fell behind. As it turned out we had to wait at every tee but, whatever. We took it like men. The warmest greeting, probably similar to the guy who will greet some of us in Hades when we shed our mortal vessels as Marshall Applewhite once said, was reserved to the little white bearded starter at the first tee. Such a quaint little fellow. A couple F-bomb bon mots, a sprinkle of "I don't give a sh#ts" and then off we were sent. Thankfully it wasn't a priest, a monk, a rabbi, an Imam and Pat Robertson who made up our 5some otherwise..... I'll just say, please reassign this guy. A couple of our guys were ready to trim his beard with a 9 iron. The course is in good shape, not spring ready of course but OK. Always a nice layout and some difficult holes with a lot of character. The fairways were very tight in places and very closely mown, bunkers had real nice fluffy sand as I unfortunately found out a couple of times and overall conditions were fine. The greens have mostly recovered from the recent aerating but the speeds are inconsistent and some bumpiness is still there so they need a little more seasoning but they're getting there. We had fun and laughed off the beginning part of our day but I know one of our group may accidentally forget to apply his brakes at the first tee next time.

Played the Guru outing with Larry and Henry on Thursday (17 Aug). Conditions were much better in regards to weather (low to mid 80's vs upper 90's and humid). As for the course, there are a couple of areas that need some work and it appears these are being dealt with. Beyond that, the fairways were very inviting and the ball sat up well enough to take advantage of pin placements. The only real hiccup I can come up with for the course would be the ground crew left the cuttings in the rough on a few holes. This left me with a couple of interesting shots and a nice coat of grass cuttings down in my socks and shoes.

Overall, this is a really fun layout with the exception of one hole that has my number. The greens were quite hard and playing at a nice speed (maybe 10-11 max). I wouldn't suggest this course try for 12 or 13 on the stimpmeter or some pin placements would be severely unfair. Tees had some wear and tear, but nothing too bad. Most tee boxes could use a little bit of leveling and the bunkers could use some softening of the sand (I prefer soft sand green side, and am not a fan of not being able to splash the ball due to sand depth). Beyond that, the course is in really good shape.

Side note: Hit my 7th pin (still no ace) on #10. One of these days that hole will give up the ace... I can feel it. Love the look of 10 and 17, but 17 keeps suckering me into going after the back left pin.

Played in today's GK outing with Larry and Alex. Last time here was about 3 to 4 years ago and noticed significant improvement on condition of fairways since then. Fairways are mostly green with good coverage with some sprinkling of brown thin spots. Tees mostly good and the greens were smooth and rolled well. Was in 2 bunkers. One was thin hardpan but the other had good coverage of sand. It's a course that doesn't play too long from blue tees for the older golfers, with wide fairways and good scenic views. Our group currently plays at Dos Lagos on the other side of the freeway but I'm sure we will be moving over to Eagle Glen next year. Recommended.

Played Eagle Glenn in a GK Guru outing with walnutgolf and Tubedude. Nice afternoon. Not really hot (at least compared to the last time we were there). We followed a twosome but didn’t catch up to them until hole 16 so we finished in about 3 ½ hours.

I think EG is playing great. There are some dry area on the fairways but overall they played just fine. Some of the fairways had some tight lies but I definitely see the improvements they are making. The rough isn’t very thick and is playable. No improvement with the bunkers however. Still pretty hard and difficult to get out of.

The greens were great. Weren’t holding all shots so you had to hit them clean but they rolled very nicely.

I always enjoy playing here and today was a lot of fun playing with the Gurus. Looking forward to the next time.

Played Eagle Glen Friday Aug 4th at 7:56 Check in was quick and friendly. Got out on time. POP was 4:05. It was quite hot and humid. The fairways were as green as I have ever seen them. Several holes had extra ropes blocking cart access so maybe this helped keep the grass in good shape. Tee boxes were fine. Rough was none existent, just barely longer that the fairways. Was not in any bunkers so can not comment on those. Greens were receptive and rolled nice. Our group plays the whites here and the course messed with several tee boxes. Several of the white tees were actually on the blue plates. While many in our groups can handle the extra carry required on those holes, I knew several would struggle, therefore the course did not play true to the course rating for the whites. This was kind of a mixed bag for tee boxes. This is "OK" for the course to do this , but the course needs to update the score card to add a "mixed tee" rating for these mixed tee. Over all I liked Eagle Glen, Some challenging holes, scenery was great.

Played today, 7-31-17. The weather was 98 and very humid. I went as a single and paired with a very nice father and son. I’ve played here a couple times before but it had been about 2 years. My first impression today was that it was the greenest I’ve ever seen it. The view of the course from the clubhouse, by the huge putting green, was just gorgeous. Fairways were mostly green with just a bit of browning here and there. They were very short giving me some trouble with the tight lies but no bad lies all day. On much of the course there really wasn’t any rough to speak of, being cut about the same length as the fairways. There were a few areas closer to the greens were it was a little longer, maybe an inch and a half and very dense so the balls sat up nicely. The greens were pretty nice. They were a bit soft, held shots well and rolled medium fast with just a few little bumps here and there. Of course there were plenty of ball marks… The bunkers were so much better than last time I was here. They appear to all have new white sand. I was in only one, a fairway bunker. The sand was very thin, but no complaints- I still had a long way to go and I was able to get some good distance. The sand in the greenside bunkers looked deep and fluffy but many were wet in the middle. There was a lot of GUR today, mostly affecting the tee boxes. Most were level, some a little chewed up. On #4, the whites were moved up to the red. On #10 the black and and blue tee boxes were closed and moved down to the lower level – about 130 and 122 yds. The bridge to the #16 tees was under repair with a very rocky, bumpy dirt path detour. The red tees on #16 were closed and moved back to the whites. The beverage cart only came around once but there were six water stations on the course. I really like this course. There are so many super fun holes. Highly recommended.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times at Eagle Glen at 1:40pm on a hot sunny Friday afternoon, 7/21/17. Got a GN Hot Deal for $14 and couldn’t pass it up. I joined a threesome of mid-handicap buddies from Riverside who rode each other mercilessly the entire round about the state and execution of their golf games. It was all in fun, and they warned me ahead of time, but the overall effect was relaxed and fun, and we had an enjoyable round. Golf AND a running comedy show!

Conditions were Jekyll or Hyde on almost every hole here – conditions were very good, or conditions were wanting, sometimes on the same hole. Greens were generally pretty firm and had good coverage, but were either lush and held shots or were drier and showing a lot of old ballmark damage. Many fairway areas were lush and full, and gave perfect lies, but other areas were drier, thin/bare, and gave chancey lies. We saw a number of turf patches in some fairways. Rough was either lush and wet/muddy, or cut low and playable, or dried out/patchy/clumpy. Sand was plentiful and good to play from (I was in the front bunker on #5) or impossible (the front bunker on #3 was just semi-wet sandy mud with no playing layer). One of the guys gave up after 6 tries in that bunker on #3. Tees were okay except for being very torn up on par-3s.

We went off right on time just after the starter packed it up and the tee was not crowded – a few holes in we started being passed by singles who were zipping around the course. Saw the cart girl a couple times on the front nine, but she was off after 3pm. There was a wedding setting up as we finished in 4.5 hr, so the parking lot was blocked off and we were sent on a detour to turn in the carts. Shop was closed after 6pm.

I arrived fairly late and basically met these guys on the way to the first tee. They decided to play white and I said that was fine. I hadn’t looked at the card, and had always played blue in the past, so it wasn’t until hole #5 that I took a good look at the card and was disappointed at the yardage differential between blue and white (6,279 vs. 5,552!). It’s awkward to play from different tees than your group, but 5,552 is much shorter than I prefer to play, and in my opinion really alters many of the strategic aspects at EG. The white tees are recommended (on the EG GPS) for handicaps 12 and up (I think), but that looks like a lowball to me. I’m sure people lose a lot of balls out here, and the elevation changes, arroyo crossings, and ESA all contribute to that. But there are a couple of extreme examples of tee distance adjustment under the current card here: the white tee on the par-5 5th hole (the 1-handicap hole) has been moved across the service road and now plays 457 yards. What I believe was the old white tee is back up near the blue – the ball washer is still up there where the tee used to be (it’s no longer watered and the grass is dead). This is a beautiful downhill par-5 to an island fairway, then crossing an arroyo to a heavily bunkered green. Putting the white tee at 457 means it’s 200 yards from the white marker to the end of that island fairway, but a carry of 280 to go for the lower fairway. So you are teeing off on this par-5 with a 5-iron!

Hole 9 is a challenging ridge runner with a mean crosswind – the blue distance of 357 is reduced to 267 at the white, eliminating any arroyo carry. On hole #10, a downhill par-3 to a large undulating green, the white tee is now at the bottom of the slope, across the cart path – 98 yards! The blue tee is at the back of a long box (152 yds) where I’m pretty sure the white used to be, on the forward end of that box. Hole #13 plays 282 and that really takes the cross-bunkers out of the hole – a carry of 150 yards is all that’s needed. #16 has been defanged.

There’s a real need for a white/blue combo set of tees to get up around 6,000 yards and preserve many of the challenges of the design. The card shows a blue/black combo, but no white/blue combo, so any attempt at that would be pretty random and without benefit of rating/slope. After we encountered some of the shorter hole setups we did play some more distant tees, and a couple times the white markers were moved back. I hit from the blue on #5, we played black (185) on #10, blue on #11 and #16 (the 2-hcp; moved across the creek to 280 yards[!], eliminating the arroyo carry). And I hit from the blue tee on #18, the finishing par-5 with an approach over the lake, on which the white tee is now placed at 411 yards!!, which again means a tee shot on a par-5 of <200 yards, unless you can bust one over the lake! (>240).

I like the challenging and varied layout here. I’ve seen conditions better here, and worse. Still recommended.
