Had a great time on Tuesday at Eagle Glen Golf Club. Played with fellow GK Gurus Tubetude, Stickboy, Larryq2001 and Gary00. It was blazing hot so naturally there were very few playing so instead of having us play as threesome & twosome, they allowed us to play as a 5-some provided we did not play too slow. Well, we finished in 4 ½ hours.

This was my third time playing Eagle Glen and like the layout better and better. This time the fairways were not only much more green and lush, they were overall in very good shape. There are still some patching thin areas and some new sod. I’m impressed with how far the golf course has come in improving the fairway conditions and expect them to continually get better. The greens are always very good to great at Eagle Glen and this time was no exception, although not as fast and smooth as my previous rounds here, still mostly smooth and medium/fast. Rough was thin in some areas, a few bare areas on the edges, but mostly grass covered and good to hit from. Bunkers has quality sand although thin but playable. As far as tee boxes, we played the blue tees, they were mostly lush yet many were not level. Overall the golf course was in very good shape.

After golf, I had a bite to eat in grill with stickboy and larryq2001. Ordered the patty melt, delicious. Good service as well.

I played with the gk guru group, teeing off on Tuesday afternoon at about 12:30. The temperature ranged between 95 and 100 degrees throughout the round, so the course was relatively uncrowded.
I was impressed with the practice facilities at Eagle Glen. They have a large driving range with all grass hitting areas. There is also a nice chipping area with a large practice bunker. So, if you play there, give yourself a little time to warm up and get a feel for hitting pitch/chip shots.
As for the course, it's a beauty. A very winding layout that twists though the hills. I found tee shots to be challenging, but fair. The greens were pretty large, for the most part. I would characterize the layout as moderately difficult.
The tee boxes were mostly satisfactory, though some of the moveable tee markers were placed in uneven areas. From tee to green, the conditions were good, though I did find a couple areas of near hardpan just off the fairway. The bunkers were nicely groomed. I found the greens to be a little tricky, but what helped me get the speed a little better was to putt as if the grain grew away from the hills.
Customer service was great in the pro shop. We also dined in the restaurant, and the service was very good there, as well. I also thought the prices in the restaurant were very fair, and the food was really good (I had the French Dip).
Thanks to Johnny and Eagle Glen for a great afternoon. I'll be back!

Played in a GK Guru outing on Tuesday 6/20 with Johnny GK, Gary00, Tubedude and Stickboy. Yeah, we played as a 5 some but we got around in about 4:30. (allowed to play as 5-some due to course being wide-open because of heat) Off at about 12:30 on a pretty warm day. Definitely hotter as the day progressed and I’m guessing it was around 100 but the course was pretty empty.

I last played here about 7 months ago and I can see some improvements from then. Fairways were in good shape so no issues there. Some lies are still pretty tight and some browning but overall in good condition. I have always felt EG is a challenging course. Accuracy off the tee is a must as many fairways are lined with thick brush. Roll out was good. Tee boxes were a bit thrashed and some were uneven. Bunkers were a mixed. I was in a greenside bunker and it was very soft sand. Then the following hole I was in a fairway bunker and it was pretty hard. The rough wasn’t long or very thick.

The greens were a bit grainy. First time I have ever seen that here. They are usually firm and fast but on this day they were medium fast but rolled true.

Despite the heat, it was a great and fun day. I see some good rates out there and I intend on playing here more. It’s definitely worth the rate.

Just got back from an outing with the guru guys: Johnny, Larry, Gary, and Vince on a rather "warm" afternoon. Check-in was simple enough and I was met with a "better you than me out there in that heat" line. I've done worse by far (114 in the shade in Yuma and 117 in Palm Desert come to mind), but this one was a bit rough due to the humidity and haze. Headed over to the range and was able to hit a few shots to the targets set up at the standard yardages. Putting green up front was quick, a bit spongy, and foreshadowed the absolutely frustrating putting day I was about to have.

Headed out on the course as a 5-some (not like there were many other people out in the heat) and we decided to play the blue tees. The course itself is very interesting and could technically be seen as "target golf." While you are not severely penalized (most times) for a miss off the tee, the course does give you hints on where you should be off the tees. Most landing areas are given as the widest part of the fairway and usually just before bunkering on the shorter par 4's. You can decide to bomb it over the bunkers (I did plenty of that after the heat took hold of my thought processes) but you will have to fit the ball into a much smaller landing area.

Tee boxes: I don't think we stood on a single tee box that I would consider "level" (yes, I'm picky about that as I like to use the full tee box depending on the pin position or the shot I want to hit). I think much of that would be due to tee box positions used this day. I spent a great deal of time looking for a spot I was comfortable setting up without being above/below the ball or on a downslope.

Fairways/Rough: Some fairways are hard/short/fast (love this most days) and others are cushioned and lush. The rough is a mix of long and short areas with some tough lies to be found if unlucky. Not complaining as that is the point of rough. Personally, I would like the rough a little longer around the green to allow for a larger variety of shots. There were a couple wet spots on the edges of the fairway and into the rough including a casual water spot I found with a shot. No big deal, but makes me glad to see watering being done.

Greens/bunkers: I wasn't in any of the green side bunkers on the course but did see a few shots that appeared to come from adequate sand conditions. I did get to look at plenty of the bunkers as I was heading to my ball and the other bunkers looked to be about 75% in good condition and 25% in need of additional sand. The greens themselves look to be a mix of grass types leading to afternoon bumping and a mottled look. With the grain, the greens are absurdly fast when you are above the hole (I was up there very often). Against the grain, expect the ball to stop on a dime and break hard. The greens, whether into or with the grain, will take the spin and the ball will dance for you.

Funny/strange aside: Our cart's GPS system refused to work until about the 12th hole. By then we were already using an old yardage book my father game me and my laser. I cannot speak to the accuracy of the cart system but the other units in the group seemed to be more accurate than most I have seen in "mountainous" terrain.

Fairways are still pretty green closely cropped but very tight blades giving good lies and ample cushion. Some areas of GUR conditions and re-sodding in process--does not affect play Rough is fairly short not very penal but more of an issue around the greens being longer and thicker.
Did not play out of any bunkers but by observation they looked ok. Tees level with good cover.
Greens looked slower than they played(but were slower than the practice green)still medium to medium fast--some being a little bumpy and on the softer side--caught a lot of edges just slight mis-reads and some early trouble judging speed mostly because of the slope. These greens are huge with some contours and irregular shape that allows for very interesting pin placements.
Grass driving range in fairly good condition but not as smooth as the fairways.
A very interesting layout with elevation changes, a good variety of holes, quite scenic and with the traps being visible the holes are nicely framed and the white sand provides a good contrast to the green colors.
Friendly easy going staff.

Played 6/4. Course was in overall pretty good shape. Especially nice to play here with the new toll road lane. Practice facilities are in good shape but the putting green continues to be slower than the course. I was expecting lighting greens like two months ago and was surprised to find them a little more manageable.

Tees: Mostly even, quite of bit of divots but no trouble finding a good spot. They were a little up so I suspect they were doing some repair. For instance the 10 blue tee was at the white mark down the hill.
Fairways: Continue to get a little better every round. Never found a bad lie but there were some spots of GUR like on 1, 3, 11. A little more green than March and definitely not rolling out as much (although still a bit)
Rough: Non existent. If it is there, it is thin and pretty spotty.
Bunkers: Luckily wasn't in any but they looked ok. Sounded like there was some depth there when my playing partner hit out of one.
Greens: A little bumpier and longer in length then I am used to for here but still very firm. Rolled true but occasionally had weird breaks around the hole that couldn't be solely from slope.

Overall a great round for the price (25$) would recommend. I figure I just caught the greens on a bad day. Hopefully the fairways continue to improve.

Played today 6/8. Pace of play was a good 4 to 4.5 hours. The greens were hard and fast. I have not played here for about a year and was disappointed with some of the fairways as they had large areas of grass removed and under repair. Not worth full rack rates at this time until those repairs re completed. We were not told about these repairs. Still one of my favorite tracks, but won't be back until repairs are completed or a discount rate is offered.

Played 6/5/17 ..The Eagle has made a nice comeback from the last time I played. Greens roll fair to good, hold the line better than most. Will fool you down hill. You'll have long putts because greens at large. Fairways good, Green, lush. A little standing water in the AM, but not a real problem. Pace of play good. Just around 4hrs. One of the really good layouts in Orang County and Riverside. Less than a 45 minute drive from HB in the morning.

Haven't played or posted much of late. So I looked over recent reviews for Eagle and thought, hmmm - these don't seem to be consistent impressions of the same track. For context here, I love this track but it is well documented on GK by the golf director himself that they are seeking new solutions to maintenance problems here. And with drought and all, things had been pretty dry up until recently.

Driving up, course still looked pretty dry but a ted greener than of late - this panoramic view of the course conditions that you get from the club house was pretty much confirmed upon closer inspection. Turf conditioning is improved overall, with more pad under the ball and the fairways are pretty much clear of any in-growth. Bermuda all the way. That said, it's 50/50 lush versus drier so it's still on the firm side and the ball travels a long way on the ground. A few fairways were recently slit-cut in areas and that was the first sign I got that maintenance is ongoing.

Rough is pretty much non-existent everywhere except around the greens, as it has been for living memory. So there are some iffy lies to be had and no two ways about it, the reason to avoid the rough is not because it's long and penal, but because it's funky thin and penal. Hitting off dirt is not unexpected here. Tees are fine and the sand replacements on the front 9 mentioned on GK by Scott Flowers are visible and much welcomed. Most fairway traps though remain clay and hard-packed.

Either they are getting prepped for green maintenance or they are punting on doing a full aeration for now, but at least 2/3 of the greens showed a light sanding (probably applied in the last 6-10 days) and about 7 or 8 had been slit-cut (16 appeared to have been done very recently, maybe in the last few days). There were few un-repaired ball marks and they were on the firm and fast side, but I thought they were pretty bobbly with the remnant sand and slits.
Also, pins were near edges or tucked on slopes suggesting they were keeping play away from the majority of surfaces in prep for more maintenance.

Clearly they are working towards improvements. but the course remains on the dry and firm side with conditions less than ideal for the most part. I would rate about 6 overall.
