Played the Goose at 1:05PM on Saturday, 3/7/15; booked on the course website for $49. Joined by GKers Rat-Patrol, allan_grant, and sr129 - enjoyed meeting new GKers and playing with all. [!!First time I've ever filled a foursome using the Meet-Play post on GK!!] Surreal weather with NO wind at Goose Creek on a hot sunny, beautiful day, with occasional puffs to take the edge off as we went along. Only time the later breeze affected shots was around 5PM as we were teeing off with a slight crosswind on #17 [OB right - augghhh!!]. Greens were in very good shape - very firm, great turf coverage, rolled well at medium-fast speeds. Mix of lush coverage and some thin areas, with greens showing a lot of footprints on the back nine. Many new and old ballmarks on all greens. Fairways were cut close, firm and dry and provided good lies and lots of roll. As usual, lots of unfilled divots and gouges. Rough was cut short and rarely penal, and areas around greens generally had good coverage and were consistent to chip from. Runoffs near greens were close mown and, with these firm conditions, you could putt from well off the green. Fairway traps were fairly hard-packed and easy to play full shots from. I wasn't in a greenside bunker but others didn't seem to have problems playing shots. Tees were level and close cut - par 3 tees were more torn up, as usual. Check-in was easy and starter got us squared away. Saw the cart girl several times and a roving marshal a couple times. The course was busy but not overly crowded at this time - POP was ~4.5 hr. It's been about 18 months since I was here last and they've enlarged the practice ground and built a new chipping green and a new putting green next to the starter's shack. Always a pleasure playing the Goose, especially with no wind!
