Played in the GK plays 8/31/2015 with Pedro7170, Nickesquire and Kong. We rode the blue tees and was the first group out at 1:22pm. Thanks to Goose Creek GC and Johnny for setting up this GK plays. My first time at Goose Creek and I thoroughly enjoyed the layout, conditions and company. For a first time perspective view I can see why many golfers enjoy this layout. Condition wise first I thought the greens were very healthy. They certainly were not rolling around an 11-12 as advertised but I thought based on the pin placements and the way they have the green complexes developed here the greens are where you will either have a nice scoring day or not. They were rolling true and held shots nicely. Several chips had to be clipped with precision and you certainly did not want to short side yourself on some of the pin placements. In reference to the green complexes for example my 4 iron on 16 looked like it rolled right up to the cup as my playing partners were excited---as we rode up we saw no ball only to realize that it caught the swale just right of the pin leaving a putt from the fringe. This course reminded me some of Rustic/Soule where irons just missing the correct section of certain pin placements could find your ball rolling down to a collection area. I enjoy that short game aspect. The fairways I thought were in good shape--maybe not great shape but very nice. The rough lining some of the fairways was playable. I was in 2 sand bunkers one with a little more of a thin layer than the other but playable. The tees were level and in good shape.

As far as the layout is concerned I would categorize it as very fun, peaceful and semi-challenging. It seemed like all the par 3's were about the same length to me other than the longer uphill 16th hole. The par 5's were very strong and longer. Hole 7 was a great par 5 with a severe risk reward if a player tries to hit two bombs. The 18th hole is as strong as it gets. I hit my best ball of the day trying to carry the lake at the 150 rock with a slight draw to only see my ball hit the side of the hill guarding the lake and bound in the lake. It seems like the course on many holes has ample room to one side and doom on the other side---would not call it wide open or target golf. This is a great layout. My favorite hole was hole number 15.

Practice facilities were really cool...nice big grass range, huge putting green and a nice separate chipping area. I was looking at the twilight rates here and I would be playing here a bunch if I lived in the area. I highly recommend this course.

What a great day at Goose Creek yesterday with a huge GK Plays group. Really had a lot of fun, especially with HmtGolfGuy, allengrant and kg1791 in my group as we attempted to play the blue tees. There were some downright evil pin placements that added ample challenge and the afternoon wind was tough to judge, but the course wasn't set up quite as difficult as we expected. The rough was cut down and not much of a factor and the greens were running about average speeds based on my previous experiences at Goose. Still relatively quick, but not lightning fast as we were all expecting. Don't get me wrong, it was still a very stern test of golf. Otherwise, the course is in very nice shape. By Goose standards, I would just say it's "good" and not "great," but those are Goose standards which we all know to be exceptionally high. Tee boxes great. Fairways mostly excellent with just a few thin spots here and there. I was in a few bunkers and a bit disappointed. One had decent sand, but the other two were relatively thin. With these deep bunkers and pin placements generally right on top of them, that made sand shots almost impossible to get close. Just a few minor quibbles, but otherwise a fantastic day on an always excellent course!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in my first GK event with 36+ GK members. Been around all this GK members and noticing how everyone is so passionate for the game of golf, motivate me to continue to improve my game of golf and continue playing. We had the opportunity to have a tour of the Goose Greek clinic and getting excellent advised about your puttering and chipping techniques.

I had an excellent round of golf with GK members GDR23, Nicksquire and Kong Chuyen. Our tee time was scheduled at 1:22 PM. The weather was just right to enjoy our round of golf. What experience I had. It's wonderful having buddies that have played here before as they guide me and were able to tell me where place your first shot. The golf course was an excellent conditions and very challenging. Not having the opportunity to play in golf courses like this one. To me the greens were spectacular and the ball was rolling beautifully and they were hard to read. The fair ways were in excellent conditions and sand traps had plenty of sand and not hard to get out. But there was some sand traps that were very scary and very deep thank god that I was not in one of them. The tees were in good condition and most important they were level. The customer services from management and employees was excellent; everyone one was very happy and ready to assist you with your needs.

After the game, all members got together and enjoy the wonderful gifts provided by Johnny. GK's management and members, thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful and positive experience.

Wow, so lucky I was able to play the GK event in my backyard home course. What a great bunch of people I met today, finally able to meet Johnny, and it was an honor, Sir. Great short game clinic and tour of the Lorena Ochoa training facility. Of course the playing at Goose was awesome, thanks to Johnny for the lovely parting gifts and my new ball marker, I will use it every round. Looking forward to playing in my next GK event.

Played in the GK Plays with GDR23, Pedro7170 & Cthuyen for $50 including a cart & prizes afterward. Thanks to Johnny GK for another well executed GK Plays! We played the Blues (71.6/127/6556) in 4H, 10M, so POP was good. Previous reviews were spot on, the customer service was excellent and the course was in excellent condition. Nice touch having the short game clinic beforehand, thanks! The tees were well maintained, no issues with level lies and the coverage was good. A few par 3's needed divot attention. Both the fairways and the rough were very good, more lush than thin. Nice lies in the fairways & the rough could be penal even though not overly long. The traps were crusty but not in bad condition overall. I was in 2 and they played better than I would have expected based on the way the texture felt under my shoes. The large greens putted nice overall, firm, more medium speed than medium fast. The pins were certainty set in tournament mode for the SCGA Mid-Am qualifier with many barely on the green, tucked behind mounds etc. Challenging to get chips close to some of the tucked away pins on the firm surface. However, the speed of the greens was slower than expected. They certainty did not seem to be running at the advertised 11 to 11 1/2. I thought the practice putting green was actually quicker than most of the greens on the course? I love this layout, 1st time I had played here in about 5 years. Course knowledge is essential on many holes to know where not to miss around some of the large green complexes. Around numerous greens are runoff areas where you are unlikely to get the ball up/down if you miss there. Well above average course that has 18 good to excellent golf holes. #18 is a classic finishing hole, long par 4 with water prominently in play on every shot. Easily one of the more enjoyable and fun to play courses I have ever teed it up on.

Played in the GK Plays outing yesterday 8/31/15 for $50. The price included a small tour of the Lorena Ochoa Golf Academy building, a short wedge clinic and a round playing in USGA mid-am qualifier conditions. Course conditions weren't as tough as I thought they would be but it is a good thing since my game decided not to show up.

Tee boxes were as good as always. A couple on the long side but flat and no damage. Fairways were awesome on the very few I was on and were a little dried out and gave some good roll. Even though the fairways were playing a little drier they were still very lush with only a couple thin areas that I saw. Rough was cut at about normal length in the 1"-3" range and coverage was really good. I was in two bunkers and both were crusty on top and not much sand underneath. Greens were said to be running at 11 to 11-1/2 but they seemed slow to me. I left way too many put really short thinking it would be quicker. A few were just bad strokes on my part too.

Met some great guys out there yesterday and my playing partners couldn't have been nicer. Thanks sr129, lotrgolfer and sngernz. I know I didn't meet too many new faces yesterday, I try to only learn a few at a time so I remember. So next time I look forward to meeting more. Finally got out to a GK plays, this one at Goose Creek out in the Riverside area. Johnny got us a great deal ($50) which included a neat short game session at their hi-tech golf academy with Scott and his crew who were giving semi-private chipping lessons. Much thanks, guys. If I lived anywhere near here I'd be hanging out and working on my game on a regular basis. The Goose always puts on a great show and today was no exception as far as conditions are involved (other than a crusty greenside bunker on #13 which I shouldn't have been in anyway). Best of all, we had the course all to ourselves today as we played behind the USGA Mid-Am qualifier. [Sorry to hear that fireballa24 didn't make the cut but there's always next time.] Had a great time playing with lotrgolfer48 (nice 310 drive on #12), mnehls86, and sr129. Super fun guys to golf with. And thanks again to Johnny for the swag and setting this up for us.

I participated in the GK Plays Event today at Goose Creek Golf Club, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. This was my first time playing the course, so I played without any knowledge or expectation. The course, for the most part, is right there in front of you, except for the green complexes. The green complexes are set up to receive approaches from preferred angles - the only way to figure them out is to play the course a few times. Wind was a factor in the late afternoon, but it helped cool an otherwise warm and humid day. Chilled water was available from water coolers adjacent to several tee boxes, and drink cart service came around several times on both front and back nines. Pace of play was under 4 hours 30 minutes - our group didn't have to wait, nor were we pressed from behind. I played from the blue tees, which on this day were mostly set all the way back to accommodate USGA mid-am sectional qualifying. Tee boxes were level and lush, with only minimal divot damage on par 3 holes, but good teeing ground was easy to find - tees penetrated the ground easily. Fairways were in good condition, with mostly uniform turf coverage. I played from good lies on all of my fairway shots. Rough was generally lush, and not as deep nor as penal as I was expecting. I had to play from 1 fairway bunker, and 1 greenside bunker. Both had adequate, well maintained sand. Rakes were distributed around each bunker for easy tending. The greens, though difficult to approach on this day of USGA mid-am sectional qualifying, were some of the best that I have played recently. They held well hit approaches, while offering plenty of roll out for chips and pitches. Being that I played late in the afternoon, there were some footprints and ball marks, but otherwise the surfaces were smooth. Putts rolled true at medium to fast speeds - I really enjoyed putting on these greens! I look forward to returning to play again at the Goose - recommended.

Pretty stellar day at Goose Creek for the GK Plays. It was a top notch outing from start to finish. Really perfectly organized and efficient, yet relaxed, in every way. Worth every cent. The course was terrific. Challenging? Without a doubt, especially from the blue tees set up for the upcoming big tournament. But good shots would certainly be rewarded here, just hard to come by. We played the back 9 first and I found it to be somewhat trickier than the front 9, except for the par 3s - wow - not sure I can think of many courses with such diabolical par 3s. Layout is just phenomenal. Conditions were excellent. Minimal dry areas in the fairways and only one or two greens with slight damage - but the rest were superb - and very hard to read/judge speed. Also many collection areas lie in wait around the green complexes, so be wary. The tee boxes were all good, but even better were some of the beautifully shaped tee box launch areas, framed by tall bamboo or trees. The one time I was in sand it was very nice, but I also heard no complaints from my playing partners ... that was fun you guys. Service, frequent cart girl stops and plenty of ice cold water on almost every other hole made it all pretty great, especially on a hot day. Perhaps only small complaint would be to update the carts a bit - in such a hot place at minimum coolers with cold ice would be a huge upgrade. But don't let that take anything away from GC. What was odd was that it seemed like it was a rather long round, but I'm pretty sure we finished in just over 4 hours, but we never really waited on a single hole, nor were we ever pushed from behind. We just took our time (as I suspect many others did) enjoying the great scenery and the wonderful conditions. Goose Creek. Highly recommended.
