Same old same old at the Goose on Saturday morning, 4/6/13. Greens almost perfect, even though they are aerating starting Sunday 4/7. Good lies in the fairways, rough consistent, sand in good condition (and raked) in fairway and greenside bunkers. Saw cart girl and marshall frequently. Large warmup area. Greens on the course a little quicker than the putting green. Always recommended.

I generally like writing reviews and I like Goose Creek. So why do I hate writing reviews about the Goose Creek? Probably because the course is so consistent that I never feel there is anything interesting (i.e. different) to say. I like to entertain myself a little with these reviews, but there's no traction in "once again, consistently well conditioned, accommodating and friendly services, great practice facilities, etc., etc." But… once again, consistently well conditioned, accommodating and friendly services, great practice facilities. Met a buddy out at Goose Creek around midday on Thursday. He was late and they were booked until 2:00, but shortly after he showed up late for our tee time, they had us going out, no problem. Course was busy but generally moved along. I could get specific, but why? It was all good; quick greens, good lies, slightly firm bunker sand, and I didn't get any sense of winter conditions, if there ever were any here. Oh, and they'll be punching the greens in a couple of days, so there is that to consider. Of course I recommend it, of course I'll be back, of course I'll enjoy it, and of course I'll hate writing the review. D%mn Goose.

Got out to the Goose with some buds before the greens get punched next week, and what a great day of golf. You can tell the employees like working here, all are helpful and friendly ... from the guys behind the counter to the young guy in the cart barn. Somehow, even the golfers here pay more attention to POP, raking, and fixing ball marks, than most other public courses I play. Reading the other posts, I think that's true. Anyway, most of us know the Goose runs a tight ship and we were exactly on time, 11:07, and got around in about 4:15, $40 w/cart, senior rate. As 'mnehls86' mentioned in his previous post, conditions are very nice from tee to green, not much more to add. Just need to adjust when the afternoon wind kicks up. Was pleasantly surprised that they did a trim job on those two trees on the right side of #13, a short par 4. Those trees have been a thorn in my side since I've been playing here but today, no problem. The only suggestion I'd give is to be aware of collection areas near the greens that seem to be hidden from sight on your approach. They will surely suck in any wayward shot ... chipping up to these greens can be a test and can lead to an easy bogey, and could be avoided if you know where they are. Recommended. Best IE course you'll find other than Oak Quarry.

Always a pleasure to make it out to Goose and I wanted to be sure to get out before they aerated starting this weekend. Check in went smooth about 10 mins before our tee time and he sent us right out. Started out playing the whites as a twosome through the first 4 holes and joined up with a couple older guys playing the blues on the 5th when pace slowed down a little. Course isn't very long from the blue tee's so we played back with them, I thought it would be a lot tougher with the afternoon wind from back there but we still played well. Tee's are nice and flat, fairways nice and lush, rough was perfect aside from a couple bare area's. Ball sat up in the rough most of the time so it wasn't punishing at all. I was only in one fairway bunker that had plenty and maybe too much sand for being a fairway bunker but sand was great and soft and green side bunkers looked to be in great shape. Rough around the bunkers and trees definitely make everything pop and looks awesome. Around the greens were perfectly manicured collars and the greens themselves were in good shape rolling quick but a lot of players not fixing ball marks and they did slow down a little towards the end of the round. Plenty of false fronts around the greens also make for a more challenging round but luckily my irons into the greens were on all day but a couple of my playing partners really struggled on a couple holes. Pace was good at just a touch over 4 hours even waiting in between almost every shot from the 5th hole on but the wait was always very short. 18th hole ate me up again so it looks like I will have to get back out once the greens are all healed to redeem myself.

Played Thursday, 3/28. The course does not make single tee times so I showed up at 6:30am and was 1st on the wait list. Fog delay pushed back tee times but I joined the 3rd group out around 7:15 am. The group were regulars who advised they play "fast," I took that challenge and we finished around 3 1/2 hours.

Conditions lived up to expectations. Flat, damage free tee boxes. Lush fairways that looked like no one has played there in a month. Rough was gradual, up to about 4" as you get farther from the fairway. I was only in 1 bunker and it as a fairway one. It had some small pebbles in it. Greens were great, nice and really fast. I was surprised by the amount of unrepaired ball marks.

Customer service is kept to a minimum, and that's not bad. Lug your clubs up and check in. Get called to the tee over the PA. everyone was super friendly. With the thick fog, the starter acted as a forecaddie and spotted the opening drives. Large driving range and putting green.

Great course but local knowledge is needed. Fairways more open then they appear and bunkers placed in spots to make the green look closer. Trust the yardages. $39 walking/$49 to ride weekday morning. Can't witto get back out.

Played on 3/9 at about noon. Course looks great. Tee boxes are flat and have plenty of lush grass, fairways are the same. Rough was lush and very manageable. Greens were smooth and true with some ball mark damage. I wasn't in any sand but my playing partners were and they hit several good shots out of them. Only downside was pace of play. This course is usually known for a good POP but today wasn't the case. Checked in an hour before our tee time and the desk told us we'd be on time. Ended up going out a half hour late, then proceeded to have a wait on every tee box, with there being 2-3 groups on an box at a time, playing overall in about 5 hours 15 minutes.

Weather conditions: Sunny 60's plenty of wind 10-15mph.

Course was busy, plenty of golfers for a TUESDAY!

GREENS: I expected the faster speed, the starter announced the greens are running much much quicker to all the players. So on the first hole? Player in our group was about 15 feet away, ended up close to 40 feet away. OOPS! Obviously it put the thought out there to the remaining of us to be more careful. For the remaining 17 holes, greens speed was very consistent, rolled true, no bumps. However because of the PAR 3's that have so many more undulations, Flag stick locations were in dangerous spots!

EX: Hole #11 I landed my chip shot into the APRON (fringe) to be short of the hole location w/my 60* wedge (Srixon Z-star). It rolled out.....slowly.....slowly.....We all thought it was perfect! NOPE....ball picked up speed THEN down past the hole, all the way down into the collection area some 40 feet away. :(

TEE Boxes: Excellent conditions! Just a note, some on the back nine the ground was harder than expected. Hole #17 PAR 5 broke my tee while inserting no more than 1/2 way into the ground surface, playing partners had the same experience.

BUNKERS: Perfect consistent sand and I found enough of them & was able to recover with no problems of the ONE's I $ampled!

CUST SVC: Beverage cart came by to check on us, I requested if she had any sandwiches on the cart. Was informed there weren't any but would go back to the clubhouse & pick up a fresh one for me. Perfect timing since were on hole #10 and was back by the time we reached the green and waited on the Par 3! Guys in the pro shop & staff all friendly and easy to talk with it during check-in.

FAIRWAYS/Rough: I decided to leave this topic last so it wouldn't see like my experience was "NEGATIVE" from the beginning. The rough is the perfect length, not too tall but consistent should your tee shot not find the fairway.

The fairways are very playable but in my opinion on this day, LESS than what I have seen them for this time of the year. Not the usual lushness & greenness if there is such a term. DON'T get me wrong, ball would sit up just fine from the fairway, easy to get a fairway or hybrid for those PAR 5 approach shots, JUST not up to the standard I have seen in the past when I have played the course.

With that said, I gave the fairways a 6 out of 10 rating and will be interesting to see what my course rating number will be.

LAYOUT: LOVE IT! whenever I say to someone I'm playing GOOSE CREEK and they are not playing it, makes people so jealous! HA. One other note, Hole #14 PAR, the RIGHT side of the fairway rough is no longer penal & thick. The long/short hitters can actual try to cut the korner and not be penalized by the current rough.

I really don' have anything to add to the recent reviews about this track. It is in almost perfect condition! Tee boxes level and plenty of clean spots to hit from. Fairways-greens and rough just top notch.
POP was 4:15 and we only waited for a couple of minutes on #2 and #9.

One thing I would like to touch on is the practice facility. I think it is among the finest in the inland empire. Lush grass range,nice chipping area and a bunker to work on your sand game from. I am in the middle of some lessons here and really like my Instructor. They have all of the latest electronic gear and can really give you detailed info on your swing along with hands on corrections. When I was leaving a bunch of the instructors were in the middle of a good sized clinic for little kids. Must have been close to 20 kids all hitting balls on one side of the range. I'm not positive but I believe that that theses clinics and free or less than $10.
