Played here 6/26/18 for the first time in over six years. This has been one of my favorite courses despite the over an hour drive required to get there, so I was looking very much forward to playing it. Unfortunately, the overall conditions were nowhere near what I had remembered, and that took away from enjoying the day. My partner and I teed off about 8:30, and noticed right away as to how wet basically the entire first hole was. After hitting my third shot onto the left side of the blind (uphill) green and seeing a puff of sand, I thought I had hit into a bunker that wasn't there previously. When we drove up to the green, we saw that much to our surprise, the entire green was covered with 2~3 inches of sand. Although seeing that the second green was not sanded eased our concern, we eventually discovered that four greens including the 18th were heavily sanded. Nice way to start and finish a round indeed, and not a word was mentioned about any greens being sanded at check-in. Seeing that the same finding was mentioned in my fellow GK'er's review on 5/30/18, is there an ongoing problem with maintaining greens here? Fairways in general were thick and although not as wet as the 1st Hole, it seems like they over watered everywhere. Muddy bunkers with puddles attested to that fact. In my previous experience, tee shots to sloping fairways on this course required aiming to the high side as the ball always rolled quite a ways down to the low side, but not yesterday. The thickness and the wetness of the grass literally stopped the ball from rolling and left me with a number of second shots with the ball well above my feet. It was especially challenging if my ball had entered the rough on the high side as the ball just stayed there. It's all a part of the game, but a bit more fairness would go a long way for a non-professional like me to enjoy playing. I still like the layout of this course, but it will be a long time before I return if I don't see better reports of course conditions soon.

Played Fri Jun 22nd. Had a 706 tee time, check in was friendly, but the restaurant was late opening and had to settle for a breakfast sandwich to go. Ok Hidden Valley take notice, Your starter is way to much of a control freek and can really ruin the start of a round, telling me to park behind 2 cart when I knew that was our second group putting and we were next on the tee, tell him to lighten up!!!!!!!!. Course conditions were a surprise, expecting full dry summer conditions we got mid Dec conditions, greens had no sand but were slow and speed was inconsistent from green to green, traps were nothing but mud, but that is usual for HV. Group in front of us started playing whites and decided to change to blues on the back nine, they should have stayed on the whites, we got to several holes and they were a 9 iron from the whites tee box, hitting from the blue, really slowed us down on the back nine, POP was poor at 4:35, won't return for at least 6 months, better value and service, LS, Goose, Mile Square, JMHO

While this is one of my favorite courses I found the conditions poor overall. It appears that they have sanded all of the greens and left sand all around. Additionally the holes appear to be uncut or moved for several days since they were overgrown and raggedy and not even round. Also the sand traps were mud and impossible to play well out of. This appears to be just a recent issue.

Played here 4/21 with my friend and dad. Tee time was 6:30 but we ended up going out at 6:15. POP was great we finished in 4 hours with a threesome. We were being pushed by a twosome behind us but we knew they were going to have to wait on the par 3's because we were a threesome and they were only a twosome. Course conditions were great! Greenest I have ever seen the course with no over watering and very little dead spots. GPS on carts was nice EXCEPT going down hill with the GPS automatically making you crawl.... Greens rolled true. I was in the sand once and it seemed ok.... probably needed a little more sand in the trap. Tee boxes were flat and even. Hole 15 had some minor damage on the green from stupid kids doing donuts on it. It was under repair. I have always loved playing here. Jordan in the club house is a great manager!

Played today 4/12. Hadn't played here in over 6 months and forgot how tough some of the holes were, especially with the uphill lies. The greens and fairways were the best I have seen it in awhile. ... Continue »

Played today 4/12. Hadn't played here in over 6 months and forgot how tough some of the holes were, especially with the uphill lies. The greens and fairways were the best I have seen it in awhile. Unfortunately Green #15 had been recently vandalized and the course is doing their best to repair it. It appears someone decided to do donuts on the green. Also the sand traps are in need of some sand most were hard packed dirt. However despite that it was still a fun round and missed the high winds. Overall staff were great and the food at the clubhouse has improved greatly.

Played Fri Mar 2nd at 736, there was rain forcast and the parking lot was empty. Check in ok and got out on time POP was 4 hours. Our group commented many times that they were not happy with the conditions. The first 3 greens had lite sand and it really affected the speed, then we got to some holes with no sand and then farther on more sand, very inconsistent and was disappointed, a few tee boxes had level issues and a few had bare spots, fairways looked like they were not watered and were winter dormant or just there to let what ever wild grass grow, fairways were hard and ran, bunkers as always here were mostly dirt. They did have new carts with new GPS which were nice, but the GPS should have located the carts in front of you as Eagle Glen does since there are some real blind spots, the carts were very annoying with the speed control down hill, I mean the said 7 mph but were doing about 2. I like hidden valley and I shot well at 87 but for $46 and the condition there are allot better values out there.

Played Hidden Valley for the first time with Orangegolfer and Larrryq2001 on Wednesday mid-morning for $44 including cart, I believe their standard weekday rate. These two guys are friendly gents, and great golfers, and both had nice rounds from the blues. I hacked it around from the whites. We waited on the tees throughout the round, and forgot to notice when we finished. It must've been close to a 5 hour round. You could see lots of golfers on every hole from the many panoramic views this course provides.

White tee boxes were pretty rough, with divots galore on most. A handful had mounds and slopes to deal with. The whites/blue markers were paired together on the par5 15th hole, presenting us with a downslope for the entire legal teeing area.

Fairways were in winter condition, a bit wet from rain, and had evidence of a recent punching on a few holes. Inconsistent grasses and thin at times. But, generally, the ball sat up well and were easy to take decent shots w/divots. On three holes, had approach shots land and then roll backwards 20-40 yards before finding a comfy spot that pleased it. Had other sideways kicks that went plenty more. Between this feature, various blind shots and several ill-conceived/placed forced carries (imho) reminded me of the now defunct Champions at the Retreat course on multiple holes. Rough was inconsistent in length. Water in several bunkers.

Thought the greens were in very good/great condition and certainly the best feature of the course. The putts on the practice green were lightening fast, with the ball rolling down slopes, 20-30 feet before finding a spot to settle in. On the course, a little less stupid, and the greens held shots fairly well. They were actually soft to walk on, which helped them to not be a total menace to putt. They were still very fast, and with the many undulations and slopes, the ball could easily end up 4-6 feet past the hole on a downhill 10-footer, or take the ball 30 feet plus away from the hole as it took the slope away from the hole. Greens were indeed lush, and in spite of a number of repaired divot marks, ball rolled excellently and smooth, with few bumps along the way.

Saw the cart lady on both 9s. The course could use toilet facilities on the front, and more water jugs throughout. GPS on carts worked very well, allowing you to pick a spot on the hole to measure hazards, etc. Of note, the GPS provides front/back of green and a target marker in the center of the green, that is indeed for 'center of green', not the flag location.

Would like to come back in late spring/early summer and try the course again. Great scenery and views almost make up for my minor gripes about the course design. For my short-hitter game, this course presents an extra challenge and required a few silly layups with wedges, even after good drives (210-220yds) from the whites, to avoid hazards that I would have a very tough time carrying with a 5 or even a 3 wood.

Played here Thursday 2/6/18 @ 7:00am. When I got to the course I thought they were shut down because there was only 3 cars in the entire parking lot. It was just a slow day for them though. I went out by myself as a single and played in 3 hours! Some of the par 3's I played 2-3 balls since there was literally no one on the course. The course is in fantastic shape! Tee Boxes were lush and spongy, greens rolled true and beautifully manicured. Fairways were green and short and people have been replacing their divots and scuffs on fairways and greens (Which should always be done guys!) I was in 1 sand trap and the sand was a little compact for my liking.... Overall staff was friendly and POP was great. Never saw the cart girl but obviously with only 3 cars in the lot they were not going to have one.

Got out with good friend, Mike. Paired up with two great gentlemen from LAPD, we played from blue tees and Mike played from the white tees. First the tee boxes are historically an issue at Hidden Valley with bumps, uneven boxes but I was very pleased with the conditions of the tee's all very level, easy to find a good spot to put your peg in. Fairways were in good shape, tight and a few wet spots but good drives were rewarded with a decent lie, except where the slags didnt repaid their divots (come on, just put some sand in your crater) Rough was thin and some bare spots. Bunkers were an issue which is normal for the Inland empire from all the wind we experience, hard packed with the clay bounce we are used to, so you must create your sand with the big downward blast. Greens were medium fast and rolled good. It was an enjoyable round and I was happy to see how green the hills of Norco looked at Hidden Valley.
