Played Oak Quarry for the first time in a several years. It was very good the last time we played it but it was great today. Customer service was excellent in all areas. Staff were very friendly, professional and sought to meet our needs. The course was in outstanding condition in all areas. Well the sand traps were okay. It was a pleasure to play Oak Quarry.

Was able to make it out to play here last second on my way back from palm springs...I had my father in law with me for his first time at the quarry and he thought it was very scenic and fun. When the wind is up, as it was, this course can be quite the bear... Bunkers seemed to have improved quite a bit since I was last there...ONLY COMPLAINT... I dont know if this is normal but, golfers cmon fix your D@nm ball marks. The greens were littered with divots everywhere. Untouched. I must have repaired 5-7 every time I walked to the green.

Offering a perfect combination of visual dramatics and a very well-conceived layout that serves to not only challenge one's game but also please the eye, Oak Quarry has quickly earned a spot on my list of favorite courses to play in Southern California. This was just my second visit (first was in late January) and I'm already looking forward to the next opportunity to spend another day there. Having been subjected to 40+MPH winds during my initial look I was prepared for more of the same but conditions were much more benign this time out and that was reflected in the score, despite playing it at 6600 yards Saturday vs. 6028 yards at the beginning of the year.

Carved out of the abandoned Jensen Quarry, the green fairways provide a striking contrast to the white marble and pegmatite cliffs that dominate the center of the layout. The architects did a masterful job of thoughtfully incorporating the quarry into the design in order to achieve a look that is very unique. This provides a great level of excitement as you prepare to hit the shot-at-hand which, in turn, only serves to up the ante on the "WOW Factor". Elevation changes abound and the player who can maneuver the ball off the tee and into some tight pin positions should find Oak Quarry to be a shotmaker's dream. And the diverse variety of holes will hold your interest from Holes 1 through 18; it's one of those rare layouts where each hole has its' own identity.

Course conditions were very good; hard to find any fault with the fairways at all despite a few soft areas where my tee shot didn't get any roll out whatsoever. Greens were healthy as well...some evidence of neglected ball marks...and the speed was on the medium side. For the most part, they rolled fairly smooth, but there was quite a bit of Poa Annua in the greens that I felt caused a few well-struck putts to "wobble" and, therefore, fail to roll true and maintain their line. Approach shots held nicely yet gauging whether or not a greenside chip shot would check up was somewhat unpredictable.

Rough was at a manageable length..about 3" or so...yet could be a problem if the ball settled down into it. Angle of attack had to be steep in order to get the club on the ball and make good contact from the fairway rough; didn't have to deal with the long stuff around the greens so I can't offer any opinion on that. Bunker sand was firm yet playable; be forewarned, however, that many of the bunkers have high faces which require a shot that must get up quickly...and that includes the fairway bunkers as well.

Oak Quarry can be enjoyed by just about any level of player as there are multiple tee boxes to choose from with plenty of shot options to keep everyone challenged without feeling like they're being beaten up. Split fairways, bail-out areas, collection areas around the greens to allow multiple chipping options...these are just a few examples of the design features incorporated by the architectural team that serve to make this golf course one that everyone can appreciate.

Somewhat smallish range with some good/some bad range balls but it's fine for warming up before the round; wouldn't consider it as a place to do any extended practicing (although the view is nice). I don't consider the practice green to be very large either but there's adequate room to get a few putts in without feeling too crowded. There's also a small chipping/bunker area located to the right of the practice range.

Staff was very friendly and courteous...from the Pro Shop to the Cart Attendants to the Starter, Mike, who was very pleasant to chat with. Also want to give a well deserved nod of appreciation to Tom, one of the staff members, who was able to locate a misplaced digital camera ($$$) that happened to end up in a golf cart a couple of holes ahead of us. The golf course is a real treat to play and the accommodating staff simply enhances the experience. Well done gentlemen.

Anyone who has played Oak Quarry need not be reminded of its' place among the daily-fee courses we have at our disposal. For those of you who have not had the pleasure to tee it up at this fine facility...do yourself a favor and make it a priority to play there. If you have any appreciation for the natural beauty that Mother Nature and a team of golf course architects can put on a "canvas", Oak Quarry will not disappoint.

Played 5/11/12. One of my all-time favorites in SoCal. However, on this day, greens were rolling as if on a waffle iron. Very receptive, but had been sanded two days prior, and did not even appear to be cut, much less rolled. Dissapointing. On the plus side, fairways were near perfect. I'd rate them a 10. Green, firm enough to get some roll, but just enough cushion under the ball which produced nice filet like divots. Beautiful. Bunkers were also in good shape. Plenty of sand, albeit kind of heavy and coarse, in each of the 4 that I visited, and no complaints from playing partners. A vast improvement from last spring / summer. Great service, which began in parking lot. Nice range facility, good people throughout. The layout is truly unique and spectacular. Highly recommend...but hope to find smoother surface on greens next time.

Played our men's club tourney on Sat 5/1. Course was in great shape, lush (couple spots that were still brownish but grassy, tee boxes were fairly level, fairways had good roll, rough was 2-3 inches but playable, greens were lush with very few ball marks rolled med fast and true, bunkers were a bit disappointing hard pan with very little sand. Customer service was good, except they forgot to call us up when our club started out. There was another group out before us and that led to a 5 hr round. All in all a great golf day, and shooting below my hcp (86) helped a lot. lol

You need to get out early for the best green conditions. due to the fact that there are several types of grasses on the greens. they tend to get a bit slower in the afternoon. we got out at 7:20am finished By noon and the greens were excellent rolling at a 10 or so. course is in great shape. time to take advantage.

I had the pleasure of playing here on 4/23 6:40AM in a cool and misty morning. It was nice change going from 105 to 60 deg. One of the best layout / scenery golf course I've had the pleasure of playing. Condition of the fairways were borderline good / great. While we were playing, staff was still trying to finish up mowing the grass and fix up bunkers so probably played in best condition possible for this course. Bunkers were all fluffed up so I liked it while my playing partner hated it. We were 3rd group out and until the 14th hole, we didn't catch up to the 3 some in front of us so we finished the round just under 3.5 hrs. Probably would have finished 3:15 min if no one was in front of us. Main strength of this course is varying hole length and scenic quarry. Views are something to behold. Greens condition did leave me with the thought of what if their greens were as good as Indian Wells? I would highly recommend golfers who like variety and enjoy scenic views. Best of all, with the early morning discount, course can be played for less than $55 during weekdays. It was so worth the greens fee.

Played Friday 4/20, out @10:45 with my wife and paired up with a two-some—two gents who were pleasant company. I love getting to play this course and it was the first time for my wife, who rarely gets to play, much less practice. Pace was on the slow side which worked to our benefit in that she didn't have to stress about keeping up. It ended being over 4.5 hours and we were less than a hole behind by the end, so the general pace was not brisk, but OK for a busy course on a Friday. It was hot but not brutally so, given what hot can mean in these parts, with no more than light breeze throughout the day. Tee boxes were good and level or close to it. Coverage was good tees through greens with the fairways in good shape. Drove into a divot lie on one hole but still managed to get it on the green and it was the only bad lie I can remember all day. The greens have their usual piebald pattern of light and dark but rolled on the fast side, smooth and true. The exception was the second green which was a bit scruffy in comparison to all the others. I was only in one bunker all day and while probably on the firm side of the bunkers at other courses, it was much improved over the truly firm, grainier surface they used to have. Personally, I am way more comfortable playing out of these bunkers than fluffy one. Service was sharp and friendly and we probably saw the beverage cart about four times. I complained in a previous review about the condition of the range grass (virtually hardpan) on that day, but on this day it was perfect. A good day on a great course—an excellent experience all around.

One of my very favorite golf courses! The overall condition was excellent, although I found the greens to be a bit too slow for my taste. (Still show signs of the recent punching it appears) Otherwise the course is in great condition.

The staff was as always - fantastic! Its probably a good thing this course isn't closer to my home, or I'd play here a whole lot more often!
