Paid $70 in the afternoon (2pm start) out of desperation for a round without driving too far... kinda regret it. Conditions still not worth the price, many bare spots or funky lies in fairway landing areas and crummy bunkers are the norm. Rough is grown to a couple inches but some holes have a gopher hole problem in the rough. Greens are great, but worth the price? Methinks not. Managed to get the front 9 done in about 2.5 hours, the marshal found us on 4 tee and recommended just going off 1 again instead of waiting more on the back 9, so I split from the threesome I was paired with and got another 6 holes in before dark. Hate to support these prices but that's Saturday golf for you. Biggest joke here might be the $50 rate for 9 holes.

Not much changed since the 2 week closure for overseeding. Teeboxes still pretty crummy, uneven and chewed up. Fairways are very pleasant to hit off of and also roll drives out nicely, greens were kinda shaggy but rolled true, some parts bumpy. There was a dead gopher in a trap on the 14th teebox. Great POP on the front but horrendous on the back, three singles joined up and ended up waiting on another threesome every shot, playing like they were on TV.

$60 for a 12:30 teetime feels high given the conditions, some parts of the fairways and rough are just not great, plus you have to try not to hit the locals fishing the lakes on the back 9. I guess the layout keeps me coming back, that and Tukwet was all booked today.

Got a "hot time" on GolfNow, $55 with cart for 2 players at 1:50. There was no starter, my buddy and I teed off around 2:00 due to being silly gooses, also joined by another player who got the 1:50 deal and was also running late.

Conditions are good with some bad spots. Teeboxes unlevel at parts, but actually cut. Fairways are great, even managed to hit a perfect dinger 4-wood out of a sandy divot. The rough is thinner in some parts and more punitive in others. Greens rolled great but were VERY soft - a high-flighted 7 iron from 160 plugged very deep in the 14th green and every shot that hit a green from a well-struck iron left a huge divot. They felt kind of... spongy? and have some tricky less-than-you-think breaks around the holes.

The 'hot deal' is probably the only way I would play a full round here. I just don't think it's worth full rate, they actually will charge $50 for 9 holes on the weekends.

There is a grill/snack bar/booze bar in the clubhouse now, didn't partake in a glizzy but they gave my playing partner the last of the morning coffee for free, and it didn't taste half bad and was strong, so, that's something. No beverage cart to speak of, despite plenty of other people out on the course.

The pro shop elected to let me on at 5:00pm (hooray!) and insisted that I take a cart even though I wanted to walk (understanding that it's very hilly terrain). Cart didn't have GPS and had the speed governor turned up a fair bit. That said, I'm glad they reversed their previous decision and let me out in the premium twilight hours. Was able to make it around in 2.5 hours with no one in front or behind.

This remains a really tough track - accuracy off the tee is a must, and many landing areas are obscured by hills or fairway bunkers. Plays 6300 from the white tees, which was plenty of challenge for this average golfer. Rough tangles your club up if you don't come at it steep, which is fair. The greens were recently punched (seems like a couple weeks ago) but they rolled fairly true and still fast. Lots of multi-tiered greens with wicked undulations.

Pro shop charged $40 "for 9 holes, and we need the cart back by 7:45", I think the price is a little high - peak times the fee is $80. Tee boxes were mostly level with a few funky spots.

$14 for a large bucket that doesn't even fill to the brim, that's the worst deal here. Overall, really enjoyed the challenge, hadn't played here in years and you really have to remember to focus on every shot or you'll be hacking it out of the rough.

Played 11/20/23 @ 0830, course plays completely different with a constant 5-10 mph wind. Course was in good shape, not great, but it seems like more money is flowing in now. Pro shop upstairs is open now and the snack bar is operational. They even have new carts (basic- no GPS). The last time I came it felt like they were going to close down the course. I'm really glad they are turning things around. Tee boxes were level most of the time, fairways were ok with the occasional bare spot and thin spots throughout. Fairway and greenside bunkers were the weakest part of the course. They are basically just dirt with rocks in them. Greens were something else though- they dried out because of the wind and they were rock hard. I had a couple of putts get blown off line by the wind. It wasn't a very good putting day... All in all I'm just glad they're turning things around, this is one of my favorite courses to play on the way to the desert.

Able to secure a first time off at 6:20AM, which considering how hot was projected, was a good decision. Even though we finished before 9AM, it was already very hot by the time we placed the clubs back in the trunk.

The staff was fantastic. Everyone we encountered was friendly and accommodating Very much appreciated. The course was in generally nice condition. The greens rolled very well, and those which had been mowed had decent pace. All were very receptive. Some of the rough was U S Open thick. Found a number of balls which obviously had been lost the day before. Crazy ! Bunkers had plenty of well raked sand. Most of the tee boxes were OK, some not so great.

Enjoyed playing Oak Valley again after a 6-year absence. Decided to play from the white tees which turned out to be a smart decision. Played a lot more like it did "years ago"

The roof work on the clubhouse is finished and the pro shop upstairs is open again. The restaurant however is still not open. We heard their restaurant space is for lease so until then… hotdogs and snacks at the turn is available + cold beers, too.

The course remains to be real fun and a pretty cool deal @ $65/$60 regular/senior on weekdays.

I do agree with the previous review as we were also here after Thanksgiving. Yes, the fairways and greens were great and that weighed heavily on my impression of this course. Not to mention how fun it is to play here.

Cons: well, it is not a walking course for the reason that the,, or some of the holes are far in between. Wouldn’t this course be fabulous if only… but walking is not the reason why I play here. I play elsewhere when I want to walk. (Does not take anything away from the course at all- ride it!!)

Cons ll: grass color. No, it isn’t what it was before covid, but hey… grass grows, and from what I can see, the course is gearing back up to speed. I swear none of us were focused on some brown spot while the game were on- nor did it take away from “play”! Just on how good the fairways were alone will have well made up for it, let alone the greens, wow!! Oh okay , there were some noticeable ball marks on the greens but that’s on the players.
(I’ve taken my son here a few times and he is just in awe.)

I would love to keep coming back here and play often and soon even though I’m only one mile shy of a hundred miles one way. I hope the golfers here would care more for this course as it is quite a gem in my opinion. I’m not sure what the best way to promote keeping the course better than you found it, but I hope the good conditions continue here.

Service and Amenities:
Clubhouse was closed along with the restaurant and proshop. Check in is done around the building on the backside at the cart barn window. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Starter was friendly enough but did not offer any guidance about the course. He was there to take receipts and then disappear after getting the waivers.

Small snack window on the right side of the clubhouse (when looking from parking lot) that had standard fare: hotdogs, chips, beers, etc. Fair prices for a course.

Bathrooms and locker rooms non-existent outside of the comfort stations that were in need of some TLC.

Range was great with decent amount of targets and very nice grass to hit off of. Their range grass was very reflective of fairway grass. Range Balls were definitely below average with a mix of well worn range balls and an assortment of balls that seemed to be lost from holes to the range.

No chipping green but there was a putting green on the way up to the first tee. We did not use it before our round but definitely should have.

Greens:
The greens were very interesting. We didn't think they were going to be quick by their looks but they definitely were. Probably rolling around 11-12 and rolled very true. Having never played here before I had a hard time reading the greens for whatever reason and could not get a feel for the speed. That isn't on the course, it is on me! I will say that I have not played greens this receptive in some time; caveat that with them being extremely soft. I was able to back up a 4iron and my buddy had a 3wood spin back on 18. It was fun to zip wedges back past the pins though. Speaking of pins, the locations were tricky and seemed to always be on edges of slopes.

Fairways:
The fairways were some of the best I have played in recent memory. They reminded me of torrey pines leading up to the tournament every year. They were very lush but firm. You could take nice clean divots and replace them which is always a good feeling. Drives got a decent amount of roll.

Bunkers:
Green side: decent with varying degrees of depth but thin in spots. Outside of the green side waste bunker on 9, they seemed to have nice sand and you were able to get out of with high, soft shots.
Fairway: the one I was in had small, medium, and large rocks. No rake so I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be groomed or not. In either case, got out without issues but there was a bit more sand in there than expected.

Tee Boxes:
No complaints here. Nothing special, definitely well played, but flat and had good grass to hit from on the par 3s.

Rough:
Two different types that we saw out here. First was the very thin hairy rough that would gobble up balls if they settled down but not hard to hit from if you found it. Second was thick wet rough that was very penal. Overall, rough was up 2-3 inches on average with some areas that were more and less. Group had a few lost balls where it ran through fairways and was never found again.

Overall:
Course was great! I would love to play here again but it is such a trek up from San Diego. Fun layout with challenging greens and tee shots. Course played very different from the two tee boxes we chose for each round. Gets a bit windy in the afternoons which adds to the fun. This course will definitely be on my list, especially when I am planning desert trips as it could be an easy stoping point to break up the drive right off the freeway.

Gorgeous day of high 60s and mid 70s in clear skies.
Like what the previous review mentioned, the fairways and greens are great. The greens rolled smoothly (some unfixed ball marks but no big deal) maybe 10.5 which was very nice. The fairways were so nice and ran well, closely mowed and without much divots around the approach(es) areas. The rough was thick and you’ll need to keep an eye out on where it lands. The bunkers were in good shape and were conditioned nicely on a couple i was in.
Great stuff and still one of my favorite tracks.
$80 to ride. But I only wished this was a waking course though.
Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve played here last but the upstairs pro shop and dining is closed. Check in is downstairs next to the range ball dispenser. The snack window is open at the turn. No beverage cart.
