Nice to get back to Oak Valley, a favorite of mine. Staff is always great and the senior rate makes this place a good bargain to play. Not too much to add to Larry's recent review, yes the fairways are turning a brown and at times a bit thin, but it's November and it's a lot better than shoveling snow in Chicago. Greens rolled well and true. I found the rough, which I visited quite often to be a little inconsistent, but still manageable.

There are just a lot of good holes on this course, but it still allows you to play without fear of OB or penalty every shot. Good shots of course rewarded, but the poorer shots generally only "cost you one shot". Recommend this course !

Was invited out to play Oak Valley with an old friend on the morning of 11/15 and had a 7:04 tee time. Paid $45 senior rate. A cool morning and not too many golfers out there so we finished in a little over 3 hours but was really looking forward to playing here. The layout here is so much fun. Real nice guy serving as starter at the #1 tee box who warned us that the bobcats are out there but they don’t bother anyone. He was right. Found a couple hovering on the tee boxes and wasn’t about to get too close.

Winter wear is starting to show. Bermuda is turning brown on the fairways and getting thin. Fairways will continue to play thin I am sure as winter evolves but you have to expect that. The rough was lush and thick but not penal. Bunkers were in great shape. A bit damp but no problems getting out of them.

Greens are rolling well. Many undulations on the greens which make them tricky to read and putt.

Love this course. Very challenging but fair. Some water out there on the back 9 but generous fairways. The challenge comes on the shots to the green. Definitely a shot makers course. Just wish I lived closer as I would be playing here more often.

Love to play Oak Valley. Well designed layout with a nice variety of holes. There is a fair amount of room off the tee on most holes. The challenge is the approach shot and the green complexes. Water comes into play on a few holes. The greens were in great condition. Green speeds were toward the fast side and they held shots. The fairways were a little brown but had very good coverage and decent roll out. The rough was mostly good with a few bare/thin spots. The bunkers were wet and a bit compacted but playable and well groomed. Most of the tee boxes were fair with a few good ones.

Teed off Wednesday just short of 9am and finished in 4:40. A regular playing in the group behind me said it was unusually slow for a weekday. The staff were all friendly.

Played yesterday and I must say that the Course is in great shape. Greens in great condition with the ball holding very well, good sand in most bunkers, fairways a little thin but in very good shape but the tee boxes do need a little work. This is also one of my favorite course in the I.E.

Course is in nice shape. Only been opened for a few weeks after over seeding. There are still a few areas of rough around tee boxes that are coming back but shouldn’t be more than a week to be 100%. Fairways and greens are perfect. Greens running a little slower than normal but they are the greenest I have ever seen them at the course. I am a little biased because this is one of my favorite courses but will honestly say it’s in great shape.

Made it out to Oak Valley today to get a late morning round of golf in on Labor Day. I had a tee time at 11:20 as a single and went out just ahead of the California Baptist University Women's golf Team.

I had the course pretty much to myself. I really didn't have anyone in front of me and I obviously had the golf team behind me, so I had time to get some practice in with my new irons (which was my goal). I hit multiple balls on most holes.

The course is in pretty good shape for the end of summer:

Greens - Very good shape. They rolled very true at medium speed to fast speed. These greens can be very difficult to read. Most of the greens have multiple level or shelves that can make putting very difficult. When they are rolling at tournament speed, these greens are brutal (in my opinion).

Bunkers: I was in a couple of bunkers today. One was a fairway bunker and one was a green side bunker. Both had very good coverage and were easy to play out of. No complaints.

Fairways and Rough: Both were in decent shape for late summer. The fairways were actually really good and much better than I expected them to be. On the shots that I had from the fairway, I did not have a bad lie all day. The rough was a bit thin in some areas and looked like it had suffered a little bit from the summer heat. As I always say, hit the ball in fairway and you wont have to deal with the issues with the rough :).

Tee Boxes: This was probably the weak spot of the course. The tee boxes on the par 3's were absolutely horrible. It was tough just to find a clump of grass to hit off of. These boxes were also really uneven. The par 4 tee boxes also needed some work from what I remember. The tee boxes on the (4) par 5's were actually in the best shape. If they do something with the tee boxes on the par 3's, I think this course could be up there with the best in IE.

Overall a fun day at Oak Valley. I am not sure why this place does not get more play than it does. It may be the location or the difficulty of the course The layout is fun but can be quite challenging. There are houses on this course but most or really out of play unless you hit a wild shot. I would highly recommend this course. It is about a 45 minute drive for me but it is well worth it. Go check it out if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Sunday, June 2, 2019. The pace took almost three and a half hours as a single with wait times. I got through a group and played two balls on some holes.

It was a nice cool cloudy day with off and on light breeze in the back. I'd be surprised if it got up to 70 in temps, but it was a very comfortable day in shorts.

The course had some really healthy grass all over the course. The rough wasn't that tough to get out of, but I'm sure it can be in other spots. The fairways are really nice with tight lies with some roll. The teeing grounds were nice, but the bunkers were wet. The greens were still healing and some putts were still bumpy from aeration- not as bad... a couple more weeks and those greens will be fast and smooth again.

Love this course!

Played oak valley on 5/24 at 9am only 45 bucks. The area has been getting alot of rain the last few weeks and this course is lush. Really beautiful out there. Fairways are tightly mown and bordered nicely with dark deep rough. Greens were punched a little over three weeks ago and showed some aeration holes and a little softness but rolled pretty nice, medium speed. In two weeks the greens should be perfect. There was standing water in a few bunkers from all the rain but didnt end up in any. This courses conditioning reminds me of Goose Creek if they just improved their bunkers. Would definitely recommend this course right now if you don't mind the drive there.

Played here 3/31/19 with one friend. Had a 12:00pm tee time. Pace of play was 4 hours but we took our time and most of the time spent was searching for balls hit in the rough. The rough was terrible! Wayyy too long. sometimes almost 1-2 feet high! I know it's rough for a reason but it was a little extreme. Let's move to the greens. Firm and rolled true but WOULD NOT and I mean WOULD NOT hold a ball for the life of me. No matter what my friend or I did every single freaking ball rolled off the green. There was no way to stick shots etc. Greens were so fast it was insane! I later found out they are purposely drying them out for the PGA Qualifying. They were PGA speed. Course was ready for the qualifications in a week. Sand traps were amazing and fluffy. Tee boxes on par 3's were absolutely terrible and chopped up. We moved back just to find a level spot. The other tee boxes were in great shape though. Fairways were trim and nice and smooth hardly any divots. Water was clean and staff was friendly. Extremely windy conditions and temperature was 85 degrees. Paid $59.00. Had lunch at the clubhouse before we tee'd off and service was great and friendly. Love this course but it's a course that doesn't love me back! =)
