Out here to coach for the Coyote Classic (Division II) College tournament, 2/18 and 2/19.

I hadn't been out here for several years so upon getting out on course, I was shocked. Sadly, the fairways were really patchy. Kind of reminded me of my review on Whittier Narrows a few weeks back. For a course of this caliber, was disappointed to see them in such disrepair. Was hard to differentiate between fairway and rough in many spots.

The greens, on the other hand, were great. Fast, undulated and difficult. Sadly, a couple of our players struggled with speed, which contributed to a 2nd place finish instead of a 1st and much needed win. Oh well. Greens held nicely, especially for the weather out there. Played in freezing temps, hail on Saturday, actually snowed on us during play on Monday and the normal windy conditions out there.

Many of the bunkers were saturated and still flooded so in many cases, a drop was required and in some (holes 2,7,8 and one more that I don't recall), there were designated drop areas outside of the bunkers.

Tee boxes were fine. Excellent all grass driving range.

One note. If playing in the later afternoon, be advised that locals tend to venture out to the course to drink and fish. We encountered a group of not so savory people who had fishing poles and a 36 pack! Eh, what do you expect, it is Beaumont after all!

Played yesterday. POP was 2.5 H as course was very quite. Everything is dormant at present. Except the greens, which looked bad but putted fine with speed. Overall conditions are not ideal IMO. They obviously do not over seed the fairways, tees boxes, etc. Would not recommend at this time. Customer service excellent all levels.

Played on Friday after Thanksgiving.Had a 8:24 tee time for a twosome but my playing partner was a bit late, like an hour late. Knowing its a busy day to golf the guys in the shop were really accommodating to make sure we went off after he showed up. Now on to the course, pretty fair winter conditions for the fairways and rough, but the high point of this course were the greens. Top conditions that rolled true and extremely fast, I have no knowledge to compare to the stimp meter but they are FAST.Its just nice to play a course that's visually attractive.Kind of a weird description but it is.Oak Valley is definitely in my course rotation.

Played 10/25 in the SCGA 4-ball qualifier. Conditions were very good to great over most of the course. Greens were receptive, quick, and rolled true. Fairways were in very good shape as was the rough. The only real complaint was that a few of the back tee boxes were mushy and/or had thin grass coverage. Many of those were tucked near taller vegetation so thinning the herd might get a bit more sunlight to them. Excellent championship layout is always a challenge.

Saturday the 20th, October, about noon was when we tee’d off. It was breezy, but a nice clear day of mid 70s. There was a twosome- a father and son who I was paired with. In front of us were a foursome who was fast in some holes but very slow with more than a few holes making it a 4 hours and 20 minutes round total- not that bad, but it didn’t help to see that there was no one in front of them for about 2 whole holes. It was a busy day, there were a lot of people on the range and we see the carts making the turn from the ninth- the parking lot was almost full that day. Their aeration was done more than a month ago and the course is looking good. The greens were rolling nicely and fast (thumbs up on that!). The fairways were also nice and lush but there’s a few areas that were over watered but it wasn’t much in play. The teeing grounds looks good, too. The bunkers looks like sand were added, but it was mixed with lots of gravel/pebbles (about the size of a penny- I didn’t care for it at all). The rough was tall in many areas that were not in play, but along both sides of the fairways, you can see that they’ve mowed it down nicely. So it was maybe 3 and 4 inches tall and boy it was lush and it made it a little difficult to find the ball much more getting out of it. The guys at their pro shop are always good including the starter up at #1. The beverage cart came around at least three times. So all in all the course is in good shape and it looks like it will only get better through the winter and we can definitely see many rounds here or at least this course will be a choice contender for the winter. I was given the day off the Friday before I went on vacation (score!, lol), so I immediately made plans to play a round of golf taking advantage of the week day rates I seldom get. Since Oak Valley gc notified me through email (how cool is that!) that they would be conducting maintenance on the course 12th-14th, I decided to head out there before hand. 'Maintenance' is the operative word for what will be taking place, because I'm guessing the work they are doing is to 'maintain' current conditions. This facility, in my opinion, is very 'golf centric', when you arrive in the clubhouse you'll understand what I mean. Very welcoming and pleasant staff (shout out to Bryce!) that always make you feel as though they appreciate your patronage. The range is very nice, grass only, very aesthetically pleasing. Practice putting green is near the first tee. It is rather difficult to alternate between several shots on the range and then hit a few putts like I normally do when I practice. I would love it if they were to convert that beach volleyball court that seemingly no one uses into another putting green or chipping area, just a thought. Tee boxes were level, the whites where my group played from today had high amount of usage, but could always find a spot to hit from, even without a tee on the par threes like I usually do. 8/10 Fairways were as usual very good. Very few brown spots and not to say there were no hardpan areas on course, but I did not come across even one in the fairway. Seems the only way they could have been better would be to be a deeper green in color? lol j/k 9/10 Rough was very lush, but not long enough that you'd lose your ball. Added one or two clubs to shots into greens. Not overly penal and quite fair in my opinion. 8/10 Only remember being in one bunker. Actual sand, not dirt. Not soft and fluffy, but very playable. Rating based on the singular bunker I experienced; 7/10 Overall experience here at Oak Valley is better than what my ratings project due to the pace of play with virtually no waiting on groups ahead. The level of difficulty, very much a challenging course, and the clientele this place attracts, not a place high handicappers will have a good time at. Definitely a golfers course as opposed to the deal searchers go to facility. Though Oak Valley is one of my favs, like Goosecreekgc, I always leave wondering why I don't play there more often. Highly recommended, will return very soon.

So another opportunity presented itself last Saturday, which was a clear skies and some breeze enough to make me think a half to full club difference.

Our group went off about 9:54. behind the tournament who started on the 15th hole, but we caught on to them around the 4th hole or so and it was a bit slow as we finished about 4 and a half hours. My company had to leave and could not come out for the second round anymore, but I went out again and the course was pretty much empty- no one in front and back of me and I had a leisure time of just under 3 hour round.

The course was in good shape from fairways to green. The teeing grounds were a bit used up on the whites where I played both rounds. I think I was in one fairway bunker and a couple of greenside bunker for the day. The fairway bunker was pretty crusty and almost had no sand, but I didn't mind that very much. The greenside bunker I was in were okay with sand- not the greatest quality sand, but it's okay.

Considering the hot weather we're having the fairways were in great shape. The greens were soft and were very receptive. They were smooth and rolled nicely. I think maybe 10.5 as a guess. I liked it a lot and had a blast on both rounds.

There's no bev cart there ever, but the restaurant is in between nines- just have to plan for that. Also, the pro shop guys were all very nice and accommodating like always.

There were some dried out areas I saw but it's far from being in play- no big deal at all.

All in all, this place had just become a favorite spot to come visit and play. Great job Oak Valley!

So I had an opportunity to play here at Oak Valley on Saturday, 06/23/18. It was a sunny day with winds no more than 12 miles an hour if any. My guys played an early round, one of them joined me for 36 holes with replay of $30 or so. Our first tee time was just passed 12:00pm and the pace was leisurely at 3:45. The following time was even faster it seems like. The guys at the pro shop were cool to bend a couple irons of mine before my range time. The hotdog and the drinks were served nicely at the restaurant. We played the white tees on both rounds and made it for a fun day. The greens were fine, but it just tends to get a little bumpy around that time of day it seems. The bunkers were okay from the two greenside I was in. The teeing grounds were mostly level- some slight slope from a few tee- not a big deal. The fairways were good and weren't over watered nor dried out. There were no bev/snack cart, but the clubhouse is in between 9s. I noticed there are now signs to be ware of mountain lions crossing. I was telling my bud that I met one of them on #6 tee a while back- last year late in summer I think. It stared at me and I didn't take my eye off of it for what seems a long time at the time. It slowly walked away but I left even though there's plenty of sun left on my third round. Just glad nothing happened.

Had to take care of some personal business out in San Bernadino and was looking for a place to play after. Decided on OV as it has been a long time. I actually played here not long after it opened in the early 90’s if I remember correctly. That’s how long it’s been and couldn’t remember many holes but do remember there were not any homes out there at that time. In fact nothing was out there. What a change. Starter sent me out solo and followed a slow 3 some which was fine. I wasn’t in any hurry but was able to bypass the groups ahead on the back 9 and finished in a little over 3 hours. But what a nice golf course! The layout is not real difficult but is a lot of fun. Fairways are generous and are in great condition. I didn’t have a bad lie. Some dry areas out there but not many . The rough was in great shape and very playable. Bunkers were hard and damp. The greens are in great shape. Pretty soft, were holding and were rolling true. Some undulations making putts difficult to read. I was very impressed with this course and cannot say enough good things about it. In addition, they have a real nice driving range and practice area. I just wish I lived closer to this course as I would make it a regular place to play. Definitely recommend!!
