Took the brutally long drive to Oak Valley today to tee it up with the Dawgs. PoP with a 10am tee time was around 4.5 hrs. Windy to start but calmed down later in the round. Course a mixed bag, different grasses and uneven lies in the fairways. Rough could be a chore to play from, about 2-3" and longer. Many thin lies, had to get ball first so we were getting some flyers over greens which were rolling nice (some bumpiness) but were firm and not holding very well ... lot's of release when hitting mid-iron or lower. Enjoyed the layout, great challenge with some holes where you needed to plan and think ahead. Need to get to know the green complexes and where the collection areas are to be able to score well. Would like to play again after some rain or better weather conditions, cuz today was very firm and dry.

This is a superb track... Its super challenging and a fun layout... the whole course played super super firm.. the fairways the ball would take huge bounces.. which is good on drives but not good if you are laying up to certain distances because the bounces were unpredictable..

This course has the toughest greens I've played in.. they break in many different directions and they are real fast.. my only complain about the greens is that if you are going to have real fast greens with lots of breaks.. you need to try your absolute best to keep them smooth. Bumpy fast greens is so hard to putt on.. but this track is so challenging and fun i will continue to play there.. I'm just hoping they cut them and keep them smooth.. and give us some softer fairway conditions.

Played Monday morning with Tobster, Sbogey, CPennbo. My first time playing the course.

Range - Grass, but pretty chewed up Monday morning.
Carts - no GPS, has a cooler though
Tee boxes, 50/50 - some where hard as a rock and others were fine. Mostly level.
Fairways - decent, lot of hard and tight lies but occasionally you would find yourself on a nice fluffy patch of grass.
Sand - not very good at all....it looked like sand, but behaved like dirt. Lots of pebbles. I wasn't a fan.
Rough - maybe the best part of the course, very playable.

Green complexes - this is where the course has its teeth. found the greens non-receptive to approach shots all day. very tight. Speed was fast and so challenging to judge. left a bad taste in my mouth.

we drove 1.5 hours to play here. would I do it again? no....
if I am going that direction I am going to play Morongo.

Hole layout is fine...I rather liked it...hole 16 and 17 are the 2 prettiest holes in my opinion.

you need some course experience on this track..you absolutely need to know where to put the ball to have a reasonable chance to score well.

Glad i chose this course. teed off around 12:30, walked on as single and hooked up with a 2 some; under 4 hr round. it was COLD and clear. course in great great shape. greens were moderately fast, a slow 11 i'd say. it was a really nice round of golf. wish i could play here once a month.

Played 1/2/16 at about 10am as a twosome with my friend that is just beginning to play. It was windy, as in bad windy. The driving range was akin to tin cup. Really thin and mostly dirt. The course was in typical winter shape. Dormant fairways everywhere. Any grass coverage was pretty thin. Rough was very patchy, manageable, not overly penal. Sand in bunkers was OK. One was great. Another I was in was loaded with small rocks/pebbles. I'm not a fan of courses where a good safe shot onto the green surface is absolutely punished, the wind likely didn't help. I hit 9 greens on the fly and had TWO stay on the greens. Hit an 8 iron from 150, pretty high, left a huge ball mark on the slightly sloping back to front green, hit, released and ran 60 feet off the back into some garbage laden drop off. The greens look really ugly but were very fast and little bumpy. The course is usually nice when not in the winter shape/dormant. I really like the layout, especially the front 9. Stay away from here if wind bothers you or your game. Every time I've played here it's been an issue. Not withstanding the stellar playing partner he chooses, LOL, my friend that struggles to hit the ball 200 yds was miserable. He would have preferred the local muni 3x at $20 vs the 69 we paid to play today. I'd play here again only if the green fees were a bunch less.

I played on 10/18 in an Amtour tournament. The course was in great shape after the overseeding. The greens have healed nicely, fairways were in great shape and I didnt notice any problems with the tee boxes. I wasnt in the sand at all for the day but they appeared to be in good shape as well. The rough was the main defense on the course that day. It was playing pretty nasty but in a good way. I had a few short sided shots sitting down in that greenside rough and it is a grind to get up and down. The staff was great, its always a pleasure playing here.

Great conditions with wonderful greens and lush fairways. Sand traps were consistent and pace of play great! A challenging course and one you should not miss.

First time playing Oak Valley. I have to say it is definetly a nice course. Very well maintained from their practice tee to their 18th green. It is challenging in its own way. A lot of elevation change. A lot of elevated greens. They are a little pricey but its still a great course and will definitely take the trip out there and play there again in the future

Played this past weekend in a Saturday 9am tournament. The staff told me that the course was busier than usual because there was a junior tournament going on after us, but it did not feel crowded at all. I had only played the course once before years ago, so it felt like my first time out there. We were lucky to have perfect conditions, and we didn't get the afternoon winds that can pick up out there. The course was in great shape. Oak Valley is a very nice blend of being challenging without being punishing. It sets up as a station-to-station type of course, but if you do miss your spots you can get yourself back with a good shot. The rough was thick in some spots but mostly manageable. The greens act as the course's toughest defense, large greens where you need to be on the correct shelf or a three-putt is a very real possibility. Although they didn't feel lightening quick, the ball did keep rolling for three or four more feet than I thought it would. And the short putts did feel slick, with the ball whipping by the edges of the hole. The starter gave me a tip for the green on the par-3 11th hole, that the ball will actually break away from the lake on the right. The sand was in very nice shape, leaning more towards a gravel consistency than powder. My biggest complaint with the layout was the lack of yardage markers. There were small markers at the 200 / 150 / 125 / 100 yard spots, but many times they were hard to find. I didn't see any yardages stamped on sprinkler heads. This especially became problematic on long par 5s, where I had no idea how far out I was on my second shot, and had to guess which club to lay-up with. Their website does have a nice hole-by-hole tip sheet that I consulted on my smartphone throughout the round (http://www.oakvalleygolf.com/HttpGate?name=ShowPage&pageId=37). No beverage cart on the day we played, although there are a lot of water stations throughout the course. I think the folks at the snack shop are used to dealing with extreme heat, because they made my iced tea (and my refill after) with almost all ice and a splash of liquid. The staff were very nice and friendly. Pace of play was a shade under five hours. Definitely wouldn't mind going back, hopefully when my game is sharp.
