My review is going to be a bit biased because I've always been a fan of Redhawk and the crew who work out there. I thought the overall conditions of the course were really good. The fairways were excellent as I had nothing but great lies all day. When I did find the rough it was playable but definitely made things a bit more difficult. I'm a fan of rough that you need to avoid, but isn't so difficult that it's basically a stroke penalty for missing the fairway.

I'll echo some of the thoughts others have expressed in the wetness of the greens. They had been given quite a bit of water (some during the round) and it made them susceptible to foot prints, especially in high traffic areas nearer the hole, which made putts inside 20 feet a little wobbly, but overall I thought they were fine. I'm sure the water was necessary to protect them in the heat, but if they dried out just a little they'd be perfect.

The range is nothing fancy, but I've always liked the putting and chipping greens as you can play some fun games with crazy putts/chips but also work on flat putts on the green nearer the pro shop. The cantina is always a good time and everyone I met on staff was great.

I'm a huge fan of this layout and think that the conditions currently make Redhawk a great place to get out and play. I will definitely be back soon!

Played in the GK plays on Sunday. Paired with rgm2525, allan_grant & AndrewZ28, we played the Blacks (72.0/132/6544) on a hot, slow Sunday afternoon. POP was poor, well over a 5 hour round in 100+ degree heat. Witnessed some good to excellent golf shots and had a great time with this group! The course condition was a mixed bag, ranging from excellent to poor, but good to very good overall. The tees were good to very good, well maintained with most divots repaired. Both the fairways and the rough were excellent, lush with only a few brown spots here and there. Considering the heat/drought, some of the best fairways I have played on recently. The rough was penal even though it was not overly long, very hard to get good club on the ball. The traps were poor. I was in 4 total. The waste bunker was hardpan, which is preferable to me. However, the 3 greenside bunkers were all over the place. 1 was wet from over watering the green, 1 was hardpan and 1 was not well maintained. I am only an average bunker player, but I have NEVER in 40+ years of playing golf hit 3 shots in the same bunker out of the same divot before after 3 straight attempts hit the lip and came back in the same spot! The greens were medium fast and somewhat bumpy. They were extremely soft (as were the fringes) from over watering. Foot marks near the hole made even short putts a challenge, and the amount of times our group made significant ball marks on pitch shots was well into the teens. The good thing was once you realized how soft they were, it was like throwing darts, pop it up in the air and land it by the hole and it stayed. They obviously do not have a water issue @ Redhawk, because the amount of times our group was playing a "mud ball" on approaches or chip shots was almost unbelievable considering it was mid August w/o any recent rainfall. The customer service was very good. Efficient check-in & the cart staff was top notch. We gathered in the onsite restaurant for snacks/drinks afterward, both the prices and the service was excellent. As has been pointed out in other reviews, it was very surprising that we only saw the snack cart once the entire round on a Sunday when it was 105 degrees. I enjoy the layout and would play here often if Redhawk was not over 100 miles from my house.

Tee boxes were excellent and fairways were in good shape for our drought conditions. Some of the bunkers were very hard packed but green side bunkers seemed OK! This is a course I would play again without a doubt. The only negative was that with 108 degree temps we only saw a cart girl once. and that was near the end of our round! In that heat I would have thought they would be coming around every few holes and could have made bank! This is a course everyone should experience!

Yes, it was ridiculously hot, but there were a good number of water stations around, however a few more on days like today wouldn't hurt a bit.

The layout at Redhawk is fine, but I was surprised (in a good way) that there was nothing gimmicky about the track. The holes are pretty straight forward with the exception of 18, which has a few weird qualities. But it was nice that it wasn't trying too hard to be too hard - no trees in the middle of fairways, or large bunkers dead center of landing areas. I liked that.

Conditions were good, not optimal, but totally understandable in that oven. I can imagine when conditions perfect, the place must be superb. But today, due to the overwatering of the greens, they were spongy with lots of shoe marks and took some big ball marks (people were very good about fixing them though).

Fairways were quite good and very few dry areas were found. The rough was not super deep, but proved challenging. Sand traps were a bit thin to be honest - often had to decide whether to dig it out or just try and snatch it clean. Tee boxes were pretty good.

I look forward to playing here again someday. And also look forward to the next GK outing - thanks for making my first time out with you guys a good ole time.

Played in the GK Plays at Redhawk at 1115 on a clear, very hot Sunday morning with not quite enough breeze to take the edge off the heat. Thanks to Matt, Vic, and Robert for a very enjoyable round, and to Johnny for setting up this weekend morning time for a great rate of $45. There’s no GPS in the carts and I didn’t spend any time looking for sprinkler heads, but I had an old yardage book and my handy Bushnell. Overall we found the course in good condition. I played the Gold tees (7000+) with the GK Cup champ, so getting off the tee was important. Boxes were generally in fine shape, although a couple had so much grass depth that there was an uncertain-footing feel. Even par-3 tee boxes were in good shape (of course, the back tees are less heavily used). Greens were faster on-course than we found at the putting green; greens were fairly soft, held shots, and rolled well at med-fast speed, esp. toward the southwest and/or downhill. We had good lies in the fairways with the ball sitting up nicely. Rough was 2-3 inches and sticky – it grabbed/slowed the ball when hit into; a firm hand was needed for strikes from the rough. Sand was of good depth and quantity; traps were somewhat damp and the sand in all was fairly heavy. There were numerous ball marks on the putting green (!!) from people chipping down onto these soft greens. I’ve never seen so many of these marks on a putting green anywhere. We found no Gold markers on the 14th tee box. There were no sand refill stations until #10, so some of our divots and many of the myriad others went unfilled on the front side. Adequate water was available – and was much needed on this very hot day. Saw the cart girl only once, I think – on the 12th green. Very good food and friendly service in the cantina afterward. Always a great time when playing with other GKers.

Another great day to play the GK way, together, on a good course! I found the course to be in really good shape overall, especially considering the heat, the drought, the last great recession, etc. Tees: level, with grass on 'em, that's all one needs with tee in hand Fairways: very nice overall, never got a bad lie in the fairway (on the rare occasion that I found it) Rough: minimal but enough to cause concern Bunkers: all well maintained as far as the surface conditions were concerned, but the ones I found were a bit thin in the sand department Greens: on the over watered side (the 8th being watered in between groups), as it was hot, and as Matt noted were cut quite short, Chris ventured that they were possibly just trying to not lose them. They were soft, I fixed a few deep ball marks, rolled decently although there were footprints, some rather deep, everywhere (due to the softness) and had many subtle breaks and getting the speed failed was difficult Customer Service: very good, starter on task, snack cart seen often, and the catina was great after round hangout. I had the carne asada street tacos and a lemonade, the tacos were tasty, the lemonade was a bit weak . . . shoulda added some of the fine tequila I saw behind the bar! POP: was slow (of our own making), it was pretty darn hot and we weren't in a hurry, we only saw the group ahead of us a few times and let the group behind us play through on 12 (apparently they were in a hurry . . . something was said about getting home?) Overall: a challenging layout and a bit tougher for me from the Blacks as opposed to the Blues I'm use to

The course wasn't very busy this morning with us finishing our round in four hours. The entire course is wet, wet, wet and green, green, green!! No shortage of water here. Tee boxes were a little long but in good shape. The fairways are in great shape and were very damp. The rough was 3-6 inches thick and green!! The greens themselves were in great shape with a few still somewhat slow from the recent aeration. The traps were consistent from fairway to green and very damp. Redhawk is always a good challenge for any level of golfer.

Played my GK match with Zoocropolis. We played the blacks (6544/71.8/132) in partly cloudy, fairly calm conditions with the temperature in the low 70's. We played on a 2 x 1 internet special for $45 including a cart. Sunday mid day POP was a challenge, the front 9 was close to 3 hours, but the back 9 was barely 2 hours for a 5 hour round total. I played here once about 25 years ago shortly after the course opened, but did not remember many of the holes. I really liked the layout, tough, challenging but fair. Nice course! The tees were generally lush and other than fresh divots on the par 3's were well maintained. The fairways were more thin than lush, which produced some long drives. Very playable with good coverage. The rough was mowed down in most spots but was very deceptive. It was thick enough to grab your club, which made both longer clubs and chips tough shots. The sand traps were generally good. They had been thick AD, then suddenly on the back I was in one with fine beach sand, so consistency would be my only complaint. The greens were very nice, medium fast and holding irons well, putting smooth. Numerous greens on this course had three or even four tiers, so getting the ball on the correct part of the green is a key to avoiding 3 putts here. The carts do not have GPS, which would be beneficial on several holes since I had no local knowledge. Example, on #1, I bombed a drive down the middle that ran through the fairway and almost into a hazard, in the trees in trouble. The customer service overall was excellent, the pro shop got us right out despite me arriving late after making a wrong turn. Drink cart came around several times. I look forward to coming back later next week on a B-Day round.

Played 36 holes yesterday with an UnderPar certificate. First time at this course and I really liked it. The par 3's on this course great, each with a unique challenge. The 4th hole is uphill with a four tier green. The flag was in the back and made for a fun test of putting skills.

The course itself is in good shape, the fairways are thin and hard and makes wedge shots difficult. I found the bunkers to be in good shape with firm sand in the fairway bunkers and god soft sand near the greens. The greens are in nice shape right now, putts had very little bounce and held shots nicely. Tee boxes are a little worn, but very playable. Staff were very nice and treated us. us nicely.

Overall I had a good time and the weather was as perfect a day for golf as could be. Looking forward to going back.
