Played on an Underpar certificate for $89 with GKer rat-patrol at 1010am on a clear hot Sunday, 8/20/17. The course was mildly busy and we went out sandwiched between a number of foursomes, and played thru one group on #3, so pace was relaxed in a little over 4.5 hr, with quite a bit of waiting on the back nine. Staff was friendly and helpful, including engaged starters, and we saw the cart girl a couple times. The course offers complimentary water from the 1st and 10th tee, and the cart girl has free water as well – nice.

The course is in very nice condition. Greens were cut tight and are firm and running at medium-fast speed. We didn’t see too many old ballmarks. Fairway lies were good – we saw only scattered thin/bare areas. Rough was cut short and dry so it was very playable. Tees were level and fine. I was in one bunker greenside on #4 and sand quality was good.
Very nice grass range with comp balls, and a good short game area. Putting green is fairly large and has slopes that look like the on-course greens. Plush carts and quality GPS system. Cooler with water and ice.

There’s a couple holes here that I have issues with. I don’t like the layout of the 9th hole – a solid drive puts you behind a wall of oak trees with nowhere to go, unless you can fit your drive into a narrow hallway between OB right and that big oak. So maybe a hybrid off the tee on a par-5 – ugh! Hole #7 is funky in that there’s about a 30x30-ft area just inside the right bunkers where you can have a reasonable 2nd shot to a severe green. Hole #13 is still shown as the 2-handicap hole, and as a 587-yd par-5 on the card and website, but issues with balls flying into homes along the left side have forced the course to move all the tees up to <500 yards – the white tees we played Sunday were inside a 455-yd marker. The initial right bunker that was a factor from the back tees is now sitting out there pretty moot, and you mainly just have to stay short of the creek crossing. From there it’s 230 (wedge-wedge) in, factoring in the deep narrow green against the creek left. Not really the 2-hcp hole anymore, IMHO.

Always a pleasure to play here, and I enjoyed Jim’s company during the round. Lots of construction going on at the resort with a new room wing and new spa being built, and traffic in Temecula and on the freeway afterward was horrific.

Journey is probably in the best condition I've ever seen it. Overall it is quite lush and green, even in the middle of a dry summer here. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens really couldn't be much better. Probably the only knock I could find was the traps were inconsistent and some were very firm. Strangely, I found the sand in a couple fairway traps to be soft while some green side traps were too hard - should be the other way around! But even so, the course is simply in great condition, and the grounds crew should be commended.

Played here 2/12/2017 with fellow GK members Nat P., Jon P., and all the way from Michigan Bill A. using an UnderPar deal for $90 each with a free replay round. Unfortunately today was a tale of highs and lows with Journey. The course was nearly immaculate; every aspect was dripping in lush green conditions and visually stunning....however the entire course was C.P.O. and made for a round that was a few minutes short of 6 hours. It was by far the longest round of golf I have ever played and had it not been for the perfect conditions and amazing company, this would have been a complete waste of a trip. The entire property is under construction so getting to the course was a bit tricky too. The actual course condition review: Tee-boxes: The "worst" aspect of the course but they were still in good condition. There wasn't much in the way of chewed up boxes and because the course offers several tee options, I think the turf sees far less damage than the courses that only have Red/White/Blue. Fairways: Absolutely stunning. The recent rains really left them in great shape. Not muddy and not soggy, granted there wasn't a heck of a lot of roll but the lies were all great. Rough: Wonderful condition but tough to hit out of. The biggest test at this course is always the areas just outside the rough, but the rough itself was still penal. Bunkers: I was only in two but both has good sand coverage that allowed for good shots. Ample rakes in each and they looked to be taken care of. Greens: Wonderful roll and pretty quick in my opinion. A shame to see so many groups leave marks on them though without the slightest desire to fix. Visually not as great as the rest of the course but they really rolled true. ETC: Staff was extremely friendly. Carts here are top-class with wonderful GPS. Waters, towels, and coolers all provided. Cart girls were ever present. Didn't see a single marshal though I am not sure that would have prevented slow play today. 6 hour round made it hard to enjoy to its fullest and CPO all day led to serious fatigue on a course that couldn't offer walking as an option even if they wanted to. Food options at the turn and in the restaurant were tasty. On a great deal, this is one of the best in So. Cal.

Played 8-28-16 using an underpar deal, $89 for two rounds. Teed off at 8am and finished at 3:45 for two rounds, first round as a foursome in 4:45, second round as a single in 3 hours with some waiting on the last 5 holes. First round was from the white tees which were pretty beat up with a lot of bare spots and some needed some leveling. Second round from the copper tees which were in really nice shape, level and lush. Fairways were thin with a lot of brown areas and some bare spots. Rough was cut pretty short with bare clumpy areas. Was in two bunkers, one of which was very thin and hard, while the other had a little more sand as was descent to hit from. Greens were in good shape, some still showing signs of being punched but most were rolling pretty good at medium/fast speed. Even though they are closing 9-12 for overseeding, I would think what is supposed to be a high end course would still try to keep the course in good shape for its costumers. Costumer service was great from check in to leaving. Great practice facility that you could spend a lot of time practicing ever part of your game.

Played 8/21/16 10:20 U.P. deal POP 4 hrs Summer heat has taken a bite out of the visuals of the course. There are many burnt/brown areas mixed through out that your ball can find. But, I still only found one bad lie all day, the rest were just fine. The fairway's are mostly green, but firm. Tees & traps good to great Greens were very good to great. A little firm, but balls ran at a good pace of medium fast and ran true. Over all it was in good to very condition. Mostly visual, but if I had paid full price, I would have been a little disappointed. Definitely worth the U.P. deal. We played 27 holes and easily could have played 36 or more?

the rough was pretty fluffy... caught a few fliers from the rough... wish i could hit my 7 iron 180+ all the time :) Great deal that we god and specially good when there's a casino nearby

Played Journey 8/13/16 with Osamabinhacking and 2 other friends using an UP voucher for 2 players for $183 good anytime including replay. Our tee time was 8:50am. Arrived around 8am and we were met at the car by a friendly attendant who took our bags and loaded them onto the carts for us. Check in with the pro shop was smooth and efficient. Proceeded to the massive all grass range with new-ish balls to lubricate the swings. After about 15 min, we headed to the short game area to hit some chips and bunker shots. Lastly, we hit some putts for a few minutes before heading off to the 1st hole. The putting greens were almost EXACTLY representative of what we found on the course which was nice. POP was 4h20m with not much waiting. Tees- Flat with full coverage and minimal damage. Never an issue Fairways- Some minor areas of brown/thin but mostly great with nice lies all day long! Rough- Grassy areas were consistent in coverage and length with a couple of longer areas that could really grab your club. But for the most part, it was not too difficult to escape. The areas that were pretty gnarly were the areas under some of the many oak trees on the course. MANY burrowing animal homes and if your ball was near any of these areas there was the possibility of losing your ball down one of the holes as OBH found out on # 10. Bunkers- Our group didn't experience any issues with fluffy white stuff. A real treat although not as nice as Black Gold the other day! Greens- As mentioned in the prior review, they still show signs of recent maintenance including a light top dressing of sand. HOWEVER unlike the previous review, we didn't find that it affected play that much. They were pretty firm but still held a well struck shot. Rolled pretty true and very quick! Overall course conditions were very nice considering it's the middle of summer and it gets quite toasty in the Temecula Valley around this time of year. For those that have played previously, not much else needs to said about the layout. I really like how the first few holes on either side play relatively easy on flat terrain closer to the clubhouse & resort. Then you climb into the hills for some spectacular views! Most notably the signature 6th hole. Service was amazing on all levels from arrival, check in, starter, cart girl (4-5 times), snack bar at the turn, free bottled waters, well stocked locker room, etc...first class all the way around. Unfortunately we didn't take advantage of the free replay as we had prior commitments (casino! lol) but it was over 100 degrees by the time we finished so we didn't mind one bit. Still a good deal with the UP voucher especially on the weekends. Will be back sooner than later!

I rarely play here, last time was 2011, but always enjoyed my previous experiences, but the cost keeps me away. I was able to secure the first twilight, but to my delight, we were sent off early. My bride and I played behind a twosome, and while we were able to finish in 3 hours 15 min, which was better than I could have hoped for, we waited behind these two guys the entire round, because there was NOBODY in front of them? Typically we would play in about 2 1/2 hours with a clear course. Why wouldn't they just wave us through?

Conditions were disappointing, particularly the greens. They still shows signs of recent verticutting and just did not roll true. Bunkers were "crusty", otherwise the condition was OK, but given the normal green fees, I would have expected better.

I really enjoyed my round, despite the failure of the guys to wave us through. Winds were 15-20 at times which added to the challenge, but lots of fun holes and a very positive experience overall. The staff was fantastic throughout !
