Played on Wednesday the 2nd. The course was very busy, but the POP was just around 4.5 hours. The course was very green due to the past rains. Fairways were a little damp so the ball did not roll as much. Greens went through aerification about 3 weeks ago. They were still bumpy and still contained visible holes. Hopefully by the next week when they are rolled they will start to roll true.

Decent muni course with a decent price. Nothing to be wow'd with, but also not a boring layout. The course shape itself can use a lot of work, in particular the fairways. There are a lot of bare and thin patches out there, even with decent drives. You see a lot of people moving the ball to a small patch of grass nearby for their approaches. The tee boxes are for the most part fine. The bunkers have nice soft sand, a bit too soft, as I had one sunk way low, but that is my fault for getting in there. The rough is pretty rough, some thick, some bare, most areas patchy. The greens are pretty good, people don't seem to repair ball marks, but it is a course where most people don't appear to nail the greens. Weekday morning round took under 3.5 hours. Good layout if you are a local and looking to save on green fees for golf.

I came back to California to play my first round since I broke my kneecap playing basketball. I chose El Prado because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a round I might not finish. El Prado is a very popular venue for cheapskates (like me).
In short, Chino Creek is a fine layout that will never be in great condition. Tee boxes are pretty large, so they're in decent shape. Fairways are in mostly playable shape. The rough varies dramatically ... sparse in some areas ... ankle deep in other spots. I wasn't in any bunkers, but they appear to have hard, dirt-like "sand". The greens were pretty lush, but hadn't completely recovered from recent maintenance.
They do have a nice, grass driving range. The service in the pro shop was great. Pace of play was pretty bad (about 4:40), due to the aforementioned octogenarian penny pinchers. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

not much to say here. played after the rains so everything was deeply muddy, essentially cart path only. check-in was friendly and easy. tee boxes were a bit ratty but mostly level. fairways were spotty and some were essentially trudging through mud. fringe areas were spotty, greens were soft receptive, and actually rolled pretty well. bunkers were mostly full of water. with the no driving on fairways and the group of geriatrics here hitting it 130 off the tee in front of us, the first 9 took 3 hours. i just left after that. i guess if you had the time to spend sure, but i don't. hadn't played in a month so just good to get out there and hit a few. edit: i forgot it smells like cow manure here so just be prepared for that.

Played here on Monday. They aerated the greens several weeks ago and they are the best I have seen them lately. Rest of the course is typical of summer conditions. Some bare spots on rough and fairways. Greenside bunkers are compacted sand. Still a fun course to play for a decent price.

With it getting light so late now, it was a real challenge to find some where to play where I could get out early. El Prado filled the bill. While I was not super excited to play here today, the staff was great, price was right, and I was allowed to get out first (In the dark of course) and get my round in quickly.

It seemed that the fairways had a lot more areas which were bare than when I last played here. Greens were the high light of the course. They were very receptive and rolled well but were slower than I prefer. Only in one bunker, which was wet compacted sand/mud. Rough was a mixed bag, thin to lush.

Nice to get out and walk this old-style course. Maybe it was me, but it sure played long today. Maybe it's time to move up on the tees?

Back to Chino Creek, nice to get back out to a nice walkable, traditional, affordable course. Reminds me of how golf was when I was younger. Since I seem to use a cart more often than years past, it is refreshing to walk again. It makes me appreciate the game so much more when you have the chance to walk from shot to shot and take in the surrounding and plan the shot, instead of riding up to the ball so quickly.

Course was typical El Prado. Exactly what I expected. Greens were good, fairways were for the most part decent, and the rough was an adventure. Bunkers were better than expected, although rather thin on sand. Wish we had a few of these type courses in South Orange County, instead of all the high-dollar courses.

First time playing El Prado (Chino Creek) on 7/31. I didn't come in with lofty expectations and the conditions were about what I expected. What I didn't expect is the nice layout of the course. I really enjoyed many of the holes on the course.

The greens were solid, rolled true at times a little bumpy.

Fairways were mostly solid as well.

Being off the fairways was the dicey play as you didn't know what you were going to get. Dirt? weeds? rough? You got all of the above and it just was a matter of how bad it was.

I was able to get out with my son and some friends and we really enjoyed ourselves. If an invitation came again, I would definitely play El Prado again.

Anyone who has played the El Prado courses with any regularity kind of knows what this courses provide. Good solid basic golf at an affordable price. No frills, nothing special, just golf
Staff is always friendly and accomodating.
