Played Fri Nov 9th at 654, got out early because I think the santa ana winds kept people away. Decided to walk, good decision, if was a good walk, not tiring. Overall course is in winter mode, tee boxes were level but hard, fairways were thin and if you missed the fairways the rough was not too long, but the bad was the bare dirt you were hitting off, I was in several traps and the sand was decent. Greens rolled ok. Some of the pin placements were a little stupid and penal. The wind really picked up and twice the ball moved on the green, so you can guess it was not very much fun. I do like the layout, we played the whites and if you don't drive the ball 270 or more that is where you should play, it is long from the blues. Thanks to the santa ana winds I shot my worse score in over 2 years, I had 39 putts , yikes should have gone home also, LOL

Played last Saturday with Itslikeimsayin for our GK Cup Match. Lost 3 and 2, but that is another story. Let me put it this way, I make a birdie on the second hole only to have Itslikeimsayin make his own birdie -- apparently unrattled by mine. LOL. And that was how the round went :D

Greens even with the evidence of aeration a week or more past rolled rather well. Sometimes a little bumpy. Sometimes you could see the marks from aeration but they really didn't affect the ball movement much. Green speed was medium to fast. Fairways were a mix of thin lies to nice lies. Rough as I remember was a mixed bag. One hole I aimed down the right side hoping to catch a downhill run towards the hole but was caught in a burrowed animal's hole UNDER a tree. Go figure.

Pace of play was fast even with the heat. Not properly dressed for the heat was the key. Drink loads of liquids. Saw the cart gal twice.

For the conditions and the amount of play, I was impressed. Surprised this course is very busy and for the amount of play I would say the conditions are better than I expected but because of the area you would expect superior conditions. Course bones I thought were pretty decent. It's a good mix of narrow holes and holes you could spray the ball and be OK.

My thoughts are personally mixed. Being my first time playing here I like what I saw, just wished conditions were a bit better with fewer thin lies.

December 1989 was the first, today was the last. I have fond memories of many 36 and 54 hole days out here. The course today was very good down to awful. The greens were nice. What was awful was the rough. I don't take a cart, but I could only imagine what a bumpy ride it must be riding in the rough. The are also too many dry patches in the fairways much more than years past. The smell and the flies, an El Prado trademark no longer exist. With the farm now gone near the 18th tee on the Butterfield side you will have no cows or goats making moo's and bah's in your backswing anywhere on both courses. Thanks El Prado for many years of affordable golf.

Ringworld and I played our GK Cup match here today. 11:06 "Deal" time through TeeOff.com for a very nice price. Maybe the heat chased everyone away, because I checked in around 10:35 and was told the course was pretty open and we could start whenever we wanted. A walking single joined us but dropped back after we both birdied the second hole, fearing he couldn't keep up with us (haha). Pace of play was outstanding, finishing in about 3:20. Saw the beverage cart twice with its great prices! Gotta love that about El Prado!

The course is just in okay condition. The greens show lots of visual evidence of aeration but rolled pretty smooth and medium fast. They held full shots pretty well but chips will run out a bit. Fairways vary from good to thin. Rough is the low point of the course, non-existent in many areas and with lots of animal holes, etc. I was in one bunker and it was thin but better than I expected. Tee boxes were mediocre but workable.

I love this layout. I just wish it was in better condition. The carts and paths are really beat-up, too. All that said, I am very happy they are still open and still consider this one of the best "value" courses anywhere around.

Wanted to play a course which I could walk, because it is so much easier to stay dry, rather than get soaked riding in a cart. Light rain, just enough to require an umbrella, but not so much as to create any issues. Did not want to spend a lot of $$ to play in inclement weather, so El Prado fit the bill.

Course was as expected. Greens being the best part, with the fairways being surprisingly good, with plenty of coverage. Always spotty in the rough, but that's always the case here. Both bunkers I found were well maintained with enough sand.

Staff is always great here, and the price for senior warrants the drive from the OC. So long as your expectations aren't too high, the course does not disappoint. You get what you pay for !

Teed off at 6:43 a.m. as a solo. The course has a good grass driving range and two putting greens, so there is ample room to warm up. Was originally intending on playing the course's other 18 hole course, called "Butterfield Stage." However, when I checked in the starter politely recommended I play Chino Creek because it was wide open with no groups in front of me. I appreciated the heads up, as I was able to finish my round in 3 hours. The greens have now fully healed from the aeration they did a little over a month ago. There were a few unrepaired ball marks. However, every putt I had rolled smooth. The fairways were in decent condition. There were a few tight lies and some with ample grass. I happened to find the sand often this round and did not have a problem with their conditions. There was only one green-side bunker that was a little firm, but it was still manageable. The rough is just so-so. There are some spots of just dirt, and others areas that have about 2 inches of grass.

Played yesterday. Course is coming back after aerafication of the greens. Still a bumpy but give it some more time, like 2 more weeks. They are also putting more Sand in some of the Bunkers on the Chi... Continue »

Played yesterday. Course is coming back after aerafication of the greens. Still a bumpy but give it some more time, like 2 more weeks. They are also putting more Sand in some of the Bunkers on the Chino Creek side. Fairways are nice and green but still tough to hit out of especially if your in the rough. That's because of all the KaKua grass that is throughout the course.

Played on 3/31 (Saturday) with a tee time a little before 9:30. Upon arrival the course was very busy, as there are two separate tracks to play. The Chino Creek is said to be the narrower and more challenging course. The greens were punched a few weeks ago, but they seem to be recovering well. The punches are still somewhat visible with filled sand but most puts rolled smooth. I think in 2-3 weeks the greens will be fully recovered. The fairways were very lush with never a poor lie. Rough was average but didn't really penalize the errant shot. The rough did have a few bare spots. I never made it into the sand, but two of my playing partners did and they did not seem to complain about their quality. I really enjoyed this course. However, the only knock on it was the pace of play. Took us little under 5 1/2 hours to play, with us waiting on many tee boxes. However, I think the slow play has more to do with the one group that was in front of us than the course management.

Played El Prado over the weekend, after a couple of days of rain. The staff was friendly and helpful. Good food, and highly suggest the breakfast burrito. The greens were punched, but they discounted the greens fees so it was still a good value. Overall the course layout and design is fun and challenging enough without being difficult. As the slope will indicate, the course plays pretty easy and is pretty straight forward. This was my first time playing here and I didn't feel at a disadvantage not knowing specific yardages to bunkers off the tee or anything. The fairways were a little thick, and as I previously mentioned it was after a few days of rain so everything was a little more thick and lush. The overhanging wires are not ideal, but there were only a few holes where they come into play. Overall a good value, and at a discount due to aeration.
