Started round at 2:20 today - finished at 6:00 - very nice POP. Greens had been punched about 10 days ago - not very sandy but punch marks still pretty predominant. Course in pretty much the usual shape although most bunkers had good amount of sand allowing for normal type of bunker shots. Recent rains appeared to help fairways a bit in terms of grass covering and there were even some patches of high rough in certain locations on the course where drainage collects. As always staff was friendly and exercised Covid practices at the clubhouse and starter areas.

After playing Butterfield Stage last week, decided to return and play Chino Creek. Not a great deal of difference in condition between the two courses, but I think the greens on Chino Creek rolled a little better. (Or maybe I just made more putts?) Also feel the fairways were in better shape. I am impressed by the bunkers. Nice amount of well maintained sand.

I play these courses with some regularity so I have reasonable expectations. I really believe that if you approach these courses knowing they are "rough around the edges" you can appreciate what you get for your $$.

Staff is always friendly and I rarely experience any issues with getting out or pace of play, at least when you play early that is.

Played Fri Feb 12th at 938. Check in quick, putting and driving range open. POP was slow at 4:34 there was a very slow 4 some in front of the 2 some in front of us. And it was obvious that there were new people playing the course because one group came up to us on the 15 tee box looking for the 18 tee box. Course played well greens rolled nice, this is a no frill track and simple golf which i like and that is what you got. One of our partners was in the bunkers and he said the sand was pretty good. Because of the low cost of the course you can tell it is getting allot of "newbees" because we were seeing groups in front of us all over other fairways, yes not their own LOL and I think the later you play here the more of that you will get.

Played El Prado Chino Creek side today, 12/11 with my dad.

Staff: Starter was friendly and the snack shop is open to go. Fairly easy process to check in and we were on our way.

Range: Range is grass and if you have an earlier tee-time you wont have many divot marks, but get there a little later and the grass will be beaten up by other golfers. Range balls were decent, many of them had some bad scuffs on them, but I am just happy to be outside at this point. There are two practice greens and today the practice green seemed to match the Chino side.

Pace of play: We finished in about 4 hours and 15 minutes which I thought was good. We were never waiting on a group and groups behind us were keeping us going. All and all good pace of play.

Course: Not very difficult, fairly open if you are wild off the tee but long hitters can just use iron off the tee for many of the holes. Its the smart play and you are left with a wedge in most of the time. The fairways were in good shape, there were a few muddy areas and some bare spots but nothing that would make me upset. There are leaves out there right now so beware. Bunkers were OK, some were like hitting off of a mat, others were nice and soft. There is some water on the Chino Creek side, but not much and i dont ever think it crossed my mind when playing today. Greens are almost healed from being punched, you can tell they are a little shaggy in some areas trying to get the grass up enough to be cut just right. The greens were pretty slow for the most part and the back 9 the greens seemed a tad softer.

All and all for $42 bucks with a cart I would recommend playing here. Be aware, most of the time the Butterfield side right now is walking only and there are certain time frames where carts are not available and it is walking only on both courses. Best to check with the course when you make your reservation just to be sure. This gives the workers enough time to clean, charge and disinfect the carts in-between everyone. They were letting you go two to a cart if you'd like, or singles, your choice.

They finished remodeling the bath room and it looks nice, the problem is they only have 1 stall, really with 2 courses and that many golfers.... anyway course was in usual condition, greens not bad always a ball mark to repair, fairways had coverage with a few bare spots, rough was either thick or bare depending on where you were, . I walked and I should have ridden, I haven't walked in a while and I need to get in shape. They have one of those house tents up now for people to eat outside. Glad this course is doing well as between the 2 course it is always a good place to get a tee time.

I haven't played this track for over 5 years, now I remember why! I still has maneuver smell in parts of the course. The conditions are shabby. There are a lot of hard dirt patches, lask watering to keep conditions playable. I'll start with the tee boxes, many are hacked up with un-repaired divots. Some are uneven, for a good stance. Fairways are marginal to terrible. The rough was a bit long, but okay, because that is where the good grass wss(hahaha). Bunkers are un-manucured, with a lot of foot divots. Greens are the best asset. Soft and rolled nice. I don't think I'll be back soon, maybe another 5 years...

Had a 10:50 reservation through teeoff.com at El Prado on Saturday for a threesome, but found out the night before that the Butterfield Stage 18 was not offering carts after 10am. It was around 95 degrees that day so the starter was cool enough to move some stuff around and get us over to the superior Chino Creek 18 but with little time to do any warming up.

I had never played the Chino Creek 18 but had often heard that it was the better of the two, and I'm here to confirm that's the correct view. The front nine is pretty pedestrian at Chino Creek, with the one exception of the very nice par 3 7th hole. But the back nine is a much more interesting and challenging design with lots of water features and layups required because of a 'creek' bisecting many of the latter holes.

We had a very slow group of stoners in front of us that were in no particular hurry and not very good, so that really did a number on the POP. At one point I even think they either took or threw away a ball I hit into the green on the 15th hole after they had cleared it but I drifted my 6i right over towards where they were hidden by the trees. Anyway, POP was lousy but the cart service was great all day and very frequent.

The course did not look particularly lush from the street but it actually played a lot better than it looked. You're not going to mistake it for Riviera anytime soon, but most lies in the fairways were good enough. The rough was a total hodge-podge from sticky and long to thin and dirt. I recommend keeping it straight. Greens were in good shape and running medium-fast with good lines to them and no gimmicks out there, but a few too many ball marks from lazy golfers. I was not in any bunkers all day so no report there but they looked pretty poor.

Overall I was glad to finally play this 18 and it was a nice surprise. I had a devilishly poor back nine after a solid front so I look forward to going back there again and righting that wrong. It's a good option if you're in a pinch but not quite destination golf, but we need it all at this point.

Greens rolled well, but not as quick as normal. Most fairways had good coverage, with some brown/bare areas. The rough was very inconsistent, depending where your ball finished. It could be a bare spot, thin, or really thick.

I'm glad that El Prado has survived. We need these type of courses, basic affordable golf, easy to walk and allow players of varying abilities to play it. Not overly penal, minimal forced carries, wide fairways, etc.

Course was playing long with the humid air and no rollout. Tees were fine. Rough was either US open deep or thin. Made for some lucky or unlucky breaks which I’m fine with.

First time playing Chino Creek. Played Butterfield a few times. Chino is for sure the tougher of the two. I’d say it plays at least 3 shots harder. Some very demanding second shots on the back nine in particular 15 and 18. Im a 1 handicap and shot 75. Could probably break par if I played it again now that I know what clubs id hit off some of the tighter tee shots. If you are in the area it’s one of the best values out there.
