First out on a very mild morning. Not very busy this morning? $21 senior rate on this course is a real bargain. Hats off to Shandin Hills for not inflating their fees, unlike so many other courses. (Are you listening Oak Quarry ! )

I thought the course was much improved from when I last played here several months ago. Excellent coverage in the fairways. Greens were nice, so way too slow for my taste. Also would be nice to roll them ! Bunkers had lots of very wet sand - well manicured.

The staff is super friendly and accommodating. It's great to begin the day when the staff in the pro shop is positive and upbeat. Too often I encounter "non-morning people" when I arrive super early. Enjoyed the walk and beat the heat. Nice 2 1/2 hour stroll on a fun track. Good way to start the week.

Played here Wed am a couple of weeks after aeration. Greens which the last time we played here were surprisingly good have taken a turn for the worse. Bumpy, pock is marked in spots and some greens seem like those infested with nematodes like at Yucaipa. Fairways are as usual scruffy. Bunkers seem to be groomed up and dirt (not sand) in them relatively soft. Doing a lot of work on the tee boxes and some areas of the fairway, so they’re trying it seems. As always, all the staff especially the nice lady in the snack bar are friendly. Despite its flaws, this course is popular and still a decent value due to price and free breakfast/lunch/drink/range balls as part of the deal for $35 weekday,

I've always enjoyed playing Shandin Hills, in part because I tend to be a decent bunker player and it's difficult to get around this course without finding the sand. While most of the bunkers were in poor condition (Flooded and thin ) which is what we have all come to expect since the Covid no rakes permitted policy became the norm. So I was not upset by that because I kind of expected it. However, normally the greens at Shandin Hills are pretty good, but they were the worst I have seen them. Bare spots, irregular surfaces, they really need to be rolled. I understand they will be punching the greens next week, so hopefully that will help?

Fairways were spotty, good good, some needing attention. Same with the tee boxes and rough. Staff was great and since we were out first, no issue with pace of play, walking in about 2 1/2 hours. What's strange is I have played this course many times, always at first light, so conditions should be similar, but I can never remember the freeway being so loud, to the point where it was difficult to hold a conversation with my playing partner from anything more than a few feet away. I can not remember ever having this problem before. I mean you were always aware of the freeway, but it was so loud, it actually was annoying at times ??? Maybe my old age is catching up with me ?

I would give this place several weeks to "heal" before returning. Maybe by then the greens will be back to normal

Played 7/6 at 8:30. Shandin is in good all around shape for summer! Tees are good. Fairways are actually in nice shape, nice to hit any club or trajectory from. Rough is under control, and challenging at times, but consistent everywhere. Traps were all machine groomed today - nice to hit out of! Greens are good...the front nine was med-fast, the back nine was a little faster than the front, just right. Any approaches on greens from farther than 30 yards would require housekeeping( the way it should be)!
Snack bar meal and drink included(with your reciept). No drink cart today. Flags in, cups upside down. Sand bottles on carts. Cheers,

Played blues on Sat 5/9 at noon for $37. Uncle Jimmy and Vic convinced me to come out and play thru the pain(self imposed phys thrpy). The weather was great. The weekend POP was good at about 4.5hrs. The range was open and so was the practice green. The tee boxes were fairing well except on holes 4 & 5, which both had a noticeable crown the size of a garbage can lid. The fairways are doing good, divot strips stay together and fit nicely back into the scars from which they came. The rough is good, not penal, but in shape and at challenging depths. The bunkers, were actually playable and gave enough for many saves that day. The greens are the best I've seen at Shandin in awhile. No problems with approaches, no mushyness, and with consistent speed/break. They seem to be cared for by the golfers too, I think I only repaired two ballmarks that weren't mine(and they were barely visible). Flags were in, and the cups were upside down( I prefer this over other covid pin/hole setups). This was my first round in a month, slowly recovering from a compressed nerve. Took some Tylenol and a steady hydration of cold swing juice, and managed a 103 with 35 putts. I'll be back soon to improve on that. Support your local tracks!

First out walking on a cool Monday morning at 6:08am. (Actually teed off at 5:50) Fairways were winter thin, and were kind of "clumpy". The greens could have been really nice, had they been mowed, but despite rolling fairly well, they were just soooo slow. Bunkers were awful, wet, compacted, and not maintained. It is critical at this course that the bunkers be in good shape because they are just a predominant feature of this course. I was in a bunch of them, and it was a struggle to play from those condition.

I really enjoy walking this course. Nice mix of holes, and other than the freeway noise on a few holes, it can be quite pleasant out there. Not a big fan of all the "back nine" play that I seem to encounter, but it wasn't too bad today. Staff was friendly, on time, and accommodating. $21 is a bargain to play here.

because of senior mens club start as a shotgun on the back nine.
I understand why the last foursome was last!
This was close to a 5 hour round due to the "managing" of groups.
I don't care how much food they offer here (incentive to play), it will
be another year or so before I come back!
Sad that we have lost so many good courses here in the IE and this is
what we are offered to play.
Shandin Hills management...………..GIVE A CRAP......PLEASE!!!

Played Shandin Hills at 9:07am Sunday 1/5, with Uncle Jimmy for a 4 hour round. We delivered and installed a fridge for a family member by 8, and hauled a$$ to Shandin and reward ourselves. We finished before the winds came that afternoon. Nice conditions and nice staff. We followed behind the men's club shotgun start, knowing they would leave the greens in good shape for us; we were not let down. We were informed of fast greens, thank you Zach.

Tees, in good shape for winter, 6 out of 10, for mostly level, mowed and maintained boxes.

Fairways, this is January in IE, So Cal. So, they were decent for their dormancy at this time of year. They would give, no matter the club selection and penetration you need. 6 out of 10.

Rough, the rough here had less overall depth and density than expected. Jimmy found some of the deepest, on the back nine that had his ball sit with only 25% showing. It was easy to find balls in, and hit out of it though. 6 out of 10.

Traps, oh, my Lord...these only contain about 20 percent sand in the 1/4 inch layer that gives. Not fun to have to deal with, and I found myself in about 8 of them today. Shandin Hills...be accountable and do something about the hard pack below the layer that gives! 2 out of 10 rating, only because they are not littered with as many small pebbles as competing courses.

AARG(Areas ARound Greens), within 20 yards, were mostly green with some dormant mix, cut or manicured well enough to not have any need for winter lie relief. 5 out of 10.

Greens, these were mowed really tight, and rolled consistently fast and with noticable lack of break. At least they match the practice green, but you still need discipline. There were a few greens still showing some edge repair, and what I call 'green acne' areas near some fringe. 3 out of 10

I do appreciate being able to play in low 60's temps, no frost delay, and sunglasses in January!

Upon paying for the round, I was told that the green fee included range balls and two meals. How can you beat that.
The staff was very friendly. Tee'd off on time as a single and after reaching the first green I was happy to see that it was flawless, just as the practice green was. In fact, all the greens were in great shape. The tee boxes were lightly overseeded and for the most part flat. The fairways were decent with few bare spots. I ate my free hot dog at the turn and proceeded to finish the round in 4 hours, 15 minutes.
On the back nine, be aware that it isn't the most serene place to play with all the trains going by purposely blowing the horn in your backswing. At least it seems that way. All in all, it was a good day at Shandin Hills.
