Met up with GK marathon traveler Nickesquire to play a GK Cup 19 match at Sierra Lakes GC on a warm, sunny afternoon, 7/20/22. Nick had played another match that morning and was ready ahead of our scheduled 145 pm time, so the shop sent us out an hour early, and surprisingly we had the course almost to ourselves. Never saw the singles ahead of us after #1, and only had the trailers behind us on the last few holes. Course conditions are very good – see earlier reviews by Nick and GKer FirstFlightFX-101. Greens, fairways, rough and tees in very good condition. The bunkers I was in had fluffy sand but down in the bottom were thin and packed with only a thin layer. No on-course services today.

I’ve always had good luck at Sierra Lakes with weather and conditions. Highly recommended.

Rode the Blues (71.1/124/6435) for 36 holes. Started @ 745 a.m., finished @ 4:45 p.m. with about 30 minutes between rounds. POP moved well, minimal waiting in the a.m. playing with Chuck, Dave and Bruce. Played at our own pace in the p.m. playing with David. Overcast, calm and warm made for very nice playing conditions. My first time playing here. Wide tree lined fairways set on rolling hills. Surrounded by upper middle class homes with mountain back drops created a nice visual. Tees lush and very well maintained. Bermuda fairways mostly lush and played firm, allowing for lots of roll. Rough was deep enough to be penal. Sometimes difficult to find you ball unless you were close to it. Sand traps the weak link, mediocre. Too thin in the bottom of the traps. Lukewarm endorsement is that they usually played better than they looked. Large Greens rolled well @ medium speed. Receptive to holding irons, numerous irons/pitches stopped right beside their ball marks. Basic carts, no GPS. No on course services. Friendly pro shop and starter. Adequate range on mats. Course is generally lush and very green, firm fairways and receptive greens. Highly recommended for the immediate area.

Played the blues(72/71.0/123) today with Nickesquire, Dave of Chino and Bruce of Upland. We had clear skies and no wind. The range has raised the grass strip, and the mats strip is still at original elevation...well, the driver and 3W off the mats will impact the raised strip just 4-5 feet in front of you! I don't get it.
The tees have good coverage, aren't chewed and are level.
The fairways are healthy with good coverage and roll.
The rough is healthy and a factor for hitting from. The farther you are from the greens and fairways the deeper it is mowed.
The traps are way more dense and less groomed in fairways, than near greens.
The greens were holding most shots, rolled medium speeds, and were semi-soft underfoot.
Sierra Lakes is in good shape and I would return.

Played Tues. 7-5 with a 6:53 tee time. I was a little disappointed to find out that they were charging holiday rates at $89 which I believe is way too much for this course but its my fault for not checking the rate. Played alone and got out about 10 minutes early and finished in 2 hrs and 45 minutes never seeing anyone ahead until I got to 18.
The tee boxes showed evidence of being recently punched but that did not effect being able to find a spot to tee it up. The bermuda fairways are very nice right now with great coverage and hardly any dry areas.Good roll out and a great cushion to hit from. The rough is only 1-2 inches and just a little sticky to get out of. Bunkers have good amounts of sand but the two I was in were damp and a bit heavy. Im sure later in the day when they dry out they would be better.
The greens were running at a medium speed and were a bit soft but almost free of ball marks.
I always enjoy this track but I usually get the old farts rate at $54 which I fell is about right for this course on weekdays.

My first time here, and maybe my last. The course is in pretty good shape, nice layout. Greens were mostly very good, fairways decent coverage, traps good, tee boxes a little uneven. So what's the issue? More than 6 hours to play on a Saturday. We were literally on one par 5 with 6 groups on the hole. One on the green, one in the fairway, one waiting to tee off and three others just sitting and waiting. No Marshalls, no way to move people along. We called the pro shop from that hole to see what was going on and were told "We are really busy". Stopped in the pro shop at the turn (after 3:10 front) and they really didn't have an answer or seem to care much. Maybe it's not like this all the time but I don't think I am going back to find out, especially for $90 plus/round.

It has been at least 10 years since I played Sierra. I forgot how windy it can get in Fontana.
Par 3 sixth hole straight into the wind took 30 yards of extra club. Enjoyable day but challenging. Played Wednesday teeing off at 8:25 and finishing in 4:20. Check-in went smooth and the starter was getting groups out on time. The greens were mostly smooth with medium+ speed and held shots. The fairways had excellent coverage overall with decent rollout on tee shots. There were a few thin spots but playable. The rough for the most part had good coverage that was long enough to affect shots but not overly penal. The bunkers were well groomed. I was in two greenside bunkers. One with good sand the other I was in the bottom with very little sand. Playing partners had no problems with lack of sand. The tee boxes were reasonably level with good coverage. Always enjoy playing Sierra Lakes. Moderate difficulty, minus the winds, with a good variety of long and short holes with some rolling terrain. The staff was friendly.

Sierra Lakes has always been one of my favorite courses to play. The conditions are great!
